You dont say! I was just on the phone with customer support for 40 minutes.... In January, we purchased a 2-year upgrade iPhone for $299. Credit card gets charged ~$350 after taxes. Great! Transaction finished! So now we get bill showing a $299 equipment charge. OH NO YOU DIDNT. Why are we being charged twice? Well, turns out the $350 credit card charge, which was for the new phone and taxes was actually charged against the bill before autopay could come in. It in turn cancelled autopay and resulted in a negative balance. Then the full month + the iphone showed up on the new bill. The total adds up, but WTF are you doing Sprint accounting!

Im still amused at how Sprint decided to end the subsidies and move people to leases which in turn freed people from staying with Sprint. If Im not stuck on a 2-year contract with a hefty ETF, why WOULDNT I jump to the best available offer on a competitor? The entire point of contracts and ETFs was to tie people in. From a business perspective, removing the 2-year contract makes no sense.

2 year subsidy phone upgrades early warning info

I guess the issue is that I was operating based on real world situations - how mobiles were/are sold in Europe and Latin America, and you were operating out of an impossible desire. As for installments, if the only option is to pay $800 or to pay $800/24 then the most financially prudent option is ALWAYS the installment. Its not about being able to afford something or not, it's about basic money management strategies. -

Thats a very good point. Sprint has pushed non-contract options so heavily that many retail employees would lie to customers about having to switch to a lease or easy pay. I know last year I went to Best Buy to avoid the Sprint employees and even there he insisted on spending 10 minutes "educating" me on the benefits of dropping ED1500 and leasing. Bitch, I have a spreadhseet. Honestly, the experience was very uncomfortable and if I had more time I would have simply ended the sale and done the transaction online (I was visiting my dad for a weekend and helping him out). That fact that so many people pushed back is surprising. The theory was that unbundling would push prices down because people would not want to spend $800, and would look at $400 alternatives. I pointed out to you two years ago that bunding never existed in Europe, and prices never decreased. I was right. Leasing/easy-pay hid the true price as well, especially with the carriers falsely claiming that they were offering cheaper plan prices. The end result is that phones still cost $800, but prices have gone up for plans. Also, the market for non-flagship phones has essentially collapsed. HTC? Sharp? Sony? Nokia? No one is biting. It is Apple or Samsung or bust, with Google as a side attraction. -

My sister got a 2 year upgrade around the 17th. It was a pain because we were planning on using Costco and it was suddenly ended. When our contracts end I will take a long hard look at what Verizon, Tmobile and AT&T are providing. I have been a Sprint customer for around 7 years now. If they are no longer a good value for me and my family, we will move, period. ED1500 + 2 year contracts were a good value. I do not think the current pricing plans are. No hard feelings Sprint, but business is business. But who knows, maybe things will be different. After all, I will be conducting a simple cost benefit assessment between the four companies. Maybe Sprint will still be the best value. -
Sprint "Open World" plan (replaces International Value Roaming)
jamesinclair replied to lilotimz's topic in General Topics
Hm, so Im looking to switch from the global roaming to Open World as I am going on a cruise next week and want to take advantage of the promotion... When I go here https://www.sprint.com/landings/openworld/index.html?INTNAV=LP:GlobalRoaming:LearnMore The list of countries does NOT mention the islands. But they ARE shaded in on the map Edit: I see on the services add-on menu it is a separate line item that has to be added! -

Yup, unless you own a yacht, youre going to arrive on the dutch side, so thats what people think of when they see St Martin. -

Thanks for the warning. Are Telcell or Chippie also GSM? And shame on Sprint for not making that clear on their website -

Im going on a cruise in January so this is great. Anyone have any experience with St Martin? The island is divided into two countries, St Martin and Sint Maarten. Does anyone know if the Sprint service includes the Dutch side or is limited to the French side? -
You should call up Sprint and Verizon and let them know advertising on TV is a huge waste of money because it does not allow for an immediate transaction and nobody changes providers anyway. Also, WTF does Charmin keep advertising with those damn bears? Its toilet paper. We have no choice, we have to buy it.
