  1. There was a beautiful thread on it a little while ago. What irks me is how verizon still uses outdated maps in their commercials even though we know they have superior coverage.

every time I see those commercials I pause and rewind to see the fine print.  usually their coverage maps are 6mos-year old and the fine print is an entirely different 6mos-year timeframe.

Density for the 2.6 network. They have also indicated that expanded service into new areas is not a priority for them. I am sure they will do some but I don't get the impression that a massive push in rural coverage is any where on the horizon.

Robert explained it best above.  As far as density is concerned that also has been addressed.  They are looking at femto and pico cells to help "densify" coverage in the future which they are not including in their overall macrocell figures.

I'm certainly of the same mind that Son and Co will not be discussing any additional cell sites since they will probably be used for leverage in the T-Mo buyout.  One thing Son is, is not stupid.  He has many cards up his sleeve.

  2. I just picked up 200 shares of $S, I have a good feeling about the merger talks tomorrow and the progress of NV going into the rest of the year. Also writing options, if any of ya'll are interested  :tu:

Anyone else holding any positions? I feel like Sprint could run up above $10 if the merger talks are positive and NV continues on schedule. Softbank/Son aren't playing any games here, they're in it to win it.

I have a moderate position in S although not where I wanted to be as my investment instructions were not followed post SB merger and Post CLWR acquisition.  They converted my shares to cash which sat there for months doing nothing before I realized that they were not converted to new shares as I had instructed.  A little whatever disconnect caused this issue, I would have had better returns pre to post had the conversion gone appropriately instead of a later repurchase at a higher price point

  3. So my phone needed a reboot for the clock to show the correct time. I also needed a damn good excuse why I hadn't showered, eaten breakfast, or arrived to work on time today... Not thrilled. Anyone with a second handset on sprint notice a delay in updating the time or was this device specific?

device specific as far as i know. i had to re-enable automatic/pull from network date/time settings which i had not altered previously.  my n5 went an hour ahead 5 days before DST

  4. I wish Sprint knew how to advertise. Their framily commercial makes me sad, especially when the Verizon More Everything commercial plays right after it.

I have some marketing/advertising ideas: Who else wants to see a karate kid-esque commercial with Oto-san as Mr. Miyagi and the dynamic duo daniel/son(masayoshi) go head to head with the "can you here me now guy" and the "magenta biker chick" on the mat in perhaps what appears to be the control deck of the death star?

They can end the it with some happy go lucky slogan that integrates network vision/spark/etc in a similar fashion to KK moral/takeaway of there being more to the martial art than fighting....

sounds cheesy i know, but it is 1000 percent better than the current campaigns. but some level of nuanced subtlety, humor, nostalgia etc...

  5. Also, this phone does not seem to be impacted as badly (or at all) in areas with eCSFB issues.

My N5 will crap out and need an airplane mode toggle to reconnect to LTE whereas the G Flex will not.    It appears that when N5 users (like my other other self?) get the Spark update, then you won't be left out in the cold when it comes to having a reliable signal (in affected markets)

  6. Important FYI for Users of Gmails 2-step authentication

If you have 2-step authentication enabled in gmail you will probably lose your mind trying to add your account.  Apparently LG's software in the G FLex is having some compatibility issues with this feature, but there is a workaround until this is fixed in a future update.

If you absolutely must have your 2 step authentication (like me) then go into the 2 step authentication settings and create an app specific password and use that as your password to setup your accounts.

  7. Please do a prl/profile update, remove the battery and power your phone off...

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

         No Phones were harmed in the making of this post.  Make sure that you use a flat head screwdriver!! :tu:

On a side note: the G Flex seems to perform better in my ECSFB area but maybe because it is already spark enabled?

  8. Because it doesn't "need" it. If there is a reason, it's because the Nexus 5 is such a strong RF performer, and happens to find more usable 1900 MHz signals than the Note 3 has so far.

I feel like a lot of people are starting to believe that being connected to 800 is "better" than being connected to 1900, and I do not feel that is correct. The general benefit of 800 is better signal penetration. If you are already connected to a usable 1900 signal, there is no need to switch to 800. It's not any faster. You're not missing anything.

    -Mike

    I wouldn't mind a little more (or some/any) penetration in my house.   {insert witty pun here}

  9. I was wondering about the 800 LTE coverage in the OC. I thought Spark meant TD-LTE and 800 LTE. I figured the old Wimax sites got converted but i wasn't aware of any 800 sites.

could be worse. you could live so far in the IBEZ that you are only 7 miles from the border  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:

Would someone please buyout NIH and fix the southside problems? You there Masayoshi?

  10. That saves me money as I don't have the temptation to buy 4 phones a year lol. I'll wait till carrier aggregation chip set is released before I move from my Max and nexus. So what is the maminum amount sprint has for td-lte as i was doing some reading. NYC has the ability to bound 5 or 6, 20 MHz sites together while some other markets only have 2 or 3 x 20 channels.

But the LG FLex looks so promising... aaaaaaah  :wall:

  11. What other explanation is needed?

    1. SVDO/SVLTE are going away.

    2. There are still older handsets that support SVDO/SVLTE if needed (and the complainers seem to have the handsets anyway)

    3. VoLTE is coming in and every carrier will be scrambling to get it up and running and Sprint will be at the forefront.

    4. 5-10 different VOIP App options were given in this thread multiple times over (IF you ABSOLUTELY NEED to use this feature on a Triband device)

  12. I would be careful assuming that the DOJ has to justify this. The DOJ has shown they have no problem throwing their weight around since if they sue, the deal is likely dead. Not dead because Sprint/Softbank will lose, they would probably win. It would take years for the case to work it's way out and that is an eternity with this big of a buy.

On the thought of all these DoJ suits..... Does anyone know where all the money and fines go?

  13. I would like some advice and opinions from the S4GRU members.

I have 2 lines available for an upgrade and 3 more available on 03/01/2014.  With the possibility of subsidized upgrades going away most likely would you upgrade the 2 phones to Nexus 5 now through Sprint for the 16GB models or would I be better off getting the 32GB from the play store and possibly loose all upgrades when they disappear from Sprint?

Is there that big of an advantage or need for the extra 16GB to cover the extra cost of $300.00 per phone?

    :thx: in advance.

    Dennis

considering you have only 12gb or less usable out of the box, it would make sense to go with the 32 gb if you are a moderate or higher user. once you have a few apps and start taking pictures or video, the remaining space will be used up pretty quickly between app cache, those apps and pictures or video.  considering there is no upgradable or user expandable storage i can only recommend based on my own personal experience.  i believe there is only 26028 usable gigs out of the box on the 32 gig and i only have 3gbs remaining myself, most of it is used by apps and app cache needed for things like google music or any cloud based service (since im not in a completely reliable lte area yet it is sometimes best to let the app precache)

is there a special on subsidized contract extension prices at this time (as in $100 or less?)  it is still $50 cheaper to buy the 32gb outright from google vs the 16gb outright from sprint. It is all about tradeoffs at this point in time, so it will be up to you to determine if it is best if you take the upgrade price/contract extension at this point in time.  many are under the impression that subsidies will disappear entirely in a short period of time, but i don't know your unique situation.

I prefer the breathing room from the device with more space (it's too bad sprint didnt sell these directly) and while i do not plan to leave sprint in the remote future, it is nice that my device is mine and down the line i wanted to move it, there would be no contractual obligation remaining where i would pay a contractual etf or return my device (think tmobiles present gimmick)
