  1. Interesting comment on Google Fiber: STBs will be $80...one time...no monthly fees! http://t.co/FPGEX5jr via @GigaOM

  2. That said, it's not leaps and bounds above what GMail offers, and I use an Android phone. GUess which mail provider I'm sticking with...

  3. Side note: Chase isn't making much money off of me, even counting in transaction fees. Wonder what my credit rating is these days...

  4. Still haven't gotten a pack of these. Want them though. And yes, I'll make sure they don't wind up in my intestines.
  5. To be fair though, many KCK neighborhoods have a 25% take rate requirement for buildout. Many in KCMO are 10% or 5%.

  6. ...and the #heavenfest Google Calendar is complete! http://t.co/IDQG7NFn RT if you find it useful :)

  7. Building a (unofficial) Google Calendar for @Heavenfest right now. It's available at http://t.co/IDQG7NFn if anyone wants it. Enjoy!

  8. I know Sprint is the only carrier where we have (to my knowledge) information about which vendor is handling what part of their network, but I'm curious as to whether Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile have similarly regionalized their next-gen network deployments. For reference, here's who's building out networks for the Big Four, plus C-Spire and MetroPCS (since we now who they're using to roll out LTE): Verizon - Ericsson, AlcaLu, NSN AT&T - Ericsson, AlcaLu Sprint - Ericsson, AlcaLu, Samsung T-Mobile - Ericsson, NSN MetroPCS - Ericsson, Samsung C-Spire - AlcaLu AlcaLu = Alcatel-Lucent NSN = Nokia Siemens Networks ...and yes, Ericsson is really busy rolling out LTE, it seems.
  9. Downgrading my Comcast internet ahead of transferring service to a roommate (moving to TWC-land). I'll miss 50/15. Everyone else won't.

  10. Just updated to Sprint's new voicemail app, which adheres to ICS theming cinventions. Looks nice and works well so far.

  11. Almost. I'm saying that certain cities won't be shown as covered in the market until those cities are...well...actually covered. It might be at 70% of completion, it might be earlier, it might be later.
  12. Example: Fredericksburg, TX. It's part of the San Antonio market, however its sites aren't ready yet. So no coverage on the coverage map.
  13. Incorrect. There are cities that aren't showed as covered in a given market right now that would be covered at 100% for that market...because they aren't covered yet. My guess is that the maps are just a bit optimistic with RF patterns, but do represent completed/accepted Sprint cell sites on the day that they were made, or maybe a few days/weeks into the future.
  14. A few points on "why doesn't Google Fiber do this": http://t.co/mJBujiHp

  15. (said by someone who has been paying >$70 for 'net access for months, and will continue to for the foreseeable future).

  16. Correction: LTE isn't GSM. It is a 3GPP standard, sure, along with HSPA. But saying that it's like GSM is like saying WiFi is like WiMAX because they are both IEEE 802.x standards. I too hope that the S3 gets its HSPA radio unlocked. However I'm not even sure the phone on Sprint has that radio inside.
  17. Of the 74 fiberhoods in Kansas City, KS, one has so far hit the minimum for a #GoogleFiber buildout. KCMO has two.

  18. Hacked URLs -> realtime Google Fiber fiberhood progress...so far Roanoke will get built out first: https://t.co/WcyysfRz

  19. The tower itself will look identical...towers are generally owned by a tower company rather than a wireless carrier. Though Verizon owns some of its towers (as does AT&T and, to an extent, T-Mobile). The equipment on the towers OTOH may look a bit different, comparing legacy Sprint/VZ/AT&T/etc. to NV or VZ/AT&T LTE.
  20. Anyone got a download link for the firmware yet? Or could someone send the file to me when you get it? My phone isn't picking up the update yet.
  21. I'm now using Messages instead of Adium, and Notifications instead of Growl. Wonder what else I'll end up using built-in equivalents for.

  22. Side note: two simultaneous 10.8 downloads still aren't saturating my connection. Granted, it's 50M, but it wouldn't even saturate 30M :(

  23. I have no problem calling TMo DC-H+ 4G, from what I've seen of it. Sure, LTE is faster (in 5x5 or wider channels). WiMAX is slower and it's still 4G. AT&T on the other hand...I'll just stop there. I could rant for awhile abiut their intentional obfuscation of what 4G means...ahem iPhone. Sent from my Galaxy SIII-32GB using Forum Runner
  24. Never mind the fact that an additional 1x voice carrier will be added nationwide on SMR. This won't decrease PCS load much...that carrier will be for coverage more than capacity...but every little bit helps. The nice thing about a market like LA is that, as Sprint gets smartphone users pushed to LTE, they'll likely be able to refarm enough PCS to launch a third PCS LTE 5x5 carrier...or widen carrier two to 10x10. That's a bit more of a stretch, sure, but it's not nearly as aggressive as what T-Mobile will end up doing on PCS in many places to get H+ up and running. Kinda curious myself about Austin, where Sprint's spectrum holdings are more fragmented. I would love to run the same spreadsheet analysis that AJ has done, but I guess I need Top Secret clearance for that : p Sent from my Galaxy SIII-32GB using Forum Runner
