  1. Sprint has gotten a lot better here. Before, I wouldn't be able to stream Pandora at all while driving. I would spend way more time on Wi-Fi than 3G because the latter was pretty much unusable.

Today? I was able to stream Pandora pretty much all the way from Ramona to Claremont Mesa Blvd. with no hiccups.  :tu: Now to finish upgrades in Clairemont (especially in the Balboa/Genesee area since it's still bad enough there to have to switch to Wi-Fi for data).

  2. ahhh well i guess time warner does not use IPv6 then. its weird because we are upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0 and i know for a fact that supports v6. perhaps its the DNS server they use? ive never changed it before.

I have TWC and they definitely support IPv6. You'll have to get a router that supports it/turn it on in your router's settings but it is there.

  3. I actually spent significant time getting IPv6 working on my home connection. test-ipv6.com gives me 10/10 and I think I can turn off IPv4 on my laptop and be able to access IPv6 only websites with no issue (currently untested).  :D

Would be nice if Sprint supported it though, but they may be thinking that CGNAT would be perfectly fine for phones.

  4. IBEZ issues should be resolved this year. Only possibly a city here or a county there to hold up some areas in rebanding. Sprint is getting a move on deploying radios for 800 now so all they have to do is fire them up once the spectrum is clear.

:tu: Being able to get LTE inside my house would be great.

  5. Thats why I said anecdotal. Not only have we had some people that have shown up here and complained but I also know people in the Raleigh area that have stated that there service has gotten slower and in every case they do not have a tri band device while I can tell you without a doubt that the Raleigh area has seen a significant improvement. I just wonder if Sprint screwed the pooch on this one.

It's also possible I have really low standards. Sprint was extremely bad here before (to the point where there was no point not having the phone on Wi-Fi the majority of the time), so LTE speed tests dropping from 15mbps to like 3-4 probably wouldn't be a big deal for me as long as latency was still okay.

  6. Just thinking out loud here but I think Sprint made a mistake. Lets look at the ingredients first:

    1. Anecdotal evidence suggests that single or even dual band phones have not seen a significant improvement in service(the barometer being speed).
    2. Sprint has rolled out tri-band capability to its Pre-paid brands(Virgin yes, not sure about Boost)
    3. Sprint is still selling non-triband phones on its website.

Sprint should have re-branded and dumped its non tri-band phones on to prepaid as quickly as possible. By not doing do they have put themselves into the position of selling a phone that in all probability wil not deliver a good expereince for the user. Now Sprint either has to tell them to pound salt or eat the cost of a new phone. Additionally, they have undercut the value of post paid by allowing triband on pre-paid especially with deals like this http://www.virginmobileusa.com/why-choose-us/

My phone has LTE only on B25 and I've seen a massive improvement in service though.

  7. Two years ago I was seriously considering jumping ship because Sprint 3G was so ridiculously slow. Then I found this site and decided to give Sprint another chance by upgrading to the HTC One. In short, I'm glad I did--San Diego has improved massively over the course of the last 1-1.5 years and even when I'm not on LTE, 3G is perfectly usable.

Is there room for improvement? Of course! For one thing, it would be nice for the IBEZ stuff to finally get resolved since my phone falls off of B25 LTE fairly often. But once that does...  :D

  8. Speaking of Spark, I went to a local Sprint store in my area about a week ago to get something checked out. I was approached by a young girl, who was one of the sales people. She tried to talk me into getting rid of my S4 for a Spark S5, get rid of my Everything 450 for a new Easy Pay plan, along with a free tablet if I said yes. But nope. Then she tried talking me down, along with one of her managers saying I can keep my Everything 450, and work some magic. First of all, I don't need a tablet, second Spark isn't officially lit in San Diego yet, and last, I'm satisfied with my flagship S4 for time being.

But anyways, to make a long story short, she showed me the S5 (like I never seen it before), goes through the functions, etc.......... She then says, "You see that spinning star? That's a Spark signal." I'm like oh really. I then said, Spark isn't officially in San Diego as of yet. She then said she was in Encinitas earlier that week passing by the Encinitas Ranch golf course, and seen her star spinning on LTE network, and swore up and down she was on the Spark network.

Hmm, I do have the MiFi 500 and it's set up to prefer B46 first. There's not really anywhere convenient to park that doesn't have the risk of not picking it up though (due to the nature of B46 and all).

  9. Anyone go to Comic-Con 2014?  From today's update, there was a site at the convention center that was updated with 4G.  Wonder if it was usable?

More than usable. Then again I just went today and not any of the other three days. Last year 3G was unusable, so a definite improvement.  :)

  10. Giving it a shot now. I've been having some battery issues lately, possibly around Google Maps since there's high CPU usage while I'm driving (and not using navigation or any other phone features).

  11. Pestered Sprint for....quite some time.  Apparently Spark is the key.  Spark-enabled phones in Spark supported areas should be dual-stack.  Unsure how things like Happy Eyeballs might work.  Sadly, my phone isn't supported, my area isn't listed as having or to be getting Spark in the near-term so I can't test this from a store and the closest city to try and test is a 3 hour drive away.

Anyone here willing to try it?  Easiest test IMO is just go to http://ip6.me and click the 'IPv6 only test' link since depending on how preference for one protocol over another is implemented might affect the test to the main page and end up using IPv4.  If IPv6 isn't working you should get a server not found error (or the like).  If it does work, an IPv6 address.

I'm pretty sure any recent Android phone is dual-stack, but not necessarily on LTE. I was tunneling IPv6 at home for a bit and test-ipv6.com was working on my HTC One (which isn't Spark capable).

  12. Just check out sensorly. San Diego is pretty covered except Clairemont area. Most places get LTE with low signal strength. Lots of fine tuning needs to be done by Sprint RF team.

Do you know if the Sensorly maps update as more data comes in for areas already done? A lot of the mapping was done pretty early on in the LTE deployment here.

  13. Still does not explain why permits that are approved by the city are not moving.  I have been following many of the public notices and the city approves most existing minor modification sites.

It's one thing for a city to issue a permit. It's another when AT&T says "we can't fit you in for six months". Not saying that's what happened in my tower's specific case, but yeah.

  14. There are many permits that has been approved by the city.  Still no progress on many of those approved sites.  Define "hard" sites?

For example, the tower near my house is actually on top of an AT&T building. They need to coordinate with AT&T in order to get access to the site.
