At some point, I should just consider doing the "iPhone Annual Upgrade Program" through Apple

I use to do that but didn’t like the hard credit pulls the financing bank did. Then I got an Apple Credit card. 3% Daily Cash on the purchase and 24 mos 0% payments. Now no 24 mos 0% unless the phone is activated on one of the Big Three which means no SIM/eSIM Free phones. So this year I’ll just use Discover which has 5% cash back through September on purchase made via Online Wallets eg. Apple Pay, Google Play, Samsung Pay etc..

With the way so many people keep flaunting the work around in all the huge public forums and discussion platforms over and over (especially reddit), i wouldnt expect it to. Employees from all levels lurk in these spots, its 2023 after all.

Agreed. I'm betting with T-Mobile's less than stellar reputation with data breeches it might not send the best message for them to prohibit Electronic Wallets. The "goodwill" the 3% AppleCard perk offers might offset the CC fee? Time will tell.

The AutoPay discount situation on T-Mobile isn't as bad as I thought it was, but it's still a bit ridiculous. I have my checking account registered as a primary payment method and I have my credit card entered as a secondary payment method.

T-Mobile actually sends you a text a couple days before the payment date as a reminder that you have an upcoming AutoPay payment scheduled. I then went into the App and manually made a payment using my saved credit card information. Could be worse, but it's still annoying to have to do this monthly.

They also accept the major electronic wallets. I pay a few days early using my AppleCard with ApplePay and still get the 3% Daily Cash and the $5 Autopay discount on all my 8 lines. Hopefully this continues going forward.🤞

  4. Numerous antennas mostly atop utility poles have started popping up every few blocks along major roads here in North suburban Chicago. I asked one of the install crews who they were for and was told Verizon. Until only recently they didn’t show up on Cellmapper and now they show as Verizon DAS locations.
Is this how small cells are identified or are they something else?

ATT has a similar looking site but it shows in Cellmapper as a normal cell site.

    Any insight appreciated.

I can think of nothing I'd rather do less than trust T-Mobile with a debit card number, even if it's never actually used.  Their reputation for breaches is terrible and I don't want anything tied to my checking account that much at risk.

Agreed. I opened a new checking account dedicated just to autopay’s . I fund it monthly only with the amount necessary. At least that way my exposure in case/when something happens is minimal. Fwiw other services are requiring autopay debit card or ACH to get the best price. Verizon is one.

It sounds like the T-Mobile Home Internet is forcing them to change the TD down up ratio to favor more download speed. Yet another reason for n25. Wonder if some of these advanced features will require a s23?

Sometimes lately I have noticed my n41 SA gets stuck (no download) despite good signal. If I switch to wi-fi and the back a few minutes later it is fine again. Any one else noticing this?

I’ve tried 3 of the last 4 T-mobile home internet devices over the past few years. Two common but separate problems for me were the router overheating and the routers would periodically stop passing traffic over Ethernet. I usually just rebooted the router and that would fix the Ethernet issue until the next time it would happen. I installed a cooling fan and that improved but did not totally fix the overheating issue. I eventually went to Verizon as I was lucky enough to be in an area served by C-Band. Yes, it’s twice the price as I have no Vzn Cellular plan but neither of the above issues either.

I took T-Mobile up on their $25/month home internet deal.  Just connected yesterday and have been using it all morning.  I get about 550 down, 70 up with 19 mS latency.  Full time WFH with a virtual desktop and Zoom calls all day.  I'll use it for the next couple weeks.  Can't beat this deal with no contract.  Would love to send Spectrum packing with their $80 basic internet service.

I've tried it 3 times with 3 different model gateways. All three had the same issues so I gave up. I tried Verizon's 5G(C Band) and although it costs $50 it's been rock solid and supports IP Passthrough. Some complain that to get even the $50 price you need to use a Vz CC, Direct Debit or any Debit Card. That wasn't an issue for me. There is a $60 plan but the benefits were nothing of value to me.

That said I have some friends who are tech challenged and they had T-Mobile Home Internet up and running in 10 minutes and are delighted.

My biggest issues with T-Mo were gateway overheating and my cloud backups would fail twice a week with HTTP errors. Neither are experienced on the Vz device. Alas the speeds are somewhat less than T-Mo but ping times are sub 20ms.

  8. In the past occasionally it was necessary to upgrade the physical SIM for various reasons. The most recent one was that I remember is the T-Mobile request to update to an R15 SIM. How is this type of update handled in an eSIM environment? Does the carrier push the update out somehow? Does the phone manufacturer do it with a new firmware update? Curious. Any insight appreciated.

  9. I'm curious about something and figured someone on the forum would know the answer.

Case in point ... 6 years ago my wife and I both got CPAP machines. Both "phone home" daily via a cellular connection for compliance and in the Settings it showed ATT 4G as the provider when we first got them. Recently I noticed my machine had more "bars" on the signal strength indicator than previously and my wife's did not change so I looked at the Cellular settings for both machines. My wife's still said ATT 4G but mine now says T-Mobile 4G. How can this change? I don't see any slot for a SIM card. The devices do have empty SD card slots and another slot about the size of an SD card also empty but the contacts don't look like a SD card.

Like I said, I'm curious how a cellular provider can be changed without physical access to the device. Being the devices are 6 years old could eSim magic be the secret?

    TIA
