  1. I've seen this happen at airports where Sprint has partnered with Boingo. It was odd that it suddenly happened in this part of DC walking on the street next to the Ballpark. I've never seen that happen before while out and about.
  2. Has anyone else seen this? When I was Mapping with the Rootmetrics App by the Nationals Ballpark in DC yesterday, I noticed my device was suddenly picking up WiFi and was automatically logged into a WiFi network. I opened settings in order to see the network name, and it said “Private Network”. What was this? Boingo? DAS w/WiFi? Private Sprint WiFi around the Ballpark? Anyone else experience this kind of thing in other areas?
  3. Here’s a compilation of Speed Tests shared by Dr. Saw: https://twitter.com/SprintCTO/status/959133651496775680
  4. I’m using the Rootmetrics Coverage Map on iOS. I was in the Navy Yard in DC yesterday and did some Mapping and Speed Tests while there. I love turning the orange or blank hexes dark blue with new fast Speed Tests. Orange means slow. The darker the blue, the faster the average speed in the Hex. So I’ll run a few tests to bring that up. However, if I register a slow Speed Test in an area, I submit an issue report in the My Sprint App for “slow speeds”. I wish Sprint increased the reporting limit from 3 reports per day per line.
  5. I don’t have much to add actually. I was really impressed with the new CFO, and I think Sprint will substantially improve this year. They’ve finally gotten their footing, and they’re on track for 5G. Now it’s time to execute and hit all those towers with Triband. Perhaps we’ll see another deal with another cable company.
  6. The App is substantially improved over its predecessor. Putting it on the Google Play was a big deal for people who had Pixels, Nexus and other BYOD’s.
  7. Hopefully so! ”Net income of $7.2 billion included $7.1 billion of non-cash benefit from tax reform, resulting from a re-measurement of our deferred tax assets and liabilities under provisions contained in the new tax law.” That’s a crazy figure! Sprint should also be able to benefit in terms of Capex. Under the new tax law, until January 1, 2023, Sprint will be able to expense 100% of the cost of non-real estate property as first-year additional depreciation (bonus depreciation). (There is the possibility that 100% expensing may be available for property placed into service after September 27, 2017). Starting in 2023, the allowance of 100% is phased out by 20% each year. This wasn’t discussed on the call, but I’m sure it’s being accounted for by Marcelo and Team. Should help accelerate the buildout!
  8. The My Sprint Mobile App is finally getting the love and attention it deserves! Marcelo mentioned it on the Call and it’s in the presentation. 4.4 Stars on the iOS App Store. Good stuff! The App fits with Sprint’s priorities of taking cost out of the business and improving efficiency.
  9. Earnings Released! http://newsroom.sprint.com/sprint-reports-highest-retail-net-additions-in-nearly-three-years-and-raises-adjusted-free-cash-flow-guidance-with-fiscal-2017-third-quarter-results.htm Noticed this: “Net income of $7.2 billion included $7.1 billion of non-cash benefit from tax reform, resulting from a re-measurement of our deferred tax assets and liabilities under provisions contained in the new tax law.” This is pretty substantial. Anybody tuning into the call this morning? https://event.on24.com/wcc/r/1550424/5346235C13CD6A7C6380F96420CF2A59
  10. AT&T is able to bundle services, which the CFO called a “key strategy” and the CEO also pointed to video as an “important element”: https://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/at-t-notches-329-000-postpaid-phone-net-adds-q4-touts-wireless-video-bundles AT&T also said its increased Capex was partly due to the recent Tax Reform: https://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/at-t-s-capex-to-rise-to-25b-2018-from-just-21-6b-2017-tax-reform-firstnet Perhaps we’ll hear Sprint say the same thing about its Capex during the call or it will be asked about by an analyst.

  16. It’s great these upgrades are permanent and not just temporary COW deployments. Yeah, I agree. I think it’s time to update that slogan/campaign as well.

  21. Dr. Saw: https://twitter.com/SprintCTO/status/954371360482037761 “.@usbankstadium isn’t the only place to watch the big game in Minneapolis… @Sprint network’s new DAS is up and running at @TargetCenterMN with another great place to be for @Sprint customer’s on Feb 4th. “
  22. Looks like Sprint finally got a Speed Test server located in Washington DC in the App! Prior to this, there was only one in Elkridge, MD. I hope Sprint continues to place its own servers in cities nationwide. It’s the best way for Sprint to get reliable Speed Test Data from the App. Is there one in Minneapolis?
  23. Ahhhhh... ok. Does it work well? I’ve done mapping in the Rootmetrics App. The National Mall Corridor and the Southwest Waterfront areas of DC could use some new Speed Tests. Haven’t had a chance to get over there yet. Any takers? Anyone here in the Minneapolis area? Would love to see the network maps based on Sprint’s upgrades.
