  1. They can always add a second RRU and antenna per sector right now without waiting for CDMA shutdown.
  2. If I am not mistaken Sprint can't do 4x2 MIMO on PCS due to transmission path sharing with 1x/EVDO.
  3. They have added a second PCS carrier in very few markets, but the pattern has been to deploy band 26 first collocates with band 25. Eventually they will of course refarm all PCS A-spectrum for LTE.
  4. The correct way is to density your bread and butter Midband frequency. Then overlay with lower band for coverage/penetration. Sprint did not have another mid band besides G to deploy on so they had to use SMR for both capacity and to hide the fact that their network wS poorly spaced for band 25.
  5. They are doing the correct way which is an overlay. Spint needed LTE 800 for capacity because of the lack of available mid band spectrum
  6. They overlapped in a very few areas. Their spectrum and networks were complementary.
  7. I am certainly happy the oldguard is out. They were so afraid to spend money that they let the network run down. I blame Hesse and the old board mostly! No vision, no strategy!
  8. Some of us wanted Sprint to boost their mid band spectrum by acquiring Metro and Leap/Cricket and deploy LTE on the AWS spectrum they partnered with the cablecos. I still think they made a big mistake.
  9. For the 6:3 configuration that sprint uses, a 40MHz slice has the same download bandwidth as a 24MHz FDD slice.
  10. No body wants to buy T-Mobile except Sprint. Dish cannot afford to pay all cash and DT will prefer all cash from Dish. DT will not help T-mobe with the 600Mhz auction ant it wll take many many billion to play in that ball pit. So DT and TMobile and the analysts are inventing suitors.
  11. That's why, cheapies ps not withstanding, Sprint and Tmobile should at least share a network and be allowed to joint bid in the upcoming auction. Given the sheer size of this country, Sprint and T-Mobile should at least be allowed to share infrastructure if not outright merge. BTW, I drove between Angwin, CA and Winters, CA yesterday. No signal on AT&T for about 45-50 miles. I have to admit it was a beautiful mountain drive, but man was I panicking!
  12. They kept their FIOS in the Notheast/NY. The most lucrative properties..
  13. It's not that they are converging. It's just that increasing amounts of video are OTT. That's why Verizon launched their service, that's why Dish launched their service. If increasing amounts of OTT video is getting watched on tablets and phones then it makes sense to own or be a partner in a wireless network. That's why a Cable/Sprint tie up makes sense. Cable presumably has the licenses/content and Sprint has the network or will have it.
  14. Dish cannot afford Sprint for couple of reasons. First is Sprint's high debt load, not the stock price. Second, they can't borrow too much more when they themselves have a pretty high debt load. So it would have to be a merger. Or even better a partnership.
  15. While SoftBank has not contributed greatly to Sprint's finances by directly injecting cash, they have allowed Sprint to borrow money at lower rates.
  16. Dish in the end really wanted Clearwire and the vast troves of 2.5 GHz spectrum. They want Sprint. I still think that a partnership of Dish/Sprint would be beneficial to both. If only they can learn to play nice with each other. So far it has been a war of leaks !
  17. It would not surprise me at all. He probably is so cheap that he does not want to pay millions of $ to investment bankers to advise him.
  18. So if that comes to pass, where does it leave Dish? Will they come crawling to Sprint to host their spectrum? What will Sprint ask for? Dish is not flush with cash. PCS H to begin with? Free video for Sprint customers? Let's be creative about this!
  19. I guess DT isn't as keen to merging with Dish as Dish is, according to Fiercewireless. They definitely like to merge with Sprint, though or Comcast. They would also like to jointly bid with Sprint in the upcoming auction! Now Dish, shoo, shoo.... ???? http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/report-dt-ceo-not-keen-t-mobiledish-merger-holds-out-hope-sprint-deal/2015-06-09
  20. So $49B if there is a merger and $49B + 35B if there is an acquisition.
  21. Spectrum screen comes in when the combined companies own 1/3 or more of the total spectrum available in a market!
  22. If this were to pass, it will give the combined entity approximately 166MHz average spectrum depth. What will happen to Dish's 700MHz spectrum. Could they buy ATT's Block D and then use it as a supplemental downlink in a carrier aggregation scheme?
  23. That leaves PCS H and an adjacent 5Mhz downlink slice orphaned. I think my suggestion of selling PCS H to Sprint is very viable.
