Question: since the tower by my house is on an AT&T building, does that mean that it might get approval for both LTE and 3G at the same time? Or at least less time in between?
-
Looks like they haven't started. Hopefully you will see progress this month. Can you get inside the building? This site most likely have the cabinet on the roof.
The building is an AT&T building, so probably not. I'll drive by occasionally though.
-
Now I know why we aren't discovering 800 lte coverage.
I wish you all would set the priority to 26, 41, 25. So you see SMR first then BRS then PCS.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
I dunno, I'd prefer that my devices keep off 800 unless they absolutely need to since there's way more spectrum in the higher bands.

I'm currently in Sunnyville and SignalCheckPro showed this.
The voice part means that I'm picking up 800MHz, right?
What do my screenshots say about my 4G LTE connection?
Yep. LTE is probably still using 1900 since there are no triband phones yet.

Drive by and check out the site. See if there has been any work done. If you see new electrical and conduits next to the existing cabinet they are ready for the new NV cabinets.
Sprint has been planning this since 2011 and many cities already over 90% complete. San Diego has been worked on since 4th quarter 2012.
I had the original EVO and now the new EVO. 4G came slowly but we know it will eventually be covering the entire Sprint 3G footprint. Just give it few more months, San Diego will have more 4G sites up.
Just in the past 2 days 7 LTE sites went live in San Diego... check this out: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/3913-network-vision-site-acceptance-report-updates/?p=184638
That building is the AT&T central office around here. The equipment is most likely inside and would not be accessible or even visible from the street. But I'll definitely see if I see new panels next time I drive by there.

I realized after making the above post that the MiFi was probably preferring band 25 over 41, so it's possible 2600 is on more towers than I found through my very brief visit to OC/LA. I'll have to get my MSL sometime and see if I can change the preference order.

Here's another one in Mira Mesa. http://www.sandiego.gov/planning/community/profiles/miramesa/pdf/agenda/2013/13junagendamm.pdf
That's one's near my house (and what my phone seems to lock onto 75% of the time). I'm guessing the permits got approved since that was back in June.

So I can pick up band 41 LTE in Orange County with my MiFi 500. Euclid and W. Broadway in Anaheim. I didn't detect any in Fountain Valley by the Fry's, which is definitely in the Clear WiMAX coverage area. They may have concentrated more on LA and north OC for their initial rollout.

Seems like AT&T, Cox and Time Warner are busy getting the back-haul up and running. Spoke to a Cox Engineer that does survey for many of the sites for fiber, many of the delay are getting permits from City of San Diego to dig up the streets when needed.
It's weird to me that they still have to dig up the street. I've seen AT&T trucks around with manhole covers off and workers underground. Is that for something else?

Can LTE Broadcast be used for Netflix and other streaming content? Or even Slingplayer? I use both program fairly often
It might be possible for the highly in demand shows on Netflix, but there are way too many shows and movies on there to do it for all of them.
-
Does anyone even pay for Sprint TV content? Sounds like anothermoney pit for Sprint to shut down.
I think they had at least a couple of free channels when I used it a long time ago.

My apologies if this has been discussed already, but as this thread is nearing a thousand posts, I haven't been able to review each and every one of them. Anyway, I was doing a little reading on LTE Broadcast and from this layman's point of view, it seems pretty interesting.

Two Network Vision vendors, Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent, are working with Qualcomm to develop the technology. Verizon has shown the most interest of any US carrier. However, I think that this technology is now tailor made for Sprint's forthcoming TD-LTE network given their Clearwire purchase. With their tremendous spectrum depth and cell site density, now that they've announced that they're going to put 2.5GHz on all ~39K and beyond, Sprint has a great opportunity to offer differentiating services depending on how the technology develops. It'll be interesting to see if Sprint pursues this and who they might partner with.
I could actually see Sprint having their Sprint TV app use LTE Broadcast.

My phone picked up LTE inside work for a minute or so before dropping back to eHRPD. However, when I walked outside I could consistently pick up LTE! I work off Scranton Rd. in Sorrento Valley.

I for one want to chat more about Sprint's 800MHz rollout.

Check out these upload speeds I am getting this morning on Alessandro Blvd in Moreno Valley. All of these are on 3G except the bottom one is 4G off of Perris and Alessandro. It looks like they are starting to turn 4G on on this side of Moreno Valley now.
Something's not right. Sprint's LTE can't do 70+mbps upload.

I keep forgetting to, but maybe a trip to LA is in order this weekend.

I've seen a few people talk about getting the MSL code for the MiFi 500 (to be able to change LTE options, but I can't figure out how to retrieve this code. Can somebody please point me in the correct direction?
You'll have to call Sprint to get the MSL.

This is a single data point only but I have a pic of 800 mHz RRUs on a site in Poway. They are not hooked up or weren't about ten months ago when I took the picture.
Huh. I wonder if I should do some driving up there.
-
Not sure what you're getting at? 800 is already installed, they're just waiting to activate. Probably waiting on crews to be available to do it, or perhaps carrier cards for the base stations.
Except in the IBEZ. There's no 800 equipment at all at most of those.
-
I'm trying to activate mine right now over the phone. Looks like they won't let me activate it month-to-month either (my primary phone is on my mom/dad's plan and I'm trying to create my own account for the hotspot).
EDIT: they won't let me activate it over the phone unless I buy another phone or hotspot. Sprint store it is.
EDIT 2: the person on the phone is claiming it's not a Sprint device.
EDIT 3: finally got it activated at the Sprint store. That was more hassle than I thought.

Come on now. There is CDMA 1900 and 850 service in Canada and Mexico as well.
If you were right, U+ using CDMA 1800 as a lone user would throw a dagger into your previous argument. How does U+ get devices for its network if its such a small fry with a proprietary CDMA spectrum?
At least for Canada, it's only there for legacy devices. The Canadian carriers have all switched to UMTS.

My current Mifi 4082 has an RSSI of -82 dbm in its current location (attached to the wall where the signal is best.) When I place my phone next to it, in the same spot, it has an RSSI of -109 dbm. (These are EVDO). I can never figure out it! Hotspots must have way better antennas.
There's probably less attenuation from there being no hands on the device, too.

I turned mine on while charging. Looks like I can't activate from the device and will have to call Sprint.

That's what I figured. It'd be nice if it went faster though.
