  1. Anyone else having an outage right now? I'm in East Harlem, surrounded by a few macro sites, and have zero service. Not even 1X. Not even roaming. Power cycled my phone and nothing.

Edit: 1X is back after five minutes of no service. No LTE or eHRPD still. Just weird. Oh and as I'm typing this 1X data has disappeared.

Edit edit: it's interesting to watch... LTE appears for about 10 seconds and then everything goes out again, even 1X is gone. Down Detector shows lots some issues in the NYC area (and other areas nationally).

Similar issue on LI. Phone was on 3G so I cycled it on airplane mode. Now it's stuck on no service no matter how many times I cycle it. If I put my phone in CDMA mode only it connects to 3G no problem

    Edit: it's back now

  2. Candor, NY has LTE! This is/was a GMO site, came as a complete surprise to me driving today. Not sure if it went full build or GMO LTE, though.

Maybe this is indicative of the start of GMO conversions in the very rural upstate sites. There are a few other sites on rt96 that still need LTE but this is a great start.

I hope this is the start of something much bigger. There are way to many GMO site in the upstate NY markets

  3. I was at barclays center on Monday for an Islanders game and picked up Sprint B41 inside with a second carrier. Unfortunately i'm using my Nexus 6 until my G4 is fixed so no CA. But I was still able to pull 15-20mbps download and up 8-15mbps upload most of game. Dipped to 10-12mbps in between periods. Does anyone know if the stadium has a DAS or is there a macro site pointed right at it?

  4. As an occasional visitor to NYC, I was really impressed with the availability of signal in the subway this past weekend!

Every time I'm in the subway I am impressed by this. Although I think its only 5x5 B25 (there might be B26) I'm always hitting 10-15mbps. I just wish they had service in the east river tunnel for LIRR commuters. I believe only Verizon has service there. Sprint roams on 1x but now its roams on EDVO but I can never get the data to work. Im pretty sure ATT doesn't have service and of course T-mobile doesn't and they wouldn't be able to roam on ATT anyway. The main terminal of Penn Station has great 3G just waiting for that LTE upgrade.

  5. i hope sprint gets all the second carriers sorted out before rootmetrics comes to town for Q1 2016 report. I think they can really be #1 this quarter if they play there cards right. If not defiantly by Q2 2016. In my opinion the only thing potentially stopping them from achieving this is that rootmetrics also includes the surrounding areas where B41 isn't as dense as NYC and the boroughs. Hopefully increased deployment should increase soon with the weather warming up.

  6. must just be a map issue then. being a premier sponsor you can check our maps in the IA/NE threads to see where the towers are. trust me there is one there and it has 1x/EVDO and now LTE. and yeah it could use a full build conversion to get 1x800/B26 to help with coverage but its a low priority tower that just finally got LTE 3 years after all the full builds did around here, so its not going full build anytime soon.

yeah i can see the tower. what i was trying to say was there is a section of roaming along i-35 on sprints coverage map. I guess what your saying is sprints coverage map just isn't accurate. im just used to it overstating coverage not understating it.

  7. their coverage map hasn't updated yet, but there is a GMO tower just north of huxley, IA that just got accepted with LTE as a GMO last week. it fills in most of that gap, not all of it, but enough to make it better than it was.

The gap doesn't even show 3G coverage. So unless the map is inaccurate with the range of coverage this is a prime location for a new tower on a Nextel site. Or rebuild the surrounding GMO sites so they have B26 for farther range. the location more specifically is south of Huxley and north of Ankeny

  8. Do you mean western nassau, my cutoff seems to be Glen cove Rd in the parts of Nassau I frequent, I've seen second carrier on sites to the east. Only have an m8 so no ca but get 40-50 down on second carrier sites

Yeah, I meant Western nassau. The only CA site I had connected to in the past was by UA Westbury Stadium 12 off Brush Hallow Road. The site for Roosevelt Field Mall didn't have CA last time I checked, Im going to check later today to see if it changed.

CA is now live on the Freeport water tower off Babylon turnpike & New Hyde Park Road and LIE service Road & the site off Northern State exit 29a to the LIE West.

For those 3 sites I would only hit 15-20mbps now I hit 35-65mbps.

I pass a few other sites on my way to work but the signal is weak and short so no time to track CA

  9. Seems like Wimaxx in NYC was also stopping CA from being active in West Nassau County, Long Island. Got back from FL this Sunday so I missed all the NYC CA launching. But the 5 or so sites in LI that I connect to have increased speeds and show a secondary carrier in the engineering screen. The only time before I noticed CA was West of the Wantaugh State Parkway.  Signal Check Pro does't show the little 2 though. EARFCN are 41078 & 41276

I would love to get a some sort of community sourced mapping going as far as B41 towers for Long Island. I would have to start a thread in a premier sections. Any one interested in this?

  10. Might be alittle of topic but with the recent shut down of wimax in NYC do we know if there were any single mode Wimax sites that can now be switched over to LTE? I know most clear sites can do LTE and Wimax but do sites like this exist? If they do, I wonder if they will be replaced with new equipment first then turned back on with LTE or just turned on with one carrier of LTE

Also on my way home from work I monitored SCP while driving through queens. Of the 5 or so sites i connected to they still had the 39... EARFCN

  11. I've noticed that two sites I'm often connected to have stopped showing Sprint B41 in Signal Check and now say Clearwire B41. Adjustments in progress?

That would sort of be a downgrade, I think. Unless you are connecting to closer sites that only had WiMax beacuse it couldn't broadcast both signals but has been switched over to LTE remotely

  12. Anyone notice any weird issues with band 41. My home sites are periodically dropping down to band 26 when I disconnect from WiFi. I hope this is showing work is being done because its happening to two separate sites in my immediate vicinity.

This could be the start of work for CA Band 41 in NYC.

  13. I think Sprint should drop 1900 3G and 1x in NYC and depend on 1x800 for voice to allow for more 1900 LTE. Most phone support 1x800 so people would only be loosing 3G data if they didn't have a LTE phone. I think most 3G phones with 1x800 aren't smart phones so they could even use 1x800 for slower data. I'm sure Sprint doesn't want to take a hit for upgrading phones though. Anyone with an iPhone 4 or 4s would need to upgrade since they left out 1x800 even though ever sprint phone after had it.

And this could be done nation wide once all the border zoning and reframing is fixed for 800mhz which for voice only is much sooner then for LTE since it only requires 1.25x1.25

  14. I've been home since Friday but I've been out and about and have experienced a lot in terms of the network here. On Saturday I went to Roosevelt Field Mall (bad idea) and LTE was unusable. 3G on the other hand was perfectly fine. My mother's iPhone got kicked down to 3G on Verizon, and even that didn't work at all. Her calls would not go through and neither would her texts.

Today I've been driving around Brooklyn and the backhaul upgrades are apparent. In areas where I struggled to break 6 Mbps, I am getting speeds of around 16-17Mbps.

I also noticed something weird about my house. I get low speeds but super low pings. I actually managed to get a ping of 18ms with and average ping of about 28ms. Speeds on the other hand average about 3 Mbps at any time of day.

A tower right near Roosevelt field mall about 2 month ago received B41 with CA enabled. Speeds are over 30mbps normally. I am able to pick it up in a lot of places in the mall before switch to B25 and then B26 then 3G. 800x gets is amazing in areas where I never had service before like in the basement of some stores.

Im surprised LTE was completely unusable.

One problem I do have it that Apple has a DAS or microcell or repeater of some sort that when Im in or near the store all I receive is 1xRTT.
