  1. Sorry if this has been asked before but is the signal strength a tower transmits constant?  I get that internet speeds will fluctuation when there is less or more traffic but what i never understood is the fluctuation of signal strength one receives on their phones.  is there a correlation with the two?

There is a related conversation happening here:

  2. One thing that is not clear to me in this filing, has SB County started rebanding or not? If they waited to even start until after agreement on cost negotiation, it could be another 6-9 months.

    That's the million dollar question.

I just searched through the Board of Supervisors public records and they haven't brought this up at a meeting yet.

  3. Are you sure that's T-mobile on the before image?

I'm not sure. The "before" image is from Google.

Here's why I thought it might be TMO:

    1. Looks like other TMO sites.

    2. One equipment shed still says "Cingular".

    3. I've never seen an AT&T macro site with only 2 panels per sector in LA.

Of course I've been very wrong before!

Not sure if this before/after of a site that used to have similar equipment narrows down the possibilities.  Note that the mystery carrier has been removed.  (My labeling might be grossly incorrect, apologies in advance.)

  5. Did this plan change as far as Band 26 goes? Its been 10 weeks shy of a year since this post and I haven't seen any 800 lte yet..... anywhere, actually.

We're all waiting on San Bernardino County to finish rebanding. There may be an update in mid to late June.

Maybe someone else has better intel.

    Nothing like a good mystery!

There's a tower near me with the same panels and configuration.  I'm going to check it out this weekend.

The tower near me doesn't match up well with the coverage shown on Towerstream's coverage map.  It's definitely not the Big 4 and not Metro PCS and Time Warner's Wi-Fi system is street level.

  7. Anyone know if Metro RF Services does subcontract work for Sprint?   I'm trying to sort through a bunch of permit applications that specify the work being done as installing "3 new panel antennas, 3 RRUs and associated cabling."  It seems like that could either go for new 8T8R equipment for Sprint or new 700 MHz panels for TMO.  Unfortunately the permit applications don't specify panel size and by strange coincidence all of the sites I found today have both Sprint and TMO located at the same site.

  8. Have you guys tried to switch the band priorities on your phone. Maybe for the time being, switch B41 priority to be lower than B25 until things get smoothed out.

My service is still completely useable for what I need, so I haven't touched my settings.

I hope all of this is an indicator of some 8T8R upgrades.

  9. How long has it been going on there?

    About 2 weeks.

I've driven by the Clear site I used to connect to and it's still active.

My phone constantly ping pongs between 3G,B25 and occasionally B41 without moving.

Fortunately I'm not having those issues at home.

  10.

Unfortunately, it's creating a poor data connection, as I'm now bouncing between this new 8T8R signal, the Clearwire B41 signal, B25 and 3G. And the 8T8R site is not too fast, only about 1.5 mbps DL. Hopefully this will change shortly as they optimize it and have it play nicely with the Clearwire sites. Up until today, downtown LA (primarily from Bunker Hill, down through the financial district, and towards LA Live/Staples) B41 has been served by all Clearwire sites.

I'm having the same exact issue in Burbank.
