  1. Does anyone know what the plan is with the second B25 carrier. Do they plan on deploying to everytower or just areas with congestions? Is it just a slow roll out like CA was and that's why we are only seeing it on a few towers at this time. I've seen it only a few timesin queens maybe 2 sites and mostly in Manhattan on 3-5 sites

  2. i was walking on madison ave and between 23rd st and 24th street there are two smalls cells. I wasn't connected to either and based on the Wimaxx site map they weren't old clear cells. I guess both ATT and Verizon are deploying small cells pretty rapidly too. I don't think I've seen anything about t-mobile using them in NYC but they deff have the most macro towers. One block over on 5th and 23rd street there is a clear site according to the map. I checked google street view and its deff a small cell.

I'm going to see if its been converted yet to LTE. I would think it is since its across from the flat iron building which has a Sprint store at the bottom.

Im going to use the old clear map to try and find other old clear sites that might have been converted or hopefully going to be.

edit: if anyone is there before monday let me know about it please

  3. I also went to B&H today and one of the first things you notice out side is the t-mobile store right across the street with huge Cell antennas on the room. they are basically on the roof of a one story building. The building behind it is about 3 stories and has what appears to be 2 different sets of antennas. The next thing I did was check my phone to see the signal. I was connected to an awesome B41 connection.  So then I went to S4GRU premier section to see Sprint site locations but Sprint didn't have a site here. I then check Nextel but nothing was there. Last I checked the Clear WiMax site locations and boom it was a hit. But why did Sprint swap out the Clear equipment that could handle LTE and use the new LTE B41 equipment for a B25/B26 only site. I guess its possible that they went ahead and did a full Sprint build there. I didn't think to drop down to 3G and I can't force my phone to B25 or B26 (LG G4). While I was trying to figure out which antenna belonged to who I notice another small cell on top of the light post on the corner. Could this be the Clear site that got convert? At this point I'm not sure cause it showed Sprint B41^2 on SCP and on all the other small cells it only shows Sprint.  Can anyone identify the equipment. I'm guessing its a safe bet to say the equipment on top of t-mobile is for t-mobile, they might own the property.

Heres a picture of all the antennas and my speed test.

  4. Here are the pictures and screen shots i promised earlier.

1st: small cell that isn't Sprint, I thought it was until found the Sprint one around the corner. Which is the reason i had a weak signal

(I'm including this to show how similar both look and its almost impossible to tell them apart. The city must require the unifrom case to hide the equipment.)

2nd: signal when i was near the wrong small cell.

3rd: The correct Sprint Cell on 34th and Park

4th: Speed test from right under the cell.

  5. I traveled from my home in Brooklyn out to the Walmart in Westbury and held LTE for the entire ride. Additionally, I visited some family out in Bay Shore and didn't drop LTE once. While it seems that most if not all of the sites shave been upgraded for LTE, Sprint could really use a more dense footprint because sometimes my phone would drop down to 1 or two bars before picking up again.

Band 26 has done wonders for creating cohesive coverage, but now Sprint needs to work on getting consistently strong coverage in these suburban areas and if the post above this indicated anything, it's that it should be coming soon!

Majority of sites have b25/b26. The remain 3g only sites are primarily stelth sites. There are a few other that just have ancient hardware on them. They need more macro sites to till in suburban neighborhood gaps. The more retail areas need small cells and neighbouring macros with B41.

  6. Yes. A lot of Clear small cells have been converted by Nokia and Sprint! That plus sprints own new deployment will yield approximately 200 small cells in NYC by the end of summer with hundreds more to come.

are these cell more aim towards people on the street and ground level in buildings or do they have vertical range to for people higher up in buildings. either way it will relieve the stress on macro cells and remove congestion.

  7. It's 58th and park. Just found it on Gmaps.

yepp thats its, the google street view is from september 2015 and i see a box and antenna on the poll but the placement and size is different, im guessing this was a clear wimaxx mini cell.

edit: doesn't show up in the maps on this site but one does for 59th and park, maybe thats its.

  8. one thing to take into account when running speed test make sure to try different servers. I find that the auto selected servers are way more bogged.

Yes i've noticed that as well, they select the best on based on ping. I usally see like 29ms ping and speeds at like 1-3mbps on auto select, if i switch to my perfect servers like towerstream, or optimum, the ping goes up to like 35 but the speeds will double.

  9. Just got some information about 2 small site being planed for Rockville Centre NY. there was planing for 2 small cells in March but nothing has been done since. PM me if you want to know the locations. That's all I know. The placement is perfect, can't wait to see these install and turned on. They are well needed for the area.

  10. This looks like park Ave midtown.

gonna have to explore for it, i work on 33rd between park and madison. I've noticed major congestion all over midtown from like 29th street to 38th between 7th and park ave.  im always on clearwire B41 someones a second carrier or CA and i never pass 5mbps download. hopefully sprint swaps these site out for 8T8R Sprint B41 so they can have a 3rd carrier and a 4th carrier when the time comes.

  11. After 2 failed attempts at trying to get an answer about the DAS at Penn Station I finally got an answer, I hope its correct. I'll keep an eye on the antennas that are visible in Penn, I'm curious if the current ones can handle LTE or if the existing wiring can. IF the DAS is actually updated to B25, B25, and B41 it would 100% put Sprint as the best provider in Penn since all other carriers just have Macro sites pointed into the station.
