It was Rogers in Toronto when I was there about 2 weeks ago.Does anyone know who Sprint's roaming partner/network is in Canada? I'm on a layover here and I want to make sure I select the right one. I'm on Rogers at the moment.
I didn't have to select anything. I received a text from Sprint and it was automatic.

As a less desirable alternative I have been doing it the low-tech way with screengrabs and stitching it in Photoshop for the LA Metro market. Here is an interesting assignment.
We have only a few weeks left. After that, the Clear.com web site almost certainly will go dark. The Google Maps based WiMAX coverage tool will be gone forever.
For historic preservation purposes, do we have any coders who could extract that coverage data in at least reasonably high resolution images? It would not have to be interactive like Google Maps -- though if we could keep the original format, that would be ideal.
Thoughts?

Here's a short, complimentary review of the 6s on Sprint in Denver. I posted here because the notable part of the review was the performance of the network in Denver:

Do any of you in Volusia County have any Sprint service updates?
I'll have some updates at the end of the month if nobody posts before then.

Has anyone observed 2xCA in LA Metro yet? If so which areas?
I've seen a 2nd carrier in Sherman Oaks, but since I don't have a CA device I can't verify CA.

Verizons small cell densification project is beyond this world. So many damn small cells everywhere popping up without warning.
Sent from my Nexus 5
They have been moving quickly here in Los Angeles. Every installation that I've seen involved ripping up the sidewalk for a small underground vault. A vast majority have been on city owned street light poles.

I think he was joking. I don't really know, i never get his sense of humor but he put a winky face...
Understanding the humor here requires a tri-band brain:
1. The ability to recognize pop culture references from the 1860s all the way up to one second ago.
2. Be equally engaged by the sophisticated and the base.
3. Be able to tolerate humor without guard bands.

Just came across B41 EARFCN 41176 in the Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles. I don't have a CA capable device, but that's my first time seeing that carrier instead of the usual 40978.

I demand a recount. I believe these results to be…inockurate.
One word: strategery.

The FCC has characterized this as a "once-in-a-lifetime" auction, but does anyone really believe that? The trend is for more and more content to be delivered over IP (Netflix, Apple TV, HBO Go and other Network apps, etc.) I started in broadcast, so I understand its importance, but at a certain point it seems to me that market conditions are going to allow for a lot more spectrum to be auctioned.
-
Question for anyone who knows more about the FCC auction rules:
Is it possible to lease out the spectrum won in auction, or does it have to be deployed by the actual winner?

"Move Forward" or more accurately "#MoveForward" seems to be the new-ish consistent tagline.
A little birdie told me that we might be hearing that theme more.

MSP airport has solid coverage in Terminal C & F via Boingo and Sprint B41. I was logged in automatically for Boingo.

Open World works as advertised in Toronto. It's nice not having to worry about crazy charges or finding a local sim for a short trip.

Anyone have a link to explain what using b41 for backhaul would look like? I tried searching the forums and generally on the web but couldn't find anything that made sense to me.
"B41 backhaul" is probably not the right terminology. I was attempting to refer to the ability of Sprint to use its massive 2.5 GHz spectrum to deliver backhaul to some of the small cells they would be deploying.
I don't have any links to provide that explain what it would look like, but statements from Sprint have hinted a different and faster method of deployment for NGN. In my mind that opens up the possibility of wireless backhaul.

I think a heavy prioritization of installing a ton of macro cells is more desirable than small cell placement at this point. So Cal has one of the largest metro areas and simply is just a very tough market to cover even the urban areas.
It would be prudent for Sprint to deploy both macro sites and small cells. Small cells may have the advantage of faster deployment, especially if Sprint uses B41 backhaul.

OK, you've caught us. The whole "Sprint is subpar in SoCal" is part of a larger initiative us Californians have organized. Whenever out-of-towners come and visit we crowd the freeways, fake a drought and temporarily tune the Sprint network to seem inferior to wherever you may be from.
It's our effort to say, "thanks for visiting, but please don't move here."
And think about it... it works doesn't it? Who in their right mind would want to move here?
Our coup de grace is "Hollywood" as a tourist attraction. Oh look it's the Hollywood sign, some stars on the sidewalk and an overweight Spider-Man who showers as often as it rains. Those poor German tourists never make the mistake of visiting twice!

Why aren't they pushing for an earlier date?
I'm just as annoyed as everyone else about this, but this is a complex operation. Here are some highlights:
• San Bernardino County is the largest county in the contiguous U.S. at over 20,000 square miles.
• SB County operates 46 sites for its 800 MHz system
• 250 entities use this system
• 18,000 subscriber units
• Baseline schedule for clearing equipment is 50/day. An acceleration plan of up to 80/day is being considered.
• There is a provision for short spacing / waivers for 27 Sprint sites. (There is more to come on this.)
• Cost of the original project in 2008 was $338,398.68. It is now $8,456,358 (est.).

Sprint really isn't even an option for those folks in SoCal compared to the other big 3. Just too many holes without 800. And until that changes there is no way I'd use Sprint if I lived there. The times I've been in Los Angeles and San Diego, I was appalled at how inferior the Sprint network was out there compared to here in the Southeast.
I don't think it's nearly THAT bad. Maybe I've been lucky, but if I had the experience that you're suggesting I would have switched to Verizon a long time ago.
Having said that, Sprint coverage in Atlanta is definitely superior to the coverage in Los Angeles.
-
I can't believe San Bernardino County was able to push this off so long. The resolution took two additional years, and now the implementation is taking another year.
To me it looks like Sprint is just giving in to all their demands anyway. They should have just done that back in 2013.

It really doesn't make a lot of sense. I really hope the NGN densification makes our wait less painful.

FINALLY!
The agreement between San Bernardino County and Sprint (Nextel) is on today's meeting agenda!
2. Approve Amendment No. 6 to Agreement No. 09-56 with Motorola, Inc. to revise the scope of work to include additional services and related equipment for rebanding upgrades in the amount of $6,150,220, plus applicable taxes, with no change to the total contract amount of $95,644,786 for the period of January 27, 2009 through December 31, 2020.
3. Authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute change orders and certifications, upon recommendation by the Chief Information Officer and subject to review and approval by County Counsel, for Agreement No. 08-1221 and No. 09-56, provided that any such change orders and certifications further the purpose of the 800 MHz rebanding project and does not result in additional costs to be incurred by the County or extend the duration of the respective Agreements.
(Presenter: Jennifer Hilber, Chief Information Officer)
INCENTIVES:
$200,000 if the County finishes rebanding "desert frequencies" by June 30, 2016. That drops down to nothing by October 2016.
The "non desert" frequencies need to be cleared by January 2017. The County could get $250k if they clear these frequencies by September 15, 2016.

Thanks! So if I'm reading the website correctly, even if I own outright my current 6+, I'd have to ship it back to them in order to get on this plan? That'd be no bueno....
Not sure... I just happened to look up the cost a minute before I read your post.
