Got hit with data roaming charges while in Canada.
Before I went to Canada recently, on our two GNex phones, I selected the option to disable data roaming. (Unchecked allow data roaming).
When in Canada, SMS text messaging is included in my plans and I pay a per minute fee to talk, I use wifi for data. I understand that MMS won't work when data roaming is disabled.
While in Canada, the data symbol never showed up unless I was on wifi, the voice signal bars were never blue, they kept grey, which indicated I didn't have a data connection to the Google servers.
So, why did I get hit with data roaming charges on both phones?
On the previous version of the Android software (4.0 possibly) on these phones, configured them the same way, didn't get any roaming charges.
Now its its on version 4.1 (ish), I get hit with charges.
Is this a new bug with this version of the OS software?

Does Sprint have to pay a $10 fee to Apple for each iPhone customer?
ATT/VZW do this, that is why they want people to use Android/Windows phones, customer pays the same, but the company makes more profit.

Funny this shows up today on here! I just flew from Detroit, MI to Charlotte, NC and used Gogo. Did a Speedtest and the ping was 5 ms! Download speed was typical of 3G, 0.85 Mbps, and upload was 0.43 Mbps. Kinda slow, but given that they are upgrading to EvDo Rev.B, should be better. I don't see why they just don't go to LTE...
Having the 5ms ping indicates that they could be using a transparent proxy on the plane.
I use one at home, it reduces the ping time on the speedtest app on my android device to around 7ms from 30 to 40ms.

I think it would've been better is Dish took over Clearwire, as it would mean that another competitor exists.
Sprint/Clearwire own a ton of Sprectrum, but in the majority of the country it is unused. They should be forced to sell or give away unused spectrum.

Says they be covering 250 mill ppl by the end of 2013 and 300mill in 2014. I wonder how many ppl they actually cover right now.
I wish Sprint would use square miles instead of people, as people move around, home and work and inbetween, doesn't make sense. If I'm not covered at home, at work (unless I stand on the roof), am I covered? I wouldn't count it.
Square miles should be used.

you need to check out Millenicom for info. on internet planshttp://www.millenicom.com the 20 gig plan is verizon for 69.99 and the unlimited plans are for sprint
In Millenicom's dictionary it reads that unlimited means 50 GB.

...and now CLWR is trading well above Sprint's purchase price.
Silly investors. It's not like AT&T or Verizon will swoop in to buy up Clearwire for a price above what Sprint is willing to pay. And Dish will likely stay away since now we're talking about a potentially overvalued company.
Isn't 'investing' just a fancy term for legalised gambling?
And if you win you only pay 15% tax on the winnings!

When will AT&T buy Sprint-Clear-Bank?

Airave isn't that reliable where I live either, I was trying to use it today at home, the call became garbled and crackly, then it disconnected. I had no ISP problems at the time.
Skype over wifi on the GNexus is great for phone calls, audio quality is many times better when calling other domestic/international land line phones.
May Sprint's Airave IP network is overloaded?

If it ends the need for a contract or lowers the monthly fee so in the long run buying the phone outright and paying for service for 2 years is the same or cheaper than paying more per month but with a discounted phone i'm all for it too. When your off contract now your price per month stays the same but they have made their phone money back or should have.
It does not end the required 2 year contract.

Pocketweezer, the data speeds are terrible for all of us around here. The speeds are only acceptable when out in the more rural areas, that have coverage by Sprint and roaming areas that have coverage by Verizon/U.S Cellular on 1xRtt.
Its funny how 1xRtt is over 10 times as fast as Sprint's EVDO though, but they're working on fixing it now.
-
The question is where you draw the line. In rural areas, do you run fiber to everyone's home? If not, you'll be using wireless. Who should run that wireless infrastructure? I'm sure many in this area would be fine with paying the local electric co-op $XX per month for fiber, plus another $XX for ISP and/or video service from either the co-op or someone else, but can that model work better than the shaky ground that has been UTOPIA for the last few years? Dunno.
This is what is happening in rural Washington State counties, they have better internet options and speeds than less rural city/town dwellers.

They say "Grant PUD is deploying broadband network to the people of Grant County. Once complete, all county residents will have access to a high speed Internet connection."

Does the monthly bill for cell/data service go down commensurately? And is there still a two-year contract?
Currently, there is a 2 year contract even if you don't buy a phone from T-Mobile, if you want their best prices, Value plans.

Wow I didn't even realize 3G was capable of speeds that fast. Crossing my fingers we'll see LTE soon. Looking forward to actually using my unlimited data.
oh yes, blazing, my phone almost caught fire.
I hope the first LTE/working 3g sites will start popping up any day now.

Living in the US, one small accident and one large hospital bill, could wipe out all of that million in a week..... or less.

All I want on my phone is an icon that has an accurate indication of signal strength. Whether its 3G, 4G or some other marketingG doesn't really mean anything. Just because its an anythingG, doesn't mean I'll get any certain speed or quality of service.
It is a shame that most people don't see this, they are just sold on advertising gimmicks.

T-Mobile wifi's application is pretty bad, unstable and is very visibly intrusive when running.
Plus....... when enabled, the phone still is looking for a signal, so the phone battery dies just as fast, if not faster when in an area of no signal. If its in an area of marginal ATT signal, the battery dies even faster, as its roaming and is searching for a home signal.
Airave is much better than their wifi calling.
If you want to use your phone on wifi, use the free apps that are free to use such as Vonage or T-Mobiles Bobsled.

I get the 8000 squ ft setting listed as an option on my monthly bill though, weird.
The includes gps listed is also weird.
-
You can always call airave support and have them turn it up to 8000sq ft. normally when you get it it's set to 5000sq ft.
You can edit this yourself on your account page online, but I hear it doesn't do anything anyway, more of a placebo.

See the map that was updated yesterday, it has some in progress site in King/Pierce county.
-
Sprint wants us to have the "Sprint ID' on all their phones! hahahaha, awful, really.
-
Does anyone know the directions of the antennas within the airave?
So I know which way to point it in the house.
