  1. Just for the iPhone guys.

Whenever you connect to band 41 check out the plmnid and the number of TX antennas.

Old clear equipment will broadcast 2x2 Mimo on 311-490/870 while sprint will broadcast 4x2 mimo on 310-120 which means the number of TX antennas that'll show on your engineering screen will be 4.

That'll be the easiest way to identify if you're connected to the new 2.5 Equipment for the iPhone ppl.

What if I'm on band 41 and that field is blank? My down/up bandwidth are both 20 MHz.

  2. Just a follow up on this for anyone who is interested: I talked to a Sprint rep via support chat. She was very thorough, and made sure to reset and update everything on their end, my end, etc.

Ultimately, after quite awhile confirming it was nothing wrong with my account and such, she was then able to let me know that this is a known issue that both Sprint and Apple are aware of and are working on a fix.

I asked it it was nationwide, and she said she assumed it was because she was able to confirm that Apple was aware of the problem and working on it.

I regularly get well over 1MB upload on speed tests on my iPhone 6, so thankfully not all Sprint users are affected.  Maybe it's a Band 25 bug?  I seem to mostly be on Band 41 nowadays.

  3. Very true, but like jamisonshaw said, a lot of people don't know how to do stuff like this on iOS.  Now what I am about to say is extremely stereotypical, but I don't care...  A lot of apple users go to iOS because it is supposed to work as is.  Most in this ecosystem like it because they don't have to tinker with things to get them to work better or to customize it to their needs.

Android tends to get a lot more of the technical customers that know how, or at least figure out how to deal with restores, flashing of firmware, ROMs, etc.

I like both worlds, but unfortunately a lot of people are going to have a very hard time letting this mistake go.  I won't...  I read the forums and waited to update, but I hope there is a quick fix in store for those non-technical users that can't use their phones for phone calls anymore.

It's hard to say how many actual people were affected by this.  It only happened to brand new iPhone 6 and 6+ users.  I was never even prompted to install the update on my 6, so I didn't even know there was an 8.0.1 update until I saw that it was out and had issues.

However many it was, it's unfortunate because affected and unaffected users alike are going to think twice before installing 8.0.2 whenever it arrives.

  4. I'm not sure why mapping isn't supported, the CoreTelephony API in iOS 7 gives access to the carrier name, signal strength (though it's in "bars" rather than RSRP) and access to the type of data connection (1X, EVDO, LTE). It wouldn't be a perfect solution, but still better than nothing.

Yeah this is what RootMetrics does.  It's not as granular as Sensorly, but it's the best we have for iOS.

  5. Apparently some apps just don't see the third party keyboards as well.

It's not like Apple to half-ass anything, but this is frustrating to be honest.

To be fair, tweetbot on iPad hasn't been updated to iOS 7/8 look for a while.

  6. Anyone else having a problem with aftermarket keyboards do not appear or "stick"?

I have swiftkey installed, and depending on the application, it will either load a lousy default Apple keyboard, or Swiftkey.

Kinda annoying that I have to keep going to the settings whenever texting to switch keyboards.

I had to turn off Swiftkey because it wouldn't work with Tweetbot. I've seen somewhere that you can't use third party keyboards for passwords for security reasons.

  7. Even though they are shot with an iPhone being a professional photographer makes all the difference.

I wish more people realized this.  It irks me when I get "oh your camera takes really great pictures" when I use my DSLR.  Yes, but you have to know how to use it or it's no better than a cell phone.

  8. So after further testing, answering cellular phone calls from your iPad does not require Bluetooth, but Handoff of apps does require Bluetooth.  Having Airplay on is not needed.

BTW, If you answer a call on your iPad, you can then go to your iPhone and tap Return to Call and it will finish the call back on your iPhone.

I can't wait for Yosemite and for SMS texting from your iPad and Mac.  That's going to be really nice.
