  1. That the Nexus 5X tested out to be a good low and mid band performer? I think I read someone write that in an article. AJ
  2. Who is your spectrum daddy? Say it! http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-394-columbus-8640-the-age-of-10-mhz-fdd-discovery/ AJ
  3. Changing of the seasons. The leaves are falling and turning from green to gray. Your order is just getting older. AJ
  4. Yeah, I noticed that my SCC signal metrics are there but do not seem to populate. I thought that it was just me, as I do not run many data intensive activities, and CA does not engage while idle. But maybe it is not just me. For S4GRU RF trackers, these unlocked, third party Android 5.1-6.0 handsets this fall have been a real mixed bag. I do not regret the $900 I have spent in the name of research and experience. However, I am a bit disappointed. Huawei is such a wild card at this point, but maybe the Nexus 6P will be the one that avoids all of these shortcomings. We shall see... AJ
  5. That is good advice about the System Shortcuts in SignalCheck Pro. Shortcut maker apps can create a home screen shortcut to the internal Debug app, but that shortcut fails for some odd reason. Of course, the *#*#DEBUG#*#* dialer code works, but that is tedious to enter every time while out and about. On the topic of roaming, under the user accessible Settings app, data roaming appears to be disabled by default. So, others may want to check that setting. It would override any internal LTE roaming setting. AJ
  6. Well, the camera lens does float and rattle a little bit. If you request an exchange, I think you are being anal retentive. And the exchange likely would rattle, too. http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/anal-retentive-chef/n9695 AJ
  7. Does the camera have optical image stabilization? If so, the camera lens has a certain amount of float and can rattle if shaken. AJ
  8. At S4GRU, we aim to please. But we cannot and will not pleasure you directly. You must frequently visit our site for info to pleasure yourself -- or to use for her pleasure. AJ

  10. That will be somewhat difficult. I cannot have both running on the same Sprint line in the same place at the same time. I suppose, though, with the separate SIM cards that I can gauge LTE signal metrics on both. The Nexus 5 will be inactive, only monitoring network signal. AJ
  11. I continued my mad scientist bent today, running the CSIM hot swap experiment after the Nexus 5X was IMEI/MEID activated. From the Nexus 5X back to the 2015 Moto X, the CSIM hot swap does work on the 3GPP side -- both LTE and eHRPD data function right away. However, it does not appear to work on the 3GPP2 side. I did not test EV-DO, but CDMA1X was not activated. An outgoing call was redirected to a Sprint operator. And regardless of airlink, incoming SMS was not delivered. In conclusion, if you plan to swap somewhat frequently, your best bet is to have a separate Sprint SIM for each handset. That obviates the need to dig out the sharp, tiny SIM ejection tool, not to mention, fumble with the similarly tiny nano SIM and tray. I know that this will not be popular with some who want physical hot swapping, but the online activation tool can accomplish the same in five minutes. AJ
  12. I have restored a reserved second post, updating it with Nexus 5X activation instructions for those who have other handsets with already activated Sprint SIM cards that also are compatible with the Nexus 5X. AJ
  13. Now, the not so good news. While engineering screens display both PCC and SCC signal metrics and are accessible via the *#*#DEBUG#*#* dialer code, the debug app does not stay in the recent apps drawer. Moreover, it does not allow a home screen shortcut. AJ
  14. My Nexus 5X arrived an hour ago. After running updates on my Nexus 5X, I decided to be a trailblazer and try hot swapping the CSIM from my 2015 Moto X to my unactivated Nexus 5X. As I expected, that did not pass muster. The Nexus 5X latched onto band 41, but the hands free cellular activation process would not complete even after several minutes. So, I am headed to the online activation tool to add the Nexus 5X IMEI/MEID first. AJ
  15. No, it is not specifically for LTE. The Lower 700 MHz A block could be used for W-CDMA -- it is 3GPP standardized as band 12, just as with LTE. The Lower 700 MHz A block even could be used for two way, narrowband analog radio communication if that is what a licensee wanted to do with it. AJ
  16. If you want to be the guinea pig for swapping a compatible CSIM between an activated device and an unactivated device, go right ahead. But my solid expectation is that the second device will need to be activated first. Then, CSIM swapping may be possible. But until the IMEI/MEID has been added to your account via the online device activation tool, I do not think that just an activated CSIM will do the trick. Sprint is not equipped for it or will not allow it. AJ
  17. That is why I suggest these corporations not try to be what they are not. Just be what they are. Own their identities and locations. There is nothing wrong with that. AJ
  18. Yes, but even the band 25 speed test screenshot does not confirm 10 MHz FDD. It still could be 5 MHz FDD. AJ
  19. Sprint cannot feasibly reserve 5 percent of the EBS spectrum for the licensees and their institutions/middlemen lessors. In many instances, that would be just 1-5 MHz, potentially even less than 1 MHz. Sprint cannot do anything useful with that amount of spectrum -- nor probably can the licensees and their institutions/middlemen. So, do you propose that Sprint reserve 5 percent of band 41 LTE data capacity for the licensees and their institutions/middlemen? AJ
  20. Some people live here… They waffle back and forth a lot. AJ
  21. The Nexus 5X user thread is live. The Wall article has been updated a second time with all LTE ERP/EIRP figures and analysis. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-398-updated-teaser-is-s4gru-5x-certain-that-this-is-the-new-nexus-5x/ AJ
  22. For activation of the Nexus 5X on Sprint, if you already have a compatible and activated 4FF nano SIM (such as from the HTC One M9, 2015 Moto X, et al.), you can reuse that CSIM in the Nexus 5X. However, you first must add the Nexus 5X IMEI/MEID to your account. The Sprint online activation tool had no difficulty with that process today, perfectly recognizing a 16 GB Nexus 5X, even including the proper handset image. Any Nexus 5X purchased from the Google Store appears to be already whitelisted on Sprint. As you add the Nexus 5X IMEI/MEID to your account, the online activation tool gives you the explicit option to reuse your current SIM. You do not need to reenter the UICC ID. With the Nexus 5X IMEI/MEID addition complete, you can power cycle the handset. The hands free activation process will then start and successfully complete. AJ
