  1. Screen is cracked on my LG G2 and considering M9 or Nexus 5X as replacements. They are similar physical dimensions, either one gets me up to marshmallow, M9 has great speakers and nexus speaker is reportedly awful. Camera... honestly my wife takes most of the pictures anyway. So, you people like this phone or what?

I believe the Stagefright correction involved multiple patches for multiple vulnerabilities discovered separately with the library. After the first one was fixed by Google and OEMs and carriers raced to issue the patch, other vulnerabilities were discovered. This patch may be to address those other issues.

    ....

Is there precedent for this? Do other Sprint handsets esp. G3 or G4 have a second update which addresses only stagefright related issues?

  3. ZVI changelog?

I don't know is there any way to look through the source to figure out what's in there? Probably a waste of time since we'll find out in a couple of days. My money is on new signal icon style... and nothing else

  4. Wait so Sprint released ZVH even though there is a ZVI build in the works?

Yeah, it looks like about a month lag between rdf posting and pushing the update, so we probably have a little ways to go before ZVI is ready

  5. Zvh is stagefright update. Zvi unknown. Signal icons and wifi calling are two possibilities that don't have to involve a 5.1 update

  6. The network vision upgrades helped a lot uptown, there is even service deep inside buildings now. But no progress in these residential neighborhoods (which are still within the city limits, not far-flung areas by any means). So I think a B sounds about right.

I don't get the 'Nexus 5X is overpriced' story. ... It is far better than the G2. It's far better than the previous N5...

As a G2 user, it's still kind of wait and see for me. What is better about the 5X? Camera? Battery? Screen? Speaker quality? Bezel size? Memory management? Fingerprint sensor?

Most of these are still unknowns. But bezel size is known, and is not an improvement.

  8. That's interesting and rather optimistic in a way. I still am encountering plenty of dead spots in the providence/Fairview/sardis areas, where the phone will drop to 3G and data will stall completely. But where I assumed it was just inadequate tower spacing, you guys think it can be solved by re-tuning? That would be swell

Just curious since it seems the Nexus 5X has gotten the most attention, is anyone here considering the Nexus 6P as a choice if for some reason the Nexus 5X disappoints?

I think if I decide to go big it will be the Note 5. I can't imagine the ergonomics and build quality for a big phone will get any better than that.

More likely I will stick with my G2 until sprint gets a red/orange 5x.

  10. The last several weeks, the 2015 Nexus rumors are for a Huawei or Xiaomi phablet and an LG handset. I wish that I could consider it news, but it is just widespread hearsay.

Android Police broke this story, and commits in AOSP were found by another party which reference an LG device "bullhead" (2013 Nexus 5 was "hammerhead"). So it's not just the scraper sites.
