  1. All I have to say is what a day... I haven't dropped so many calls in my life.  I dropped at least three into work from 161 to Westerville.  Dropped another half dozen on my way to Ohio University and dropped a solid 4-5 more on the way back directly to the house cutting thru the Pickerington area.  1X 800 cannot come soon enough.  That was brutal.  Talked to a Sprint rep just for the hell of it.  "Columbus market will be launched in 4-6 weeks, 6 weeks max."

Ha.  If he only knew as much as we do about the NV upgrades...

  2. Not sure if anyone had reported on this one yet, but this is a nearby tower that I noticed today happened to get some additions! It's the tower on the far south end of Brice Rd near Northbend Dr. No backhaul, and I can't tell if there are cabinets or not (can only see one side of the site, and there's a big shed in the fence). :/

Good find, but it appears that this site was found by amcferrin90 on 8/20.  Good picture though.

  3. Yes but Nextel used to be on it.... Could be Longshot but possible if the contractor said was doing Sprint upgrades...

Here's to hoping, that area is always a dead zone.  Usually good signal, but terrible data speeds.

  4. Can anyone confirm if the tower on the exit ramp at 256 & 70 carries sprint? I spoke with a climber yesterday that said he was here from out Iof town installing Sprint LTE in the area and that tower was near complete. Sure enough while driving by this morning, there is 2 guys dangling about 1/2 up the tower.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I had always thought this was a Sprint tower only to find out that it is T-Mobile and every other vendor known to man.  It does not show up as a Sprint tower on the sponsors map, I believe the signal comes from behind the Tim Horton's on 256.  That tower could definitely be close to up and running.  Anyone around the area that can go check it out?

  5. You do still receive NVP discounts on my way plans, just not on the all in my way plan. (simply everything w/ 5gb hotspot) Which is the same as is was before. The difference is, your discount now comes off the data plan ($30 or $20 per phone) as opposed to receiving your discount off the primary line on a family plan. This does end up netting a smaller discount unless you have more than 4 phones with unlimited data. The new plans, however, will end up being more expensive because of the higher cost per line even after receiving your discount on 3+ phones. Make sense?

That makes sense and I appreciate you posting this.  In talking with Sprint chat, she mentioned specifically that the discount would no longer apply and that is why my bill would actually increase making it a bad move.  I'm currently on a 1500 minute family plan and wanted to move to an unlimited my way plan.  I'm not complaining about how much I pay, (Sprint's rates are simply good, especially with a 20% discount) I just really wanted to make the switch for the guarantee of unlimited data forever.  I'm nervous, scratch that paranoid, that I will wake up one day and no longer have unlimited data.  Quite honestly that is the major reason why I'm still with Sprint.  Thanks again.

  6. Interestingly enough, my wife's phone (also an Evo LTE) will not connect using 800 at all. It's sitting right next to mine. I guess it's 1900 mHz signal is good enough...

Maybe airplane mode?  From my understanding, it is similar to 4G.  If your phone is currently using the connection it won't switch.  Even background Gmail checking or other auto sync's may cause it.

  7. Fifty-one sites with 1900 Mhz  3g sounds encouraging.. it'll make things a lot more useable

Sounds encouraging, but to confirm that doesn't necessarily mean backhaul improvements, correct?  I.E. 3G upgrades mean new RRUs and cabinets but possibly the same slow speeds... :'(

  8. It's also looking as if a site is not 3G accepted already as of today, it will not be activated with LTE by the end of 2013. There will be a good amount of LTE but will not be a benefit to inside the outerbelt. Don't give up your WiFi yet Columbus. :wall:

Ouch... Three more months, I would have expected more movement.  Oh well, I guess.

  9. Just drove around there tonight. The tower on Rohr Rd has RRU's, antennas, base cabinets and fiber rough in complete. May not be too long. Quick! to the WIP thread (mobile)!!

Besides the site near Diley Road, I didn't see any other active NV work in the area.

If you put this in the Columbus permit thread or the sponsor forum with the site id we can update the spreadsheet. Thanks for the update!

I wonder which tower you are connecting too... The tower right next to I-270 is the one I connect to at work and it has the same old coverage / speed.  In our building, I'm lucky to get one bar for most of the office.  I can't wait for 800 to get accepted on this tower.

  11. Looking at the maps, our lte sites are LTE only, no NV 3g or 800 yet, am I looking at that correct?

    Yes, you are correct.

NV stuff. Appears to be consistent.

Where are you getting these speeds?  Do you know what tower you connect to?

    Thanks.

  12. I was just looking at Sensorly and there's a ton of purple lit up from along the south 70/71 split down 71 to 270 and around to Alum Creek Drive. There's no way that one site is feeding that whole area. Especially the 70/71 split along Livingston Avenue because along that section freeway there's high ground and buildings on either side of the freeway. That's exactly how I go home. I may get overexposed to LTE radiation...

Unfortunately, if you look at the Morse Rd tower it had quite a bit of reach as well... I bet this is only the one new tower in Grove City... :(

  13. I definitely did my part today.  I wasn't able to snag engineering screens, was on a conference call while driving around, but I mapped an easy 400-500 points from Stringtown down Jackson Pike.  I'll re-iterate, I can't wait for LTE in my area.

  14. An AT&T guy in my office today working on some T1 circuits.  I was BS'ing with him and asked him about fiber.  He said he works on it and there's a whole crew in town that does nothing but fiber for Sprint recently.  He said they just installed one yesterday at a tower and I tracked it down to be  (270 & Georgesville Rd on SW side).  He said they are installing them all over the place in town for them like crazy recently - said it takes nearly a whole day just to install/provision the equipment once the fiber is ran to the site..  Good sign though!

Can't use site IDs on public page.  May want to remove that.

  15. My office is in Westerville and I noticed quite a few signal / drop call issues yesterday but figured it was a fluke.  It appeared that the S. Street tower is the one that appeared down.  The one on Lauffer is what I was jumping onto, but I'm simply too far away for usable signal.  Words cannot describe how excited I am about 1X 800...

I meant to add, I won't hold my breath until thenight84 is able to confirm it, :).

  16. Our conversation was 3G/800 related.

Obviously, these dates are projected, but they are straight off the outage reports the Sprint tech had available to him. The was a 2nd level tech, btw, not first line support.

He assured me by the end of the week I would be very happy with my service. He gave me his direct line to contact him and advised he would contact me on Friday to make sure I was happy with the results.
