  1. Just picked up my sprint N5 from best buy.. Came with SIM inserted with the ICCID on the box..opted for buy vs upgrade and best buy price matched googles price of 349.... Just finished the 125mb update...

Does your Sprint version from Best Buy come with Voicemail or any "bloatware"?  Just curious.

Best news I have heard ALL DAY!!!

    I may head there now.

  3. If you're going to stay with Sprint, you might as well get the phone for $200-$300 cheaper by renewing your contract or signing a new one. Cheap phone is the added bonus.

This... Why not let Sprint pay for $200 of this phone?

I would look at resell prices and what sprint charges then buy the phone that nets you the largest difference then use that to buy a play store nexus 5 and pocket what's left over. Do the math and it might be worth your while.

Lynyrd65 nailed it.  Why "waste" your upgrade on a device that only retails for $350 from Google Play.  It's all about cost of money, right?  My plan is to purchase this off contract, sell my current device and then still be eligible for an upgrade next year if I choose to be.  If you are going to lock into another two years with a phone, it should be for the most bang for your buck possible, right?  Not to say the N5 isn't  great device, but you never know what is around the corner.  There is already quite a bit of talk about 64 bit processors for early / mid next year.

  4. They must be ready to flip the 4g or at least the NV 3g switch in Clintonville (and Grandview), right? Please!!! Because that's what I've been telling myself after suddenly experiencing 1x almost exclusively over the past two days in places where I routinely have been getting 3g for years (even if it has been often unusable 3g for six months now).

In other news, I've been getting LTE for a few seconds, only in the mornings, for several months now in central Clintonville, when close to Indianola (and therefore I-71). I think it's only due to the 3g signal being markedly poorer in the morning than later in the day, when I usually have full "bars" (sorry don't have any real numbers, I've never figured out how since switching from Android).

Welcome to the forums, if you can donate even a modest amount you will not be disappointed.  For instance, we currently have a market map of all of the sites with updates / in progress status shown.

We don't have a lot of eyes in that area scoping the towers out, so maybe you can help us with that.  Take a look at Coz signature or the link: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/3906-how-to-spot-sprint-antennas-and-rrus-samsung-style/ to help identify 1900 sites in our market.  How close are you to Riverside hospital?

As for signal strength download a program called Signal Check Lite (referred to here as SCP, this is the pro version which costs about $2).  It will not only tell you your 1X voice strength, but also your 3g and LTE signal when you have it.

Thanks for all of your help.

  5. I have Sprint Nexus 5s sitting in my cabinet at my Best Buy.

Any chance you guys are going to price match the Play Store?  I purchased my last two phones from Best Buy with their buyback program, but refuse to pay an extra $100 just because...

  6. Hmm, so it looks as if we've hit a small lull in the progress they were making.

No new accepts since the 31st.  Which, was pretty normal over a month ago, and we got spoiled.  hopefully things will pick back up soon?

You may want to check the Columbus Spreadsheet thread, I believe you will find some relatively good news...

  7. If you do not want to wait at Google Play, Best Buy will have the 16 GB Nexus 5 available on the November 8 street date next week for the off contract low price of $800.  Woot woot!

Can they really be serious about this...?  What a joke.  I was really hoping to use my trade-in from my Evo towards the Nexus 5. Now it looks like I'll have to wait another three to four weeks and order from the play store.  What a mess.

EDIT: This is also $100 more than the iPhone 5S... bleh.

  8. I work off of E. Broad st by Mt. Carmel East and typically can't hold a call or at best hold the call and catch about 1/2 of the conversation.  The last few days I haven't dropped a call and they've been clear which makes me wonder if I'm connecting to 800.  Any other way to confirm other than signal check pro? I noticed thru lite that I'm picking up eHRPD which I don't recall seeing the last few weeks.

SCP vs. SCL should still show 1X800 I believe...?  Does your 1X connection just say 1X?  You should be able to scroll back thru this topic to find a screenshot of SCP with 1X800.

  9. There is a crew up on the Americana Parkway tower off Tussing for at least the 5th time in 2 weeks.

That tower is over due big time!  That area is known for awesome cell service / reception and just HORRIBLE data coverage.  I can't wait for LTE in that area.

  10. So random question.... I know the current 3G seems to top out around 2.5 mbits.  What kind of speeds should we expect on the upgraded 3G?  Or would it be roughly the same, but just have larger capacity?

2.5 Mbps is still the max speed for 3G, however, as you noted the capacity will be larger for each site. The other advantage is slightly greater coverage due to NV panels.  Also, most legacy sites struggle either due to aging equipment or old T1 lines.  So, we should receive MUCH more consistent speeds and latency.  Latency which of course has a HUGE impact on quality of service.

  11. No, was on my way to Tim Hortons :) On my way back my phone went off again saying it got the 4G signal again. When I go out for lunch and I'll head north on Sawmill, I'll map it

I would think it would be from the nearest tower around Manning Parkway, but we have all three serving cells from that tower and 455 is NOT one of them.

    Appreciate all of the help.

  12. Finally got an Lte engineering screenshot here at sawmill and summit view

First glance. I don't know if we have that site recorded. Maybe new.

Just checked the spreadsheet again and I don't see any 455 serving cells...

Were you able to do any sensorly mapping?

  13. Looks like you were connected to an Airave for voice. You probably picked up one of the LTE towers by Polaris briefly. But with that signal, hard to verify.

I second that, especially with 118 dB.  'Enginerring' (gets me every time...) screen would confirm it, the next time you get it see if you can pull that up.

  14. Ok, ok.  That's fair.  I am the worlds biggest cheap @$$.  People who know me, know I am slow to put money to anything.

But good information ain't truly free.  So here I go.

Make sure to check out all of Coz' links including the Market Map and Spreadsheet.  I think you'll find the information to be well worth the money.

    Thanks for your support!

  15. In Samsung markets you just make up three numbers that aren't the same on two sites that a device could see both at the same time. This is the Physical Cell Identity.

For the GCI, they are numbered sequential in most cases by site ID. Some GMO's are skipped. The last two digits are the sector number when converted to HEX. Samsung seems to use 00, 01, 02 and these are unique in the system. Hence the name Global Cell Identity. Once enough of these are found COZisBack can figure them out before the site fires up.

If he's in Lewis Center it's a new site. Some sites in our market share Serving Cell IDs but they're far enough away from each other to not cause interference.

Thanks for the thorough explanation.  As usual from you both.  Nothing like learning on a Friday night, :D.

  16. Others use imgur.com, imageshack, Dropbox, etc to host pics. Thanks for punching in the numbers. I see that 213 on a site on the sheet but I am a other sure if that is close to you and the cell identity code is not filled out on the sheet to confirm. Might be the first LTE HEX ID to put on COZisBack's sheet.

The 213 tower that you are referring to is on the Southwest side of the market in Grove City.  I would think there is no way this could be the same tower.  How do the IDs work between towers again?

  17. No, not quite.  Clearwire has broken up each market into two phases.  Phase 1 are the highest capacity sites.  Phase 2 are the rest.  All of the Phase 1 Clearwire WiMax sites in Columbus have been upgraded to include Band 41/TD-LTE 2600.  Not all of the WiMax sites are complete in the market, just Phase 1 sites.  They will not begin Phase 2 in Columbus for a few more months.

    Robert

I appreciate the clarification.  I wasn't trying to pry for more information, just trying to understand how much coverage to expect.  Really appreciate all that you do!  Thanks again!

  18. Nope. I'm so sure I will guarantee you'll find TD-LTE somewhere in Cincinnati, Cleveland, St. Louis, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Houston,  Nashville, and Austin in addition to the previous known cities that have soft launched.

Wow, tri-band phones can't come soon enough.  I must admit the Columbus market LTE rollout has been slow.  It's almost more painful knowing that the towers are going up and being worked on / in progress.  To up and find out the entire market is up and running is quite frankly better than Christmas!

I'm looking at FreedomPop to purchase a hotspot and can't seem to find out how to change the device.  When I put in my address, I believe it thinks I'm only eligible for 3g and therefore it comes with an Overdrive...:(
