  1. According to the new map update there is a tower along the beltline in Madison accepted as of yesterday (I hope this is vague enough for the public forums), and another one in progress. Has anyone been out to test those yet? I would, but I'm still on a WiMax device until LTE is more prevalent.

Whether or not they're broadcasting yet, it's exciting to see work actually being done within the city limits!

I drive the beltline everyday for work.  I have yet to see LTE without using the toggle method to see.  I know which tower you are talking about, and there's no LTE in Madison.  Now, if you go East on 94, you'll see it, and it's alive and  kicking in Sun Prairie...but for Madison, it's a giant goose egg.

  2. Well, it's Aug 1st, and I was told by the sprint sales rep at different locations that LTE would be live in Madison.  It's in the areas around Madison, but nothing in Madison.  I was wondering if Robert has heard of anything when Madison will be getting some better signal/coverage.  I was around camp randell yesterday, and my phone was roaming  on 3g, and I could not make a call or send a text.

  3. So the Sprint tower is right on top of the Towers Apartments about 1/2 of a block from Campus Barber shop (above Urban Outfitters).  I get my hairs cut there about every 5 weeks and was in there just last week.  I had 300kbps up and 100kbps down.  It really was remarkable speed for that area compared to what I usually see.  I think that the antenna hang off the side, but they aren't real visible to what updates were done yet and they're not on that permits list.  Downtown Madison needs a few more towers for my liking.....800MHz or not, it's a little sparse down here.  They could definitely use one or two more over by Camp Randall.  Real dead zone on my way home down Monroe.  I don't think that 800MHz is going to save that either since its a little valley there.  Edgewood HS has antenna all over their roof, but none that belong to Sprint.

You're out in Middleton, right?  Did you have any luck finding permit reports in Middleton?  There are only a few towers there, and their city website is not helpful. The tower on Everglade is at least on the west side!

I'm not in the middleton area...I work on the West Side of Madison (research park area).  When I saw the permit for the site on Tokey I was happy as hell, because that's right behind where I work...but as of right now..nothing.  All of Madison is pretty much sucking when it comes to LTE.  There's a little work on the beltline, but that's about it.

  4.

Well, my tower (Seminole Hwy and McKee in Fitchburg) had two trucks at it's base on Friday morning.  The base is pretty occluded by brick walls and a power station....and then a new building that the power station built to further block my snooping.  By Friday afternoon the utilities must have labeled all the buried cable around that area from the bike path north of McKee to just adjacent to the tower.  However, there were flags heading directly to the tower that were already marked for "Fiber Optic Cable".....so my question is more, if there is already Fiber leading to the tower, do they need to add more Fiber?  or is this different Fiber that's needed?

This obviously could be totally unrelated as there are a lot of utilities through that area...but I like to dream. Something has to start on this tower!!!!  gah!

Someone asked earlier about Madison Towers and these are the ones that have approved permits from the City of Madison. I've visited several of these towers and I can't say that they've really had any work done on them.  The Tokay one looks like new antennas, but nothing has happened since, can't get real close to that base (at the News station tower).

Permit reports from the City of Madison, none of these towers are spitting LTE at this time.

    No June Permits filed.

Sprint really needs to get these sites up and running.  I am on the west side of Madison, and can barely look at facebook because the data speed is horrible.  Attempting to stream Pandora is a complete joke.  The downtown area of Madison is even worse.  I roam when I am down on State Street by Campus Barber Shop.

  5. LTE is popping up all over Sun Prairie.  It's pretty strong on North Bird Street (by liberty station).  I looked at my phone last night, and had LTE at the aquatic center.  I had LTE by Costco..but went to Roaming by the Main street exit on 151....went back to LTE at the Windsor street exit.

Sun Prairie has had Spotty 4G for a little over 2 weeks now! Is it coming to say! Please say yes!

  6. I just got a text from Sprint this morning "Milwaukee, we're building you an all-new network! See how this affects your service at http://sprint.us/rnr "

Once you're in there, it eventually brings you to that "upgrades" map where they were doing the band-aid fixes. So it's really not related to network vision, but they're at least telling us that we may experience some issues while the upgrades happen.

I really have been having some issues over the last week or so. My EV-DO connection has been dropping in and out, it will take like 30 seconds to connect a voice call sometimes. I've never had these issues before. So I'm hoping towers around me are being worked on. (between Waukesha and Greenfield)

Well, I followed the link, and did not see anything for Milwaukee, but they did have Madison, Wi on it.  Of course, it looks like mostly voice upgrades...good thing the data is for hell in Madison....

  7. Last night at my home in Cottage Grove, WI (near Madison), I noticed LTE pop up on my phone.  It was off and on (probably doing some testing), but it was definitely there.  Signal was between -110 and -116, so I wasn't super close to the tower.  I was able to obtain this tower information:

    MCC - 310

    MNC - 120

    Cell 191 Band 25

UL Ch: 26665 DL Ch: 8665

My location in Cottage Grove was just off the interstate by the Kwik Trip gas station on Hwy N.  My speeds were only around 3 Mbit/sec download and 2 Mbit/sec upload, but I imagine that will change if they have backhaul work to do yet.

That portion was already marked on Sensorly.  I believe the tower is on the North side of I-94.

  8. Can't complain about the speeds coming from the southeast side of Janesville.

Wow!  That's pretty nice....haven't seen anything like that in the Mad-town area

  9. Well, next time you're in the LTE area, go to

    ##debug# on the dialer

Then 777468 for the code (that's SPRINT)

Then LTE engineering, then take a screen shot. The tower scid will tell us more.

You may already have that screen shot, sorry if you know about all that already.

We're probably connected to the same tower and I don't think it's the McFarland or Oregon one.

I would that if I was not driving.  I don't want to cause an accident.  But, if I get into the parking lot of the beltline, and have a little time, I will.

  10. I actually got some LTE on the beltline yesterday.  I had to do the toggle airplane mode to see it, but it was there.  I got the signal by Super Wal-Mart and had it until past the Monana Drive exit (heading East).  I was surprised that for the entire trip from the West Side to the East side of Madison via the Beltline had decent data speeds.  I  could actually stream the Play Music app the entire way!

  11. I spoke to an acquaintance that works at the New Berlin Sprint Switch. He works for Ericsson. He confirmed that Network Vision is only happening in North Wisconsin Markets at this time.

I know him from when he worked for Sprint and we go to the same comic book store. I saw him at C2E2 in Chicago on Sunday and that's what he told me. Anything Network Vision related happeing in South Wisconsin is simply prep work. No real work on it has been done.

Uggg! And I just saw that people in Point are getting LTE.....Thanks for the info....it seems like I will have to go north to get LTE.....
