  1. Not sure I've seen this officially published by Sprint. Sprint says here that their 4G LTE will average 6 to 8 Mbps on the down-link with peak speeds of 25Mbps

    http://shop2.sprint.....html#tab_where

Also, note that Unlimited is continued to be emphasized. :)

    In comparison:

VZW states: 5-12 Mbps for the download.

    http://aboutus.veriz...Advantages.html

ATT states: 5-12 on their 4G LTE

    http://www.att.com/g...fairs?pid=20879

Thanks Ben. Sounds very consistent to what I reported in this article: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-83-new-network-visionlte-deployment-details-and-central-jersey-market-work-is-under-way-with-several-sites-live/

  2. Haha, very confident. Lol

To be clear here: 4G Node= 4G switch center correct.?

Like the big cdma switch centers that handle multiple towers and such...just LTE instead of cdma/evdo handling...

Based on the context of how I see them in the documents I have read, 4G LTE Cores and LTE DDC's are used synonymously and have always discussed with CDMA switch centers. I can also see through schematics that ALL 4G LTE data gets routed from the site, through backhaul to the 4G LTE Core that each site is assigned to and then gets distributed to the internet.

However, I don't have much more understanding about the LTE Cores than this. I will admit where my knowledge is short so I don't have someone come along and try to discredit me. However, I am picturing it exactly the way you are outlining above.

  3. Only guess is they those instances they don't have enough space to fit needed switches in those already built centers?...

I guess I just assumed if current switches couldn't be upgraded to handle the extra data on top of reg stuff then they'd add to the location...guess that's not possible at all places...

Tossing darts to see what sticks there. Lol

    Sounds good to me!

  4. I was being slightly sarcastic with the eol but sprint saying "you'll see a buildup of a lot of devices being launched May on forward" sprint vp of product develpment Fared Adib said last week in kc...

and with virtually no lte live yet is it wise to buy an old phone just because it says "new" on the box? sure its new for us but in a few weeks that won't even be the case anymore... I was excited for this phone in december... lol

I could be called a hypocrite cause I WANT the Note. Another "old" phone... but at least its unique.

I don't know to each their own. I just think getting into all the hype over this phone will leave some dissapointed in a month or so...

Aren't we all hypocrites when we deeply examine ourselves? I know I am! :hah:

However, the GNex will be a solid device for a long time for many folks. The lack of LTE will only be an issue for some people. If you live in a WiMax area and rely on that service, then you shouldn't upgrade to a LTE device. However, if you live in a Non WiMax area, need/want a new device, especially a flagship device, that moving to a LTE device is a no-brainer.

  5. I only have a total of 2 towers in my area but they are getting some upgrades, my singal around here is pretty sorry and im only maybe at the most 2 miles from the tower

    https://network.spri...m/search/48653/

There are more than 2 sites in your area. See my map below. The network.sprint.com website only shows sites that have received or will receive temporary upgrades in a six month window. This map, and many others are available in our Sponsors section.

  6. Like the main switch building I noted in moorisivlle, nc long ago?...if so that's a big build out there as I thought they would of just upgraded it to run through same locations if possible...actually having to build out main switch centers is something I never thought of during this whole thing ..

I'm not certain why they are separate from switches, but in most cases they are.

  7. I personally have never seen users reporting LOS issues with HTC EVO devices like that's been reported on sammy's....

I have never had LOS with my E4GT since the fix. And I only had it twice before that. If I remember correctly, the issue was WiMax antenna related.

  8. I am shocked that Sprint did not show off Network Vision in Olathe by taking reporters to see the completed site "down by the tracks."

    AJ

And then head off to the Mall for a Cinnabon! What a missed opportunity!

Phil Goldstein at Fierce Wireless is a little bit behind the times:

"Presumably, this cell site will receive the hardware and software cards necessary for LTE, since Kansas City has been named as one of Sprint's first LTE markets."

I saw that. I just shook my head when I read it.

  9. Any idea when Sacramento, CA is getting Lte. Sprintfeed is saying that Stockton is testing Lte.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2

The Upper Central Valley market is not in the first two rounds of Network Vision. SprintFeed is not even around any more, when did they say that? Also, I do not see any LTE FIT's in the Stockton area. By my information, planning and design is not yet completed in this market. They can't deploy anything without it being designed first.

It doesn't appear to me that anything is going on in Stockton at all. The closest activity I see to Stockton is in the SF Bay market. In the Brentwood and Altamont Pass areas. There will be some sites in those areas that are scheduled to begin work in July. However, there have been lots of delays in the SF Bay market deployment. So I don't even know if those dates are still good.

  10. Yeah but this is in theory. Until people start to try out the HTC Evo 4G LTE phone in real world settings, I am going to give HTC a pass. Samsung however has been proven to have a bad track record so far consistently.

I personally use my E4GT side by side with my wife's EVO all the time. I don't see the big deal everyone makes about Sammy radios. I'm sorry, I just don't.

  11. Thanks Robert, maybe I'll go with a WiMax phone when I upgrade in August and get an LTE phone in 2014. Even though Sprint doesn't officially have WiMax here there are some Clear towers with coverage at least where I work, I can roam on those right?.

Yes, you can use all Clearwire WiMax sites as native coverage until 2015. I too occasionally use WiMax protection sites here in New Mexico. I'm not certain when I'm going to upgrade yet, either.

  12. Any word on the "West Iowa/Nebraska" market? I understand they are working more densely populated areas first but Omaha is the 42nd most populous city. Just curious.

It is not in the first two rounds of Network Vision at this time. My market is even larger as the 32nd largest city, and no dice. Unfortunately, with a deployment plan, there will be some early winners. Not everyone can be in the beginning. We can commiserate together. :(

  13. I noticed that Marion Ohio has a Protection 4G tower, but I don't receive any 4G signal. Is that to say that it hasn't been activated just yet for the general public to use? Thank you. Mark - KD8RUW

The Marion WiMax Protection Site went live a long time ago. We announced it back on July 26, 2011. However, I have heard several reports of people trying to connect to it since then, and have been unable to. There are a few protection sites like this one which just flat out aren't working. And getting Clearwire out to fix Protection Sites is almost an impossibility. I have tried several times. :(

  14. I wonder if Ericsson has the biggest advantage in the NV project since Ericsson manages Sprint's network.

Alcatel Lucent and Ericsson both won hardware contracts with Verizon and AT&T - it seems like Samsung would be the most disadvantaged.

I wonder how much competition there is between the three of them in terms of deployment schedule.

Anecdotally, this seems to be the case. I can't believe I used the term "anecdotally" back to back.

  15. i wish i could get all that infor on my address lol i make advanced tech tell me some but they dont know all of it or how to acess some of it and some are afraid to get in trouble lol

my zip is 60433 if any one can look it all up

Zip codes don't mean anything to me. But if you are in Joliet (I am guessing from your profile), then you are in an active Network Vision area. Some of the sites on the west side going out toward I-55 have already been converted. There are maps in our Sponsors area that show details of where.

  16. wouldnt it be better if sprint could have phones that could talk and surf at the same time that would be a phone i would buy like the iphone on at&t

It is a device feature. Many Sprint phones will allow surfing WiMax or WiFi and talking on the phone. The LG Viper and Galaxy Nexus will allow LTE and talking on the phone (SVLTE). And the new EVO LTE will allow 3G, LTE and WiFi simulatenously while talking on the phone (SVDO and SVLTE).

  17. Too bad AJ couldn't get the grand tour like the other reporters.

Don't expect to see S4GRU invited to Overland Park any time soon. AJ is now guilty by association.

There really is no strategy to start in a small market and creep into the urban area. They just ran their initial testing in less populated areas.

Agreed. However, anecdotally it appears to be deploying this way looking at completed NV site maps. Except in LA, where it is right in the middle of the market.
