Deval, yes, that figure obviously counts extant Cellular 850 MHz and PCS 1900 MHz spectrum. Let me use your neck of the woods, NYC, as an example. Here are VZW's total spectrum holdings in NYC: Cellular 850 MHz: 25 MHz PCS 1900 MHz: 40 MHz AWS 2100+1700 MHz: 40 MHz Lower 700 MHz: 12 MHz Upper 700 MHz: 22 MHz Total: 139 MHz However, VZW has told the FCC that it will divest the Lower 700 MHz A block 12 MHz license. Additionally, of the Upper 700 MHz C block 22 MHz license, 2 MHz is unusable for LTE, and of the Cellular 850 MHz B block 25 MHz license, arguably 5 MHz is unusable for LTE. So, VZW's total potentially usable spectrum for LTE stands at 120 MHz right now. AJ

I could not care less about only 8 GB of internal storage. Keep the 8 GB tablets coming. I do not "veg out" watching movies or playing video games on my tablets. If I want to watch a BD or play Nintendo Wii, I have invested over $10,000 in audio/video equipment that is far better suited to those tasks. AJ

I am sure Ray intends that CDMA2000, not CDMA in general, is the dying technology because, yes, indeed, W-CDMA is CDMA. But the GSM/3GPP zealots like to disguise that their airlink is, in fact, a mimic of the cdmaOne/CDMA2000 airlnk and relies upon numerous Qualcomm patents. AJ

I could be wrong, but I doubt that llk121 is a Sprint user. He/she strikes me as someone with a little bit of network knowledge who is here to rabble-rouse, especially with the post up the page. If the criticism is constructive, that is perfectly fine. llk121's post remains within posting guidelines, but just barely, as it veers close to flame bait. The problem is that quality and capacity are a balancing act. Not all subs can use 13K QCELP, lest network capacity be cut by roughly 50 percent. But that quality/capacity balance may be less of a problem for T-Mobile, which requires a disproportionate amount of spectrum to service its much smaller sub base. AJ

One of the dirty little secrets in the T-Mobile-MetroPCS merger is that MetroPCS subs would lose fairly significant Extended Home Area, TravelTalk, and Unlimited Texting (i.e. different levels of roaming coverage) footprint. CDMA2000 coverage in the US is simply superior to that of the GSM ecosystem, plus T-Mobile has the most limited roaming footprint of all the major carriers. AJ

AMR-FR codecs run at 50 percent greater max bit rate (~12 kbps) than do EVRC codecs (~8 kbps), so AMR-FR codecs are also less efficient. AJ
