Part of me wonders if some of what we’re seeing is due to the new equipment Sprint is using. Accoriding to local network engineers, the new KMW 16-port antennas Sprint is deploying are definitely inferior to the old NV anennas Sprint was using as far as range and spread of coverage go...

Or they're doing it how they initially brought up B26 in most markets where it wouldn't really be better in coverage than B25 and then later on optimized it.

This seemed like a rather odd placement for a small cell, on a pole in an alley. Not sure anyone's getting the best use out of it there as opposed to being along the actual main road instead.

    Very inconspicuous :P

Seattle is a Clear Huwei market but I’ve noticed that there are four jumpers to each antenna at all of our Clear sites...are these Huwei antennas capable of the same thing?

Huawei RAN is 100% decommissioned and no those equipment weren't. Their capability (2007-2010) was extremely lacking compared to the 2011-2012 era Samsung equipment Clear was deploying and the new RRU32xx series they planned to deploy but which got nixed by the Softbank - Clear - Sprint buyout.

Those antennas are also passive so it'll just broadcast whatever radio is wired into it and doesn't really have a big impact on radio virtual sector splitting.

Dean will have to confirm if this was a Clearwire update or if Sprint swapped the antenna panels/radios. There's a good chance Sprint replaced the Clearwire equipment and this isn't a Clearwire 3rd carrier. The reason I say this is because Sprint purchased a bunch of construction permits for Sprint/Clearwire colocated sites this Winter from the COH.

    It is very much so.

The Samsung clear dual mode equipment are capable of up to 80 MHz of spectrum if the high capacity split transmit path configuration is done just like how Sprints 8T8R 2.5 is capable of 120 MHz.

They basically did a software update to enable this capability and added a 3rd contiguous carrier via software en masse to add capacity to existing equipment. They'll be replaced eventually as the permits show but until then the additional capacity is well appreciated.

  5. I stopped by a corporate Sprint store & showed the associate your table & he sold me this card.

The BYOD SIM Kit number on the package, which is on the bar code, shows a matching number: 760492036429. It also says BYODSKVer3.0

UPC on the card says: 854798005170

    Part #: SIMOLW506TQ

On the SIM card & underneath the ICCID, it says: SOI0002a.

The tech said it'll work with the S9/S9+. Is this true, you think?

    Yep that's the right one!

The third BYOD Sim type (CSIM, ISIM v1, ISIM v2).

Very helpful. Also, very frustrating. I thought the thing about SIM cars was that they were universal?

Could you add the S8 Active?

I'll make a spreadsheet for non BYOD devices in time.

Sims are sorta "universal" if you take into considering the BYOD ones. The great reason why Sprint has so many sim variants is they're developing the sim card module as they update their network and devices. They have little experience in that category so must constantly iterate  in order to take advantage of new technological developments on the handset and on the network side. We can see this move from USIMs to CSIMs and now ISIMs.

    S8 Active is..

Thx.  Was he at least right about that SIM card working with the Unlocked Note 8?  If so, Sprint is changing up SIM cards again so soon just a few months after the release of the Note 8?

Is the Sprint store the only place right now to buy that SIM card you mentioned on Reddit?  Couldn't find it on Amazon or Sprint.

You'll need to ask for the BYOD card probably. Only like 2 popular mid range devices uses it so it's a pretty rare card to have around.

Just make sure they get the card with such specified info.

  8. I'll try and keep this as updated as possible as information becomes available.

    In PDF style: here

To purchase the Sprint 4-in-1 BYOD Sim Card Kit: https://shop.sprint.com/mysprint/shop/accessory/ao_details.jsp?accSKU=121700244&accCatId=78300001&deviceIndependent=true

    Contains: SIMOLW516TQ, SIMOLW506TQ, SIMOLW416Q, and SIMOLW506C

Maybe i'll find one time to do one for all of Sprints devices eventually...

I went to Best Buy today to pick up a SIM card for my upcoming Unlocked Galaxy S9+. I went in looking for SIM card part # SIMOLW416Q Galaxy S8, but was sold SIM part #: SIMGLW416Q. The Best Buy Mobile rep said that's the one they sell to customers with an Unlocked Note 8.

So was I given the correct SIM card?

It's been about 18 months since I left Sprint and about half a year since someone last posted in this thread. Any improvements in the lower Central Valley? Fresno covered with B41? B26 in Tulare County? LTE coverage improvements/new towers?

Yes. Mostly. Yes. Gmos all getting 4G with many now getting triband.

Also live volte testing around Fresno.

6,000?! Mother of Christ! That's a lot of employees.

I hate to say this, but they need to trim more fat. T-Mobile has had all this success and runs a larger network, yet they only have ~4,800 employees in Bellevue! Sprint KC-HQ needs a good "Office Space" style auditing.

Example: 30-50 T-mobile employees do (better) work compared to up to 200 Sprint employees on similar projects.

  12. Sprint in internal communications directly instructs their stores to not accept Magic Box returns on location and directs them to contact sprint customer support to obtain Rma kits.

Sprint store employees are definitively not trained nor equipped to handle anything related to magic boxes and to recommend it as a fact will lead to headaches beyond comprehension.

U could just drop it off at a Sprint store. to turn it in. since they own the equipment. (like u do when u return cable tv boxes to companies like Comcast).

However,  no telling if the clerks there know how to send it back to the correct department and remove it from your account properly.

Also, I have had one person say to send the MB back and have it removed from your account  BEFORE your port out...else Sprint will charge u a $150 equipment fee...that is a huge pain in the ass to get them to refund even after u mail back the MB.

    No. DO NOT DO THIS.

Sprint stores cannot return or take in Magic boxes.

One must request an RMA kit from Sprint tech / magic box support and ship it back to Sprint.

  14. Okay, I was just curious because I have a cabin in northern Michigan where several iden sites are on the list to be converted to Sprint along a major highway (interstate 75 to be exact). If I can connect to one of these sites at the cabin that currently does not have service without these new additional sites, and a magic box can connect to them once they are finished being upgraded, I can finally ditch at&t.

Edit: I would like to add that Verizon does not have coverage in this area.
You never know until you try especially with these MBs. Do tell us the results!

Is there any sort of additional gain antenna available for this magic box just out of curiosity?  And if not how much stronger of a signal would this box be able to acquire from a normal, lets say iPhone just for testing purposes?

The relay antennas are able to pick up much better than whatever puny thing is on mobile devices. Each antenna element is about the size of a phone.

Also no modifications allowed on it as it's an certified transmitter on licensed frequencies.

I will get picture next time while I have day off on every Friday.

Here we go. I remembered something from way back.

    dqAZ69M.png

So a high capacity Clear samsung setup where they're able to add another carrier(s) by cutting the RF chain from 4T4R to 2T2R + 2T2R. Same methodology used to add a 4th/5th/6th carrier for 8T8R equipment (8T8R --> 4T4R + 4T4R).

  17. it difficult since today is the lunar new year parade at that location and also I can't find the radio for the band 41 equipment only I can see  the alcatel sprint band 25 and 26 radio and antenna, and just the antenna for the band 41.
That'll work. Antenna pics would be helpful!

  18. I found a site that utilized 3 Carrier band 41, located above 70-74 Bowery Street Building, GCI: 02F88201, 02F88204, 02F8820A.

EARFCN: 41078, 41474, 41278.  Provider on Signal Check Pro is Clearwire B41.

    [

Are you able to take pictures of the site? I'm interested in what they have going in there. The old Samsung dual mode wimax - lte equipment is not hardware capable of more than 40 MHz IBW afaict.
