  1. Drive by and check out the site.  See if there has been any work done.  If you see new electrical and conduits next to the existing cabinet they are ready for the new NV cabinets.

Sprint has been planning this since 2011 and many cities already over 90% complete.  San Diego has been worked on since 4th quarter 2012.

I had the original EVO and now the new EVO.  4G came slowly but we know it will eventually be covering the entire Sprint 3G footprint.  Just give it few more months, San Diego will have more 4G sites up.

Just in the past 2 days 7 LTE sites went live in San Diego... check this out:   http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/3913-network-vision-site-acceptance-report-updates/?p=184638

That building is the AT&T central office around here. The equipment is most likely inside and would not be accessible or even visible from the street. But I'll definitely see if I see new panels next time I drive by there.

  2. So I can pick up band 41 LTE in Orange County with my MiFi 500.  :tu: Euclid and W. Broadway in Anaheim. I didn't detect any in Fountain Valley by the Fry's, which is definitely in the Clear WiMAX coverage area. They may have concentrated more on LA and north OC for their initial rollout.

  3. Seems like AT&T, Cox and Time Warner are busy getting the back-haul up and running.  Spoke to a Cox Engineer that does survey for many of the sites for fiber, many of the delay are getting permits from City of San Diego to dig up the streets when needed.

It's weird to me that they still have to dig up the street. I've seen AT&T trucks around with manhole covers off and workers underground. Is that for something else?

  4. My apologies if this has been discussed already, but as this thread is nearing a thousand posts, I haven't been able to review each and every one of them. Anyway, I was doing a little reading on LTE Broadcast and from this layman's point of view, it seems pretty interesting.

Two Network Vision vendors, Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent, are working with Qualcomm to develop the technology. Verizon has shown the most interest of any US carrier. However, I think that this technology is now tailor made for Sprint's forthcoming TD-LTE network given their Clearwire purchase. With their tremendous spectrum depth and cell site density, now that they've announced that they're going to put 2.5GHz on all ~39K and beyond, Sprint has a great opportunity to offer differentiating services depending on how the technology develops. It'll be interesting to see if Sprint pursues this and who they might partner with.

I could actually see Sprint having their Sprint TV app use LTE Broadcast.

  5. I'm trying to activate mine right now over the phone. Looks like they won't let me activate it month-to-month either (my primary phone is on my mom/dad's plan and I'm trying to create my own account for the hotspot).

EDIT: they won't let me activate it over the phone unless I buy another phone or hotspot. Sprint store it is. :(

EDIT 2: the person on the phone is claiming it's not a Sprint device.

EDIT 3: finally got it activated at the Sprint store. That was more hassle than I thought.

  6. Come on now. There is CDMA 1900 and 850 service in Canada and Mexico as well.

If you were right, U+ using CDMA 1800 as a lone user would throw a dagger into your previous argument. How does U+ get devices for its network if its such a small fry with a proprietary CDMA spectrum?

At least for Canada, it's only there for legacy devices. The Canadian carriers have all switched to UMTS.

  7. My current Mifi 4082 has an RSSI of -82 dbm in its current location (attached to the wall where the signal is best.)  When I place my phone next to it, in the same spot, it has an RSSI of -109 dbm.  (These are EVDO).  I can never figure out it!  Hotspots must have way better antennas.

There's probably less attenuation from there being no hands on the device, too.
