  1. You are in for a treat! B41 and Bánh mì Been to Pinos Pizza yet? Probably nothing like Pizza you get in NY but for around here it's pretty solid, it's my go to spot at Cleveland Circle.
  2. Prudential Center is back bay. Downtown is around Post Office Square (that area is the financial district). Back Bay is much nicer Have you been to the super 88 food court at Packard's Corner? Good Band 41 there. Good food too! I eat at Pho Viets often - at $3.75 a sandwich, it's hard not to.
  3. Competition is a wonderful thing. AT&T must be concerned about churning subs. What is AT&T's next step for additional capacity? WCS?
  4. It's just amazing how far Sprint's backbone has fallen in the rankings. They should have sold in 2008 when Level3 was much smaller. Now, not sure why Level3 would need/want it. Maybe another competitor.
  5. In other news, my SB6183 from Amazon shipped today. Woohoo!!! Amazon.com: Your package with ARRIS / Motorola SurfBoard SB... has been shipped. Expected delivery: Tuesday, 23-Sep by 08:00 PM.
  6. Great point on different modernization efforts. I love the fact that Sprint basically forced T-Mobile's hand into upgrading rural areas and in many ways, T-Mobile has forced Sprint to refocus on deploying B41 in urban areas. In terms of CAPEX, when we look at the two (not adjusting for subs, clearwire, etc) we see that both have invested roughly the same in their network. Sprint 2010-2014 21,895 T-Mobile 2010-214 19,770 As far as future capital spending, both are expected to continue to invest heavily. While sprint has already spent a lot of money, they are also much more leveraged (net debt/ebitda=468.5% vs. 311.3% for T-Mobile) . While we can discuss the advantages/disadvantages to each business strategy, that's a different topic. You mention that, for example, T-Mobile doesn't have low band spectrum yet. You can toss in T-Mobile acquiring a nice chunk of 600MHz for a few billion and still have less debt than sprint. They are different companies with different purposes with different strategies and business plans.
  7. Agree with the statement but disagree that docsis 3.1 modems will be in the retail channel at any point next year. I hope they are, cause I'll definitely want one!!! (but given the history of cable modem launches, I can't see that happening, hope I am wrong)
  8. While I see the logic you are applying to come to this conclusion, the facts say otherwise. it's rational to see it another way when you just look at their financials. The facts are, T-Mobile's EBITDA margin is pretty darn healthy. With all of this "live for today", T-Mobile has reduced margins by about 4% to add significant business to company. The 4% drop in profit resulted in T-Mobile bringing in an additional 3.469 billion dollars. TMUS postpaid churn has only gone down over the past 3 years (now at about 1.5%). Total wireless gross margins have not really changed (around 48%). While originally, your thesis sounded good (I was on board with the thesis, I couldn't imagine how T-Mobile could not have higher churn) the numbers just aren't aligning with your narrative. It's not good or bad, just what you are saying vs. how the company is performing aren't the same thing.
  9. Well, in the case of TWC, they are definitely going with 16 channels in new maxx service areas. A friend was recently received the upgrade to MAXX and went from 8 channels to 16. Yeah, OFDM is going to be great, but you need to wait until TWC upgrades the CMTS to support the wider channels. It will be great when they do, but again, it's like people that were saying "oh wait for DOCSIS 3.0, it's about to come out" and that still took years. I guess a lot has to do with where you are at in your "modem upgrade cycle". I am on a old 4 channel docsis 3.0 modem and skipped the 8 channel modem. I'll do the 16 channel 3.0 and probably get the second gen 3.1 modem when my local CMTS is fully upgraded to support it. There are some really really good deals on cheaper 8 channel highly rated cable modems that you can get nowadays, so maybe a 8x channel for ~50 bucks while waiting for a 3.1 might not be a bad way to go.
  10. Right, like DOCSIS 3.0 16x8 modems that came out last year. Docsis 3.1 24x modems will probably be out in 2016.
  11. I've noticed the same thing. It is definitely a backhaul issue. My local B41 site that is a clearwire wimax convert flies at 70mbit unloaded but magically gets bogged down to less than 10mbit during peak periods. There is no way that my particular area is sucking down that much bandwidth so it is likely that they are daisy chaining with microwave and the backhaul is choking. They need to fix this asap.
  12. You are comparing two completely different phones. Given that the next nexus is widely rumored to be made by Moto, why are you comparing it against teh nexus 5?
  13. Given the crappy review by anandtech and the growing "next nexus" rumors, I guess it makes sense. Why buy this for $500 when you could be the next nexus for much less and better specs/no carrier bloat.
  14. Yeah, I think you can for $129 or so (not sure, go into a TWC office and ask). The SB6183 release is supposed to be any day now. My friend got a engineering sample off eBay back in April and it's a really nice unit. Great speeds, very stable.
  15. He is in a non-maxx area. Extreme in non-upgraded areas really is 30/5. As soon as his area gets MAXX it will be 200/20 Turbo Customer should be provisioned at 100/10 You can check the dslreports link I posted to the TWC forum that talks about future MAXX upgrades
  16. Oh, you might already have MAXX in your area then Internet customers with the following current speeds will receive new download/upload speeds: Current Mbps Speeds Up to New Mbps Speeds Up to Everyday Low Price Customers 2/1 3/1 Basic Customers 3/1 10/1 Standard Customers 15/1 50/5 Turbo Customers 20/2 100/10 Extreme Customers 30/5 200/20 Ultimate Customers 50/5 300/20
  17. That's because your area hasn't been upgraded to MAXX yet. When TWC upgrades you, you will be upgraded free of charge from 100mbit to 300mbit (like my friend just was). You need the SB6183 to get those 300mbit speeds. Read more here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/twc Getting a 16 channel modem is all about future proofing when you get the free upgrade to MAXX.
  18. Yeah, I would take the extra 8 channels to spread the load. My friend in CA just got upgraded to MAX and he is getting a healthy 250mbit now (up from 70-100mbit before) with his SB6183. Nice modem.
  19. Missed the $180 budget part. The benefit of spending $200 over $180 is pretty significant, though. I couldn't imagine dropping the cash for a cable modem and not getting 16 channel. I guess I would get a used RT-AC66 or something for the remainder.
  20. I would go with: SB6183 (not out yet, but will be out shortly) + T-Mobile cellspot (or RT-AC68) or R7000 OR the Netgear C6300-100NAS I wouldn't get anything but a 16 channel modem at this point, just wait it out until you can get one - especially on TWC where you can get the 300mbit service with 16 downstream channels.
  21. You should check out the latest google voice rates/plans. You can just use hangouts with a google voice number and be 100% voip at no cost with extremely low international rates. The VOIP quality is rather good.
  22. Wild - any reason why you can't preorder more than one phone at a time? Just curious if I am missing something here.
  23. Can anyone figure out how to preorder two iphones under the leased family plan? I am just curious...
  24. Interesting headline - T-Mobile sues Huawei http://seattletimes.com/html/businesstechnology/2024470044_tmobilehuaweibuzzxml.html Amazing...
