Really? You are a first round market, just too big to launch right away. Heck Chicago might be the largest amount of towers to deploy in any market in the country. Jeeesh. Many people on this site wont see LTE from Sprint till the end of 2013 into 2014. Personally, I think the Chicago market is getting Sprint's full attention right now. It's also obvious that if Sprint announced a launch of Chicago right now there would be a gigantic backlash of everyone actually in Chicago. All the other networks were able to add LTE to sporadic sites within the markets to launch, where as Samsung chose (had?) to upgrade every tower in each outer sector before moving closer to the city. Otherwise, back to earlier points, might as well just turn the towers on, not tell anyone, and let those who pick it up feel like they are on the inside of an awesome secret.

No way Chicago gets announced live LTE until you can get LTE in the Loop. Looks like October to me, but what do I know.

to question #2. Houston got 7 new sites as can be seen in the donor section maps. I think Robert comes back through and updates the percentage complete when he gets extra time to do so, I think he's still on vacation as well.

@DetroitFlyer, you seem disconnected with the article contents. What's this got to do with Wimax? Detroit? This site seems to have plenty of information available to a Sprint customer living in Detroit, it's made clear when they think Detroit will get LTE / 3g enhancements (not yet, but beginning later in the fall through next year) http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-301-east-michigan-network-visionlte-deployment-schedule-update/ There have been articles and forum posts up the wazoo that tell exactly how Sprint will be deploying LTE and 3g enhancements from backhaul to radio units, etc. and the performance to expect. I would think that information would be pretty valuable to a Sprint customer living in Detroit. Honestly, you could make an informed decision right now about whether it's worth waiting for Sprint Network Vision, instead of complaining on Sprint "fanboy" sites.

This article will probably get 100 comments! I bought my OG EVO day one because it came with that Snapdragon and not that 525mhz piece of junk. I knew I wouldn't turn the Wimax on. More on topic, you probably wont get sympathy if you are in a launch market. Most of us are like, "You get to drive a couple blocks to test out this new toy, awesome! You should go test it and tell us how fast it goes, and don't forget to take pictures of the tower!" Sprint is not leaving these markets with 20-40% coverage. As Robert has stated many of these markets get 6-12 towers completed every week with the pace increasing. Tomorrow morning you could wake up with 4 bars of LTE, and deep down you know it, especially if you've read the articles. Other than the haters coming out of the woodwork, I find this network renovation amazing on a grand scale. Sprint should really close comments on their Facebook page though

I find it somewhat amazing that this is the article that gets all the attention, I guess being first to report what can be confirmed means a lot. As others have said, maybe they'll start trusting your info when the cities start coming online in the order and time frame that you predicted months in advance. Nice job S4GRU! You've got the best articles and the most knowledgeable community about this network, and today proves it once again.

different spectrum for CDMA 1xA and EVDO. Sprint still has been using in most (all?) areas the G block of PCS (from FCC compensation to Nextel) to deploy LTE 5x5 while using their older more established PCS spectrum for 1xA and EVDO

That's nice, but it would be pretty sweet if there were no Iphone users on 800. They already crippled the legacy network. I think the benefits for the end user definitely outweigh the costs. Cell phone radios are some of the cheapest parts of the phone anyway. It's not about the most antennas. It's about coverage where you need it like 800 can deliver. I don't really have any reason to upgrade phones every 2 years and Sprint knows exactly what they are going to do wit that spectrum. Might as well future proof them as much as possible.

No it's not. Any tower completed in the Kansas market with LTE is discoverable now, whereas before it was blocked. Most all of them just happen to be in Kansas City at the moment.

My dream announcement - "From here on out we will be putting LTE 800 and 2600 in every phone we make, especially those 5 Nexus phones you keep hearing about for the fall. Apple, however, will not be supporting LTE 800 until the Iphone 6".

Is 94 all the way to the dells upgraded with Mn? I thought the south wisco market was further up i94? They must want seemless handoffs and good coverage for interstate travelers. I'm cool with that. Currently dropped calls and crappy data riddle that freeway.

Thank for you very much for this update! I did not expect them to start mobilizing as early as August. This is great news! Should be a fun year up there. I can't wait to go scope out completed sites. Hopefully those subcontractors don't get too cold this winter. Seems like a dangerous time to deploy NV.

I think the fiber back haul is generally pretty awesome in MN as well. Great speeds up in Maple Grove consistently. My only problems are the holes in coverage.

I really like T-Mobile's spectrum position, especially compared to last week! And AJ beat me to it on their spectrum shuffle. It's not only about the Iphone, but should also make many more gsm world phones compatible and cheaper for T-Mobile to get.

They should remove that giant disco ball. Makes the whole skyline look tacky. Another awesome update!

The article explained it very clearly. Sprint will be 40 percent complete for lte at launch in Houston. Every week they will complete more towers after the initial launch. Lte will eventually cover the entire 3g network with better signal. 3g will also speed up with nv Sprint will be 100 percent in this cityearly 2013 but coverage should be fantastic before that unless you are in a really unlucky location. If att works for you go to them. We are not Sprint reps

Forgot to mention, but as stated in other places. AT&T is probably pushing a little bit to find new spectrum more than anyone else right now.

I would say that this increases T-Mobile's position a ton and Verizon's already strong position. Sprint, as we've been discussing all over the site is sitting pretty well for their current customer demand and not really demanding spectrum from the same bands as these other companies. They share PCS with a lot of other companies, but their position is strong and if they can gain more, then great! I look for Sprint to hold steady with their spectrum + Clearwire for the foreseeable future, unless someone like Dish makes them an offer they can't refuse. I think it's a pretty huge investment in infrastructure and compatibility to add a new spectrum band, and Sprint already has to add 800 and 2600(Clearwire) as quickly as they can.
