    I have my Google Voice number set up as an alternate number. When I don't get the code via SMS, I tell it I'm having problems receiving the code and it lets me select my alternate number. Then I go to my computer and use my GV chrome extension to get the code. Usually I'm at or near my computer when I'm flashing a ROM anyway, so it works well for me.

    Yeah, but your towers are broken I'm about 2.2 miles from my nearest tower and have good LTE signal. Good 3G signal as well. My only problem is that on an N5 it holds onto LTE signal when I'm downstairs and I miss some calls that way =-/

    A Google engineer said that the data up/down icons in the status bar drain the battery and increase CPU load, so I don't see why the spinning Spark icon wouldn't do the same.

    Agreed. Android Central generally has great reporting, but they don't know much about wireless engineering. Sprint isn't doing themselves any favors by showing the Spark icon for every LTE connection. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
