  1. Bean Boots? Really, those duck looking things? We had a utility pair of those in my family almost 30 years ago. I think we even got them at the flagship store in Freeport. Along those lines, I recall about a decade ago a student quipped to our campus newspaper that the school should be renamed University of The North Face. AJ
  2. You might be surprised at the number of people who have domestic data roaming disabled on their handsets. For some, that is the default setting they have never changed. For others, roaming means additional charges -- old habits die hard. AJ
  3. Do not count your chickens. The FCC may not approve TDD operations in the PCS/AWS-2 H block uplink. Sprint may also challenge this plan, since it would put downlink transmissions directly adjacent to its PCS G block uplink. AJ
  4. I am sorry, but the density/densification argument is getting old. Or maybe I am spoiled from living in the Kansas City area. Band 41 is kicking ass and taking names. It generally holds from site to site at current density. Even if it does not, band 25 and band 26 ably fill out the rest of each sector. Speeds do not have to be consistent from sector core to edge. In a single frequency network, that is impossible. Along those lines, the Magentan argument that T-Mobile has 15-20 MHz FDD speeds everywhere in each sector in applicable "wideband" markets is specious. Technically, the carrier bandwidth is accurate -- it is still 15-20 MHz FDD. But the real truth of the matter is that fading in mid/high band spectrum drops even 15-20 MHz FDD to the slow lane toward cell edges. That is called adaptive modulation and optimized scheduling. And that degradation in "wideband" speeds is arguably even worse than the switch from band 41 to band 25 or band 26. AJ

    Saygus V²

Me: Saygus, are you supporting Sprint in the V²? Gus: Yes, I am. AJ
  6. If this keeps up, I am going to change the title of this thread to "Verizon FiOS/Google Fiber Discussion." Everyone is on notice. AJ
  7. Too many Sprint handsets still floating around have non removable SIMs. Moreover, CDMA2000 provisioning is done separately. Until enough time has passed that those devices are almost all in the technology graveyard, Sprint widely offering SIMs online could prove confusing to a lot of current or potential users. AJ
  8. License protection is not about providing high quality service. It is about providing "substantial service" by covering reasonable numbers of POPs. In the likes of Billings, Bismarck, Rapid City, etc., that could be accomplished with just one to a few sites per city. Do not get your hopes up for anything greater than that. AJ
  9. As part of paring down the WiMAX network, your carrier bandwidth may have been cut from 10 MHz TDD to 5 MHz TDD. AJ
  10. Yep, the WiMAX network is still alive and kicking for a little while longer. But it will join the iDEN network soon. AJ
  11. WiMAX still occupies much spectrum. Plus, Clearwire equipment may not support greater than one WiMAX carrier and one LTE carrier. I am unsure on the latter. AJ
  12. It has been so long since I last used WiMAX -- almost three years ago -- that my memories of it are starting to get fuzzy. But as I recall, the network was designed for approximately 10 Mbps per sector. At the time, circa 2010, that was pretty fast. But that would require only 30 Mbps backhaul for the whole site -- inadequate by today's standards. Just for reference, what was the fastest speed test that anyone ever saw from a WiMAX sector? AJ
  13. I GoWiz when bloated. That often helps. AJ
  14. Are you sure the two of you talking about the same thing? Hotspot tethering vs dedicated mobile broadband device. AJ
  15. Yes, packages as small and light as those of handsets generally do not get stuck on the "slow boat (to) from China." Think iPhone. Just one cargo aircraft could carry several hundred thousand units across the Pacific. And that would be worth several hundred million dollars at retail. Not a bad shipping proposition. AJ
  16. Alright, this thread is begging for some staff moderation -- and maybe even girding for a temporary lock. Answer this question: why are you people so hellbent on rushing the proverbial doors of Sprint and getting your handsets unlocked on day one? Just because you can? Do you file your taxes the first day that the IRS starts accepting returns and not expect a backlog? Do you eat at a new restaurant the day it opens and expect a perfectly smooth dining experience? Have you ever dealt with a new policy at work and taken some time to adapt? See the reasoning? To quote Aaron Rodgers, R-E-L-A-X. Wait a few weeks. Everything will settle into place and be fine. AJ
  17. I TouchWiz only when I get a bit careless in the bathroom. But then I just wash my hands. AJ
  18. Stop the presses. Somebody, alert the Associated Press. T-Mobile works well on danlodish345's block. This is national news that everyone needs to know -- now. AJ
  19. Agree with whom? Certain limitations should be put in place to prevent or curtail abuse -- because military service personnel have special legal rights in canceling contracts freely without penalties. AJ
  20. Either way, Alfred, NY has no native Sprint coverage. Bye bye. AJ
  21. Maybe band 25 is just hiding behind your unduly massive screenshots. AJ
