The Ole Miss football team has gotten better each year under head coach Hugh Freeze, and in 2014 the Rebel fan experience will do the same with the addition of a new state-of-the-art Wi-Fi network from C Spire at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Officials plan to have the network ready for use in time for the Rebels’ home opener Sept. 13. The high-capacity network will feature the latest Wi-Fi and fiber optic technology with over 700 access points strategically located throughout the stadium.

C Spire and Ole Miss will use the school’s first two home football games to test and optimize the network. Connectivity will be provided at no cost to any fan choosing to access the network during the Rebels’ games vs. Louisiana-Lafayette and Memphis.

Beginning with Ole Miss’ Southeastern Conference home opener against Alabama, C Spire will provide free network access for its customers who attend the game. Fans with service from other wireless providers will also be able to access the network for $4.99 per game.

 

Maybe C Spire will throw a bone to the customers of its RRPP partner Sprint too, and let us on their WiFi network free. :)

 

Alas, I haven't been back in Oxford since the nearby tower went 4G live to see if Sprint's LTE network holds up in the stadium on gamedays. Sprint CDMA was always a complete disaster on Saturdays in the Grove and in the stadium too.

I'll be heading down to Oxford at some point this season to see an Ole Miss game - my sister went there for college and I fell in love with the tailgating and atmosphere.

 

I can't wait to see what the Grove is like with a usable data connection!

No NFL stadium charges for Wi-Fi.  Is this the difference between college football and the NFL now?  Which is truly the bigger money whore?

True no pro team does but I can say at reliant stadium in Houston and att stadium in Dallas the WiFi is as usless as mobile data. University's need money and look to find anyway to make it and I am sure the athletic department and university will get some of this back.

No SEC stadium sells alcohol per conference rule. Kyle Field at Texas A&M does not sell alcohol. DKR Memorial Stadium and texas university does not sell, but are experimenting with it in other athletic venues. The University of Houston does sell beer at all of their venues. Baylor doesnt sell beer because, well, they're Baptist. Thats all I know.

No. Technically the stadium is in the unincorporated part of Lafayette County, which is dry; even if SEC rules allowed alcohol sales, the university couldn't sell alcohol without a change in state law or annexation by the city of Oxford (the latter is unlikely because the city doesn't want several thousand potential additional voters who could influence a city council election).

 

In practice... hard liquor is substantially easier to find in the stadium than a Mississippi State fan who is only "ringing responsibly" during the Egg Bowl. But the school only makes money off the soda mixer. :)

 

Plus if there's a population of people who will shell out $5 for internet access, it's in the Vaught. The only poor people in the stadium are the players...

Well, I am largely pleased by those answers.  If two things do not mix well and make a good concoction, they are probably SEC football fanaticism and booze.  Plus, if the university were already making money off of beer sales in the stadium, selling Wi-Fi access, too, would be profiteering.

Yeah, but SEC football games at neutral sites are fair play.

 

Which leads to women squirrel jumping the opposing fanbases. Some of the tower crews should make her an offer to join their workforce. She could leap in and out of towers without struggle and move NV along quickly.

      In China now and roaming on China Mobile with Google Fi/TMUS. 5G is enabled on roaming, however most areas in China have NSA disabled on the network. so SA is the only way to get 5G. This is only possible using a native SIM from the Chinese carriers. Also, LTE CA is disabled on basically every site, except for a few I've come across while on the bullet train.   I'm lucky enough to be in a small town where NSA is still enabled on China mobile, so I'm able to have a decent experience while roaming. Haven't speedtested much but it seems to top out at 300mbps over roaming on b3 + n41 100mhz. The networks here are dense AF and every site seems to have midband 5G deployed. Also, interesting to see that most sites have antennas branded by the carrier, or painted a certain color (which I haven't figured out what that means yet).

      My S21FE, which is my primary phone, has burned in quite a bit from SCP.  Not sure I could get a good picture of it, so I won't try.  Helpfully, since SCP allows full customization of app colors, I'm going to see if I can't undo it a bit by flipping the colors. https://imgur.com/a/QQr5Ncv We'll see how long my eyes tolerate the change... - Trip
