  1. It will change if the market wants it to change, and even then it won't happen overnight.  The north american market is totally different from the rest of the world.  These companies want their customers locked in, whether through a service contract or a device contract.

The main problem is that reps have no authority to restrict sales to only contract or ezpay customers.

At least with ezpay is you can just pay it off immediately after signing up... however it is an inconvenience.

  2. Sprint or any other carrier for that matter doesn't really make that much money(if any at all) by selling a device outright. They make their money by getting people to sign contracts and if commissions are made I am sure its based on the contract and not the device.

Yeah but contracts are only for old plans. This way of thinking needs to change.

  3. Don't really care about the flip phones but my smartphones were:

    Moto mpx200 (at&t) flip smartphone :)

    htc dash (t-mobile)

    htc mogul (sprint)

    htc touch pro (sprint)

    htc touch pro2 (sprint)

    htc imagio (verizon)

    htc droid incredible (verizon)

    htc evo 3d (sprint)

samsung galaxy s2 epic 4g touch (sprint)

    samsung galaxy nexus (straight talk)

    samsung galaxy s4 (sprint)

    lg nexus 5 (sprint)

The incredible was one of my favorite phones ever and used it the longest, almost 2 yrs. Of course it was my first android which was quite a departure from windows mobile.

  4. Considering most phone manufacturers are on a ~1 year cycle for new devices, the demand is definitely there. Both Apple and Samsung release a new flagship once per year, and that covers a massive percentage of phone sales.

Unfortunately these phones are not released on a 12 month cycle. Iphone has only done this once although they have been much more consistent then samsung. Still you could easily be waiting 13 or 14 months before that new phone comes out.

  5. We are witnessing plan b.. Tmo is raising prices and apparently getting rid of corp discounts (that remains to be seen)

While sprint is lining everything up to go head to head with the big 2... Yes the end game is Tmo and sprint somehow.

** instead of plan b maybe I should say taking a different route

I think this is all part of plan A which includes a T-Mobile merge along with rural partnerships. Once everyone is compatible and financially dependent it makes even more merges likely in the future.

  6. As I have said already, if you go for unlimited data, you can upgrade once a year on easypay with framily

This is not an 'upgrade'. It is simply selling your phone back to sprint for the amount of your balance.

Using that term confuses people who are used to the subsidized upgrade model.

In most cases selling your phone privately will be a better deal + the odds of wanting a new phone at precisely 1 year is pretty low which makes it even worse.

Honestly I don't see why they add the unlimited requirement to do this as it really only benefits sprint.

  7. My N5 is acting the same way down in Binghamton. No actual acceptances (For the entire upstate ny market!) but it's definitely connecting, in the same way you described off of LTE. I hope we see something on the maps soon.

I have found some in Albany as well. Looking at the map you can see 800 acceptances coming in from the east and south... I suppose they could be coming this way :)

  8. I understand that Easy Pay is a financing plan for buying or upgrading a new phone. I'm not interested in financing.

I found some more details from Sprint: "

    • If you are a customer in Sprint's Easy PaySM or One UpSM programs, you are required to sign a month to month Service Agreement, but the customer will not be subject to a plan term commitment or ETF. Note: Easy PaySM and One UpSM customers who cancel service prior to the completion of the installment agreement will be required to pay the remaining balance on the applicable device."

Aside from Easy Pay, aren't you required to sign a contract for voice and data service in order to use your phone? And thus the contract term and ETF issues. Can you do a Framily plan month-to-month?

Yes, Framily is month to month.

Easy Pay works this way. You buy a phone and pay tax in store, and if you have an ASL, you pay a down payment on the phone. Then, the balance of the device is set up on a no interest payment plan for 24 months. You can pay that off early if you like, or you can keep it going for 24 months. If you pay $20/mo for unlimited data, then you get annual upgrades. If you upgrade annually, then you trade the phone in and payments are relieved for the other 12 months and you start all over. Im not sure if you can pay off the device financing and keep the phone when you upgrade at 12 months or not. A Sprint employee has to clarify that part.

At 12-23 months you have the option of turning in your phone and buying new, or paying it off and keeping it.

  9. I was at a Sprint Corporate store and a rep told me that with Easy Pay Sprint is going to be getting rid of contracts and ETF's (like T-Mobile). Also, they said that I could upgrade my phone every 12 months as long as I traded in my old phone. All I had to do was pay full retail for the phone or choose a financing plan.

Sprint getting rid of contracts and ETFs is news to me.

From the FAQ's: "Does Sprint Easy PaySM require an Installment Agreement?

... Additionally, the customer is subject to the terms of the selected service and is required to sign a month to month Service Agreement, but the customer will not be subject to a term commitment."

Can anyone clarify the Easy Pay details for me?

There have been many posts/threads discussing this over the past few months.

What specifically about easy pay has you confused?

  10. I must say today on the phone with sprint was the worst. I had a hard time getting them to credit me the 30 on each line that was charged $55. I was nice about it at 1st but the lady refused to fix it and said she will escalate it to a super! will this took the cake.

30 minutes later he called me and said you have a issue with your bill? and i explained how my lines should only be billed $25 a month cause i have 9 lines of service. He then got smart and read me the plan about $55 for the 1st line then $50 for the second line $45 for the 3rd etc etc etc. He then had the nerve to tell me that only lines 7-10 get $25 the rest of the lines have to pay 55 50 45 40 35

HE EVEN HAD THE NERVE TO SAY HOW COULD I EXPECT TO GET 9 LINES OF SERVICE FOR 25 EACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wELL I TOLD HIM I WAS GLAD THE CALL WAS RECORDED cause i went off on him. He was being a smart ass at 1st but then was so totally clueless. PLEASE i really need to work there. I am so tired of knowing more about sprint then even lead account managers there.

Can you imagine him tell me only lines 7-10 get it for $25 the rest will have to pay 55 45 40 etc. I told him what if all 9 of us were alone who would decide who pays 55 and who pays 25? he then said it would go by who signed up 1st!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and that the people who sign up 7-10 are the ones who get it for $25 I FINALLY ENDED THE CALL WITH IF THIS IS REALLY RECORED please take this guys job as being a esculation manager cause he does not deserve it and i hung up and called back.

Sprint wants to know why people who have been with them for 14 years leave? all you got to do is talk to this account manager who is lucky to have a high paying job and be clueless at the same time.

Wow I'm surprised this is still here. Staff must be sleeping...

Honestly if the rep doesn't know what they are doing simply hang up and try again.

  11. I think everything is progressing nicely. As much as we want backhaul competed there isn't a whole lot they can do about it.

Would not do much good to pull everyone in to one area if they would all be sitting around waiting for permits.

What they can do is rush 800 voice and lte on completed sites to help fill in some of the gaps.
