  1. How many people here are in the Kalamazoo/Portage area? I haven't seen much activity lately and was wondering if anyone else has.
  2. You should link to the actual map, not an article on the map that makes you hunt for the actual map: http://specmap.sequence-omega.net/
  3. I was bored and like comparing how Sprint is catching up to AT&T on the sensorly map so I made a map of all the spots Sprint has LTE where AT&T doesn't and vice-verse. This ignores signal quality since I colored if there was ANY purple and is very zoomed out so it's hard to tell how spotty coverage is within an area, but I find it interesting nonetheless. I realize more people map for Sprint than AT&T, but I think it's impressive how far Sprint has come in the last year. Uploaded with ImageShack.us And where both have LTE mapped: Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  4. The 100MB roaming limit is stupid. You want people to not roam? Fill in the holes in your coverage. That means new sites in areas that were never designed to work with 1900MHz. A decrease from 300 to 100 isn't targeting people in no-coverage zones, it's targeting your average Joe who has to spend a percentage of his time out of coverage due to holes.
  5. Is there a scale somewhere indicating how your RSRP (dBm) measurement translates into the "bars" shown in sensorly? e.g. 4 bars is 85 dBm or better (or something like that) for 0 to 4 bars.
  6. Something's definitely mapping gray when there is absolutely no signal at all, not just a weak signal, and people are mapping thousand mile trips through zones without LTE and it's littering the maps. I wouldn't mind it mapping "no coverage" areas once a carrier has reached a level like verizon, but with the other carriers they are obviously so far from done upgrading towers that most of the "no coverage" areas will eventually be LTE areas.
  7. Which device maps the gray "no coverage" on the map? It's barely there for Sprint, but the AT&T and T-Mobile maps almost have more gray than purple.
  8. I think when they're bored or customer service doesn't have enough calls in the queue they switch off a few towers to keep things interesting.
  9. No, he replied when I mentioned him in either the Michigan or sensorly threads. That was probably an entire tank of gas. I'm still jealous that one tower alone provides better coverage than 4 towers combined around me. Must be very flat and open there.
  10. I have the opposite problem, although I don't know anything about PRLs or anything that may be causing it. My S4 often just does not switch to 4G, and I get stuck on 3G too slow to even load a map. When I toggle airplane mode, 4G is often around 85-90dBm. So I'm in 3 to 4 bar territory for LTE and my phone won't switch unless I force it sometimes. Is there some way to change the priority of how it connects or the frequency at which it checks for a faster connection?
  11. Did we ever figure out what phones cause the gray, and will there ever be a way to get rid of it or toggle it? I noticed my S4 put a few gray dots (only 1 in any place) on the 2G/3G map in locations I toggled airplane mode to force it to pick up LTE again.
  12. It will map signal strength if you turn on active mapping and then click start under "map trip" for the drive. Tower locations are easy to determine after a little mapping is done around them. Zoom in pretty far and look for the dark purple (4 bars). There's a tower somewhere in pretty much every blob of dark purple - usually near the center.
  13. But think about how much easier it will be for the government to record all our calls, texts, and data activity when they don't need to worry about getting it from a third party (the cell phone companies)!
  14. I've been having trouble with my GS4's GPS when using sensorly. It may just be a GPS issue completely, but sensorly is all I really use GPS for so I dunno. Basically it's often way off in my location. I have mapped quite a bit of Lake Michigan despite not owning a boat. It's usually just one or two dots then it jumps to another location, and eventually figures out where I am. Tonight I mapped a little new area then noticed it was saying the GPS accuracy was like 45m, and the entire time it was mapping what looked like about 45m to the east of my actual location. Anyone have anything like this happen or know what might be causing it?
  15. I see. I don't understand why Sprint didn't add a tower to the business district of St Joseph long ago though after they took control. I didn't work in the area until recently, but I do remember pretty much every time I'd stop at the bank in that area I would have to try several times just to send a text outside. When people can't use their phones when they're on their lunch break or out shopping, they're unlikely to stay with that carrier. Also, I've mapped Cleveland road multiple times on Sensorly, so it apparently doesn't even get 3G to this day.
  16. I was initially excited that Berrien county was getting LTE and based on the tower spacing I saw in the sponsor's forum thought the coverage would be fine. Now that I've gotten an LTE phone and mapped everything on sensorly it's very disappointing to me. Towers broadcasting about 1.5 miles before you lose signal completely, or clearly seeing a tower and not being able to get LTE off of it, etc. The worst part is the site locations are so poorly thought out. There's a half mile dead zone in St. Joseph: t's the entire business district where everyone who works in St Joe or Benton Harbor eats lunch every day. Literally the worst spot to have a dead zone if you want anyone local to use your service. Half of downtown BH is dead or unstable as well. Verizon has a tower right there, plus a tower right in the St. Joe business district for great coverage of both, PLUS has panels at or near every Sprint site. Looking at sensorly, it's obvious they have almost twice as many sites in the area as Sprint despite being 700Mhz vs Sprint's 1900Mhz. Is this just an area where Sprint thought, "we don't have enough subscribers and can't compete with the big two so we won't even try?" Or will 800Mhz LTE eliminate the dead zones? End rant.
  17. It boggles my mind how so many people who can afford to spend $110 dollars a month on their cell phone plan can't save up $200 to get the top end phones. You're gonna spend over $2500 during your contract on your phone and you're gonna settle for a sluggish, outdated device just to save $200?
  18. Galaxy S4. I guess I should update my profile. I took a really long way home after work and was able to get 976 straight LTE points before dropping to 3G for a few seconds. Probably Ended up with over 1000 new purple points on the map! And I'm noticing at some zoom levels Sensorly is updating in less than an hour nowadays.
  19. I've been having trouble with the GPS location in sensorly. It keeps mapping random points anywhere from a few hundred yards to a few miles from my actual location. I've put at least 3 purple dots in Lake Michigan so far and my car doesn't float.
  20. Finally got everything working and did a little mapping today. Actually found a dead block right next to one of the active towers. I'm not sure if that is normal or just because of the tower's height and the panels' downtilt & angles.
  21. I was really on the fence about the One vs the S4, but ultimately it came down to the S4 being newer (but the same price), so I figured if I decide to try the One in a few months it'll be cheaper than if I had gotten the One on contract and then the S4 at full price. It seems like this issue would be just as likely to affect both of them though. The black One does look sleeker than any other phone I've seen though.
  22. Oh alright thanks. It looks like the Play Store itself had an update installed. I'm not sure how that happened when I was updating the Sprint Zone stuff, but whatever. At least it works now over wi-fi, so that should suit me 90% of the time I'm looking to get an app. Thanks for everyone's help; I was super frustrated not being able to find a solution anywhere.
  23. I actually got it working somehow after going through the Sprint Zone app trying to find my pin (somehow I ended up updating stuff and then the notification appeared that the app was downloading). Unfortunately over 4G it's downloading Google play apps at what seems like a few kb per second (20 MB app took several minutes to get to 4%). Once I connect to wi-fi it goes the full speed of my wi-fi. The odd thing is that my 4G connection is fine: I can see it downloading stuff in the data usage, and running a speed test shows 8mbps download. :/ Anyone know what's up now? Or should I just try the reset anyway if Rocket87's advise doesn't work?
  24. Is there any harm in trying a hard reset? All that's on there is my contacts, which I still have backed up. I assume it will still be activated and whatnot, correct?
  25. I was looking forward to mapping now that I finally got an android phone, but I can't install sensorly for some reason (or any other app for that matter). I'm hoping I'm just retarded and there's a simple fix.
