  1. That is not true. If a new contact is signed after 8/22 then it is 40.

So people currently in the middle of a two-year service agreement for a phone will be considered "non-discounted" in the new plan? I am skeptical based on the language at http://support.sprint.com/support/article/FAQs_about_Sprint_Family_Share_Pack/85ba5891-1b6a-4ebf-9f2c-e16eec3ce55f/?INTNAV=SU:SprintFamilySharePack:Wired:08182014:Learnmore

Obviously we'll find out for sure on Friday

  2. Just from quick observation, this plan would be awesome for my family. We have 4 devices and we could probably share 20GB or 32GB.

I currently pay $276 a month on Sprint. That's $120 for the 1500 Minute Everything Data plan. Then I get charged an additional $30 for each additional line after the primary line. One of my lines has a 2GB hotpot on it which is an additional 2GB per month. Each device also has TEP which is another $11 per month per device so that is an extra $44.

If I were to switch to the Family Share Pack with 32GB (which I can because I have 2 lines eligible for upgrade and you only need 1) I would pay $130 + ($15x4) + ($11x4) = $234

I'd save $42 and have tethering included. That sounds awesome to me.

My family never uses 32GB of data in a billing period. Most times, I find it hard to go above 6GB on my own and I use the most data out of everyone in my plan.

Note, if phones are not at the end of their contract yet, it is $40 per, not $15. Don't know if that affects your calculations or not.

  3. Don't the new plans require you to buy phones from Sprint with Easy Pay? I thought I read that somewhere... that you can't bring your own phone to that plan. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You can bring your own phone. In the graphic it says "Non-discounted: People who select Easy Pay, pay full price or bring their own phone"

  4. The new plans provide exactly what I have been hoping for: a way to save money once all my family members have fulfilled our contracts. Right now we pay $180 for three lines on a grandfathered ED 1500 plan. Once we have all finished our 2 year contracts, we could switch to the 20GB family share and cut our monthly bill to $145. Then just buy used phones off swappa.

  5. Uh, folks, before you go all apeshit on this plan, have you viewed the table that Ian posted on a previous page? For clarity, I will repost it here:

Examine the three bulleted conditions for migrating existing accounts. Many of you can meet just one those conditions. And that is all you need. So, do not be so rushed to judgment.

    AJ

AJ how do you think we should reconcile that table with the answer in the FAQ:

I'm a current Sprint Customer. Can I get 20GB of high-speed data on up to 10 lines for $100/mo?

Current customers can get 20GB of high-speed data for up to 10 lines for $160/mo, but the promotional price of $100/mo applies only to lines that are switched from another carrier to Sprint.

  6.

But even so called hard core users need to be more philosophical about specs and benchmarks. Have we already passed that inflection point for at least the next few years?

    AJ

I think we have, in the sense that phones from late 2012 like the iPhone 5 (now 5c) and my phone, the Optimus G, are continuing to perform well enough that specs alone are not a compelling reason to upgrade. But I really would think twice before downgrading, that seems crazy. And these snapdragon 400 chipsets are actually behind the APQ8064 I am running with my 2 year old phone that I got for $160 off contract last summer.

  7. I used to rent a house on Lincrest Pl which is in the news basically every time it rains, it's right along McMullen creek and floods routinely. Happy to be on higher ground.

Can't speak to LTE, but still seems day to day if 1x800 is on or off in Charlotte. My sense is that it is really helpful for phone "strain" and should improve battery life and thermals. But it's not like I've tested anything scientifically.

  8. Your understanding of the framily discount is wrong. It comes off all data so if you have 6 lines with 20 unlimited data then its off 120.

Id imagine these plans would be the same and come off the data bucket. Thats also how Verizon and AT&T do it.

Thanks for clarifying! In my case it is three lines, so the new family plan would still beat the framily easily.

Edit: I am of course assuming 20GB is as good as unlimited for my family's purposes, that won't be true for everyone.

  9. I wonder how corporate discounts would be applied to these plans. Right now I get 23% off the $110 part of an everything data plan. My understanding is that on a Framily plan it would only be applied to at most one $20 unlimited data add-on. If the discount were on the whole data package, e.g. the $100 for 20GB, good deal.

  10. I'm surprised this was never answered. I guess it's hidden at the bottom of the page. Anyways, maybe for both questions. If optimization has not been done yet for 1x800, probably yes for both.

I would lean towards saying it's not optimized yet as it seems like we're in a pattern where it's on for a couple of days, then off again for a few days. And nothing on the S4GRU update list yet of course. So, could be good.

  11. I really hate to burst your bubble (and everyone in this thread that's not a premier), but North Carolina will not get any 800 LTE until further notice. Our state public safety organizations have been using spectrum inside of Sprint's 800 LTE range and successfully petitioned the FCC for a time extention to ease the transition to their own proper spectrum awhile back. The good news is that we will get LTE 800 at some point. The bad news is we don't know when. I've heard "end of Summer" tossed around, but it could be (and likely will be) longer than that.

But remember that Spark 2600 LTE is still going to light up very soon.

Mmm sounds like you're saying I can wait and see what the next Moto phone looks like before upgrading

  12. Seeing consistent 1x800 in my neighborhood now, south Charlotte close to Matthews. Signal is around -100. Will that be enough to allow us to ditch the airave? And do you think LTE-800 will reach out here judging by that signal strength?

  13. I am seeing 1x800 uptown now and some new BSL addresses. Have also seen 1x800 in the Cotswold area. Hopefully this will help with handoffs through elevators/parking garages. Does anyone have a phone with LTE 800 bands? I don't know if those are active yet (still on the Optimus G myself).

  14. I was looking at the coverage map for CLT on Sprint's website and it says the whole city has LTE. Also the sensorly maps show that, but I'm not sure why my phone connects to 3G more than haft the time even though I am outside.

I agree that the maps are borderline fraudulent in this city. Anything that says "fair" you should interpret as "no signal".

  15. This phone has held up really well. If it had the spark lte frequency bands I'd buy it again today.

  16. This has got to be the first sighting of 1x800 in NC...I have a buddy down there that has been bitching about voice signal for a little while, hopefully this will help relieve some areas.

Yes this is huge. Haven't seen anything yet myself but very hopeful
