3G Speeds in Miami

Mondays In Flames

Recommended Posts

I'm starting this topic because I'm extremely curious about Sprints network for 3G. I currently have the EVO LTE and I absolutely love it, the only thing that bothers me a bit is Sprint 3G network. At times it's great, it flies for 3G but it's only in certain areas such as Coral Gables, Biscayne, Palmetto Bay, and Pinecrest. Other areas such as Doral, Kendall, and Sweetwater, the network is horrible.

In the areas where the connection is amazing, I get pings as low as 89ms (Would post pictures, but I had to get a replacement phone) and up to 2.2mbps. In other areas the highest pings I've recorded are 889ms and the speeds crawl at 0.01mbps.

My question is this, I read somewhere on the interwebs that NV is starting from the South (as in Homestead area) and working it's way north, but what I see is that the Coastal areas have better speeds, and the inland areas are not as great...? Is NV being worked on down here, and from where?

Most cities start network vision on the outer city area and work inward. One example of this is Chicago were towers started to be updated in the outer city area. I believe there are no NV completed towers in Downtown Chicago yet reported. If the Miami market is down the same way then speeds will be better by the coast, the outer city. NV has started in Miami though and should be finished by early 2013.

What about Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach? I live in central Broward and wanted an ETA on when I could see a few towers start popping up near me. I too have the same issues of fast connection (very few spots) and slow everywhere else but I have not noticed a difference versus inland, etc. Also you can find out data on your local tower repairs @ https://network.sprint.com/ although it only shows 3G fixes and no network vision info.

Thanks,

You should also donate so that you can see the progress of sites that are expected to come online. There is one site located in Palm Beach that Robert reported should be completed. More sites should show up on next month map as well...

I would love to see some NV Love down here for Miami in July :)

It would be my birthday after all, that would be an amazing birthday present :D

I'm new here so excuse me if this seems like a silly question How much of a donation do you need to make before you are able to view the additional network maps?

Looks like my local tower may have had a speed upgrade completed. I've never experienced this type of 3G speeds ever in my home since joining Sprint.

    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.
    • What is the cheapest way to try Dish's wireless network?  Over the past year I've seen them add their equipment to just about every cell site here, I'm assuming just go through Boost's website?  What phones are Dish native?
