  1. Offtopic, but you really have a Chromebook pixel? I got the CR-48 and thought it was cool, but never really thought about paying for a chromebook before.

I do, but since it was a freebie from attending this year's I/O I can't feel too bad about the cost.  Would I have purchased one anyway? Most certainly.  Fortunately for me I can justify this as a business expense.

  2. Not kid rated

My nephew loves Cailou and Special agent Oso right now. I have my Netflix account setup on our big tv, and now when I log in my top 10 is nothing but kid shows.

I have the same problem.....  I thought Netflix was going to start making individual user logins to combat this

  3. Your "wide" isn't a member here right?

My little ones jump from Dora the explorer to Avengers (in any form) and everywhere in between.  I really was getting ready to make a webcasted Dora Spoof with all of the f'ed up dark comedy that kept popping up in my head every time Dora would come on.....

Ever seen the Episode where Dora goes undercover with the KKK?

  4. I do take gold. Even a half ounce is fine. Mail to: P.O. Box 663, Tesuque, NM 87574

LOL.  If any of us use Gmail (or a custom domain provided through Google) you can send money directly through the email interface.  I do it all of the time (Just not here yet.)

Maybe (IN ADDITION TO SENDING IN OUR PERSONAL GOLD RESERVES   ) we should start sending all of our old devices as a donation for a later fundraising auction, or just so that you can get in the guinness book for the largest collection of obsolete devices.

  5. For some reason I had problems trying to find the sign-in or create new account icon.  This was probably a newby issue.

I honestly forgot my passwords eons ago when we first moved to the new site.

Because of that I just use the Sign-In with Twitter option so that I don't have to remember if my chicken was original or extra crispy and only click to icons

  6. He has a family and a job. I think he's fully allocated.

Well then we will need to chip in and purchase Google Glass for Robert....   And pay someone to develop that S4GRU app and you can access him at all hours he is awake.

We should also make a custom chicken grease guard for him to go with said Google Glass.

  7. Mr. Son, here's the link, shut this guy up!   ;)  https://twitter.com/john_legere/status/359912782860267520

I think that may be a masayoshi poser or fan.    Son's actual Twitter handle is @masason as seen here https://twitter.com/masason.  (verified account)

For those who can't read Japanese (or understand the broken english from a shoddy google page translation or have a step grandmother who is actually japanese and can translate) there are some interesting tweets coming from him

  8. Are we all blue in the face yet?  That's the way I'm feeling and I haven't even chimed in on the post yet.

The new plans may work for many people and not for others.  At least we have a choice.  I have 6 lines on my Sprint account and 2.5 (Don't consider the Pixel a full line) on Verizon, but I wouldn't discount the idea of actually looking to see if these plans make sense for me or any others I know that use Sprint.

My monthly for Sprint is about $400/mo with fees and taxes (EDIT: + discount which I don't recall an amount) and I average about 3gb per line (18gb/mo total with 6 lines) usage.  I am glad to see our network getting better.

Some current customers may even decide to jump on a new plan if they are in a non-NV rollout area and are satisfied with the service level if it provides them some savings .

I feel like I am going off on many tangents here and will probably not make any changes to my present plan until NV is rolled out a little further and we see the release of the upcoming new triband devices.

  9. Interesting that there is actually a thread on Chromebooks.  I have the 64gb LTE version from attending this year's Google I/O conference.  A small group of individuals are trying to find a way to hack the LTE chip for use on other networks (like Sprint.)

After the sticker shock goes away, (LTE model retails for $1449) it is actually a pretty damn slick device. Fortunately I did not have to pay for mine, but for those with extra cash to burn that are looking for a different experience, It can be worthwhile.  for the few things I cannot do, i can use Chrome Remote Desktop to access my other computers.  I have found less need for Remote Desktop as of late since I have Linux Dual-booted so I can still access things like Skype or use Wine to run windows programs if necessary.

Has anyone else had the chance to play with this device?  It certainly is a beast and can take a major fall with no problems.  The first week out of the box I had it come crashing down on the floor in the doctor's office when my little brother was throwing a tantrum at his appointment.  I was worried that the screen or housing would have been utterly ruined, but there is not a scratch, ding or dent on it.  Not that I want to repeat this impromptu test any time soon.

  10. Hi digi,

I've done most of the mapping within about 10 miles of my house (ZIP 91977), and my GNex maps the full LTE color spectrum from dark purple to very light purple. The color matches the coverage I get very well. I'm running the GA02 radios with CM10.1 and Fancy Kernel, if it makes a difference.

If it's helpful, I can send you whatever numbers you need from Sensorly or Signal Check Pro.

    Have a great evening!

    John

Well what do you know, you are right across the lake/resovoir/puddle from me, and also named John.  The universe is clearly messing with me today

  11. Can't go to page 23... aaah.. let's  see if i can post a comment to get me to the next page... lol

  12. Not sure on that one as I don't follow those PRLs really as there is no excitement to them without LTE or 800SMR.

Still curious of what ticket(s) caused the temporary 2xxx series for the Note2.  800SMR works fine on the phone from what I've seen.  I've actually seen more reports around the web of people being used to the 800SMR coverage that they have had for a while now they don't have coverage and some are roaming now.

They're onto us.  No 800SMR for anyone.  LOL

  13. I believe we will see a revamped pricing structure that is similar to Tmobile's new plans( with subsidy included of course). I also believe Sprint will follow suit and bundle unlimited text and talking with their new plans.

I believe it will be something along the lines of:

the unlimited talk/text/.5-1Gb data for 60-70,

    unlimited talk/text/1.5-2.5Gb data for 70-80,

    and unlimited talk/text/data for 80-90.

I also believe tethering will be included in the capped data plans.

I don't see a future where tethering is included in any plans unless Masayoshi changes that (for which I would be grateful.)  I should start using the tethering add-on that I have been paying for though, It just seems all for nought when my coverage is generally spotty where I would wish to tether.

  14. Why in the world would you know that you "have to switch to" T-Mobile?

    AJ

I think this is predicated on Charlie totally Fubar'ing the whole Sprint/Clearwire/Softbank merger to all kingdom come.  There might be quite a few ship jumpers if that all falls through and Son decides to acquire TMobile US whole and own a substantial chunk in Clearwire or have a network sharing agreement in place.

  15. In Masayoshi's latest move, he is pulling a Captain Howdy of his own to become a major shareholder in his own right. For this I will applaud the man, he was always smart about his investments while keeping his loyal present and future customers a part of his plans.

    Charlie not so much.

There are absolutely no synergies to be had in an overextended and poorly financed Dish/Sprint deal; whether we are talking spectrum, debt loads, or wanting to hijack Sprint's already taxed airwaves for some pie-in-the-sky video on demand service.

We as the customers don't want that.  We don't want an over-leveraged company that has no plans for moving the company forward or remotely making good on the present overhaul that is slowly benefiting us all and will carry Sprint into a prosperous future, to become a major competitor, the likes of which VZ and AT&T have never seen.

From an investment standpoint nobody with half a brain wants an over-leveraged firm swimming in, nay choking on obscene amounts of debt and resultant debt service while stagnating any future growth potential on the ARPU end, on profit, on margins or any other financial metric you want to throw at it.  If you thought Sprint was hungry/thirsty before, you haven't seen anything yet!

This will force hardcore customers to leave as well as those tenacious few who are holding on because they see the bright future Sprint has been headed toward.  If it's Charlie's game you can almost guarantee several things from both a customer and investor standpoint:

    1. a major lack of faith in the brand itself

2, the massive fallout that will occur when large quantities of fed up customers leave because of a lack of investment/advancement/progress in network architecture, quality and reach save for some bullshit bundled add-on for a service that most mainstreamers do not want.

    3. The added and much expected (read: higher, more costly, and "premium") price of service increases will push churn through the roof.

Everyone loses in that eventuality especially any greedy investors who will not be able to offload their stock fast enough before an inevitable mass market crash.

And for those who really don't understand Ergen's psychology or even business practice history, let me make this abundantly clear; No matter what rose-colored glasses Charlie has put on your faces at any point in time, a "real" and "acceptable" and "fully-funded" and "rational" and "substantial" deal with tangible benefits for both customers and investors was never in the cards.

He made his play early on and on multiple occasions (years ago) and his megalomaniac need to control all things eventually forced Sprint to shun any partnership deals shortly after jump.  If anyone ever had any hope for a successful joint venture or partnership between some ass-backward triumvirate of telecom-orgy-love between Hesse/Son/Ergen at any point in the past or the future without taking into account the vanity, hunger and desire or need for absolute control on the Ergen side of ANY equation, I feel truly sorry for you.
