  1. Well I have to give it to Verizon. The guy came out in 0 degree weather with over a foot of snow on the ground and spent 8 hours hooking up my fiber connection. Speed tests show about 60mbps down and 30mbps up which is nice. Overall video quality is a bit better with fios but will take some time to get a good feel for performance.

Hooking up a cablecard to the pc was fairly painless and so far have had no issues using the htpc as my dvr/set top box. If anyone is interested in using windows media center as their primary dvr/channel guide feel free to ask questions here.

  2. I was finally able to order my fios today :)

Should be here Friday and my new htpc is ready to become a mega dvr.

*** got a foot of snow today lets see how committed verizon is to hooking up my fiber.

  3. I'm pretty tired of people crying about sprint and empty promises. With NV they are delivering in a big way and is NOTHING like the wimax rollout which they had no control over. I also don't recall sprint promising wimax to anyone outside of announced markets. The most I heard was people saying their rep promised it was coming but we all know what that is worth.

  4. according to sprint you get the one time courtesy of upgrading while on old plan. The next time you upgrade they will try to make you switch unless you purchase outright.. so i am told

They would need to put out a press release of some kind before they make this type of change.

At the very least we would see a leak of internal documentation.

What exactly do you mean by 'according to sprint'? If its from a store or chat rep that means nothing.

  5. Im with you on this 100% but i have worked for Sprint before and know one thing from that experience. People don't want to have to go through so much research just to get a phone. They expect all of there questions to be answered at a Sprint store by reps. They use coverage maps to determine when which carrier they will go to. They expect to have 4g data off the back if they have a 4g phone and they expect to get what you pay for. Spooning and feeding the customer is a big reality and is not going anywhere anytime soon. Point is I was once one of those customers and a lot of others here also. 1. Carriers coverage maps are to exaggerated confusing the customer. 2. Customers want what there phone is capable of aka 4g without having to wait with no estimated time of completion. 3 Get what you pay for which means if your paying 160 a month you should be able to do a google search with 4 full bars of service and service shouldn't be better when you first got service then a year later it goes to the can. 4. Reps should know what they are talking about and if not they should not be working there. I left Sprint retail because how do you sell a device when you can't load a web page and competitor's could. The only thing most people have a good idea about is what kind of phone they want and that's it. Iphone for example. Do you really think they would care or know if it is single band or not? Do you think they even care if it was 4g lte or not? They sell millions regardless because customers are uniformed and don't care as long as fb, instagram and twitter works. Truth is most customers don't know and don't care how the carrier works if its going to be complicated for them to understand they just want a carrier that works.

Like the dave said if people don't want to do their research its on them. Never ask the salesman which product is the best.... you should know the answer before walking in to the store.

  6. Not really much to add after reading 10 pages. Thanks to everyone for their input it really helps being able to look at the situation from all sides. I have always been for a tmo sprint merge and am happy to see that it still may happen.

The best thing that could happen is to open up the n5 (g2, gs4, note3 etc)  to use all tmo bands in addition to sprint. the tech is already here and vzw / att could not match that kind of flexibility.

  7. Unless of course you live in a housing community.

No housing community here. They came by on Monday and hooked up the two dangling cables down by the main road. The splicing truck was back so hopefully we are getting close now.

  8. I been checking everyday to see if I can sign up :)

Down by the main road there are two cables dangling down that look like they need to be hooked up. I think they are going further down the road with the main line and then will come back and hook up the neighborhoods.

  9. The fiber truck is moving closer :) It is a splicing truck. Not sure how it all works but I assume the fiber has been placed and it is connecting the lines together. This line will also run right past  my 3g accepted sprint tower.

  10. So for the last few months there have been lots of cable trucks running line up and down route 20 from Albany to Guilderland (New York). Oddly enough they stopped just past my neighborhood and now for the last couple weeks verizon has had trucks all over including up to three or four on my street at one time. One of the trucks about a mile down the road is clearly marked as fiber optic and appears to be monitoring the network install. They were hard at work past five last night which makes me think they are almost done.

So if they are finally bringing fios to my area I guess I just need to know if there is any reason not to sign up on day one? Time Warner is very expensive but does provide a good service as long as you don't need any help from them. In a way I hate to give verizon any of my money but from what I have seen fios is a good deal and should be supported.

  11. When did it become nearly impossible to request your MSL?  Two reps so far have said they can't give it to me because my line is under contract, and one just said I had to talk to tech support because it's a technical code.  If they're trying to keep the MSL so people can't unlock their phones and go to another network or some technically-incorrect reason, all they're doing is pushing me to ETF and get the f- out.  All I want to do is to enable B41.

Is there some secret handshake that I need to use?

I thought someone posted instructions a few pages back how to get msl.

chat worked fine for me first try.
