  1. Makes sense. Gone are the $15/month promos (which cost carriers alot of money). My brother-in-law went to a Sprint store last night to get the iPhone Forever deal at $15/month...but he was told they required insurance for 90 days at $14/month, after 90 days he could cancel it. I know that insurance is NOT required, just a sales rep trying to get commission. But my brother-in-law just left and missed out.

Aw man... Hate hearing stuff like this.

  2. iPhone Forever got an overhaul:

    Link: http://www.sprint.com/landings/iphone-forever/index_p.html

18 Month Lease Term is the only option.

Now requires making 12 payments to upgrade. You can accelerate your payments to upgrade sooner.

For Current Customers: If you joined iPhone Forever before 1/8/16, you can upgrade to a new iPhone whenever it's released.

  3. Tarek said the Q3 numbers look good, but wouldn't be any more descriptive than that.  I had to get off the stream early, did he mention anything about NGN?

Nothing too specific. He was glad that people didn't see activity because Sprint has been trying to do this under the radar for the most part. He's basically said that the Engineering Team is working flat out and that a lot has been accomplished through software upgrades, which are cheap and done in clusters overnight. He said Sprint didn't have to spend a lot of money to accomplish a lot.

He also said that Mobile Leasing Co. (Handset) will do multiple transactions per year to ensure additional funding as necessary.

What's coming next is "Network Lease Co" apparently... in a few months.

  4. And just a word of caution. This is an investment bank sponsored forum moderated by an investment bank analyst. Sometimes good information comes out of these. Often it does not.

I don't think it'll be any different than Sprint's usual hosted Earnings Calls with analysts on the phone asking questions.

Lots of info seemed to come from the session with T-Mobile yesterday: Reddit Link

  5. Cat is out the bag on why Tmobile decided to share their updated number's early, I think they just wanted to rain on Sprint's party ahead of Tarek Robbiati's talk this afternoon.

    Quote from the article..

"T-Mobile released the numbers ahead of presentations by some of its executives at an industry conference in Las Vegas. Sprint also may have grown during the quarter, and T-Mobile executives said as much during their presentations, according to one report. They said that gains were “coming primarily” from AT&T and Verizon and that they expect “Sprint to put up decent subscriber growth numbers” from the fourth quarter, said Jennifer Fritzsche, an analyst at Wells Fargo Securities, in her report to clients on the T-Mobile presentations."

It'll be interesting to hear what Tarek says today.

  6. I feel like adding the "Sprint LTE Plus is faster than At&it and Verizon" really changed the game from last time. They looked desperate last time but they look really good this time. I would imagine it has been quite successful because it shows customers they are not just competing on price but on network quality as well.

According to this Newsroom Article, it seems it's been successful:

“The response to 50% off has been outstanding,” said Marcelo Claure, Sprint CEO. “We experienced record sales during Black Friday and continue to see high demand. After receiving such positive feedback from customers and hearing from our salespeople about store traffic, I knew we had to extend this exciting promotion to give even more wireless subscribers the opportunity to experience Sprint’s award-winning network and take advantage of the best value in wireless.”

  7. The 50% off offer is being extended another 30 days. I wonder how successful this promo has been...

Perhaps the CFO will comment on this tomorrow?

Sprint CFO Tarek Robbiati to Speak Jan. 7 at the Citi 2016 Internet, Media & Telecommunications Conference

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), December 31, 2015 - Sprint (NYSE: S) Chief Financial Officer Tarek Robbiati will speak at the Citi 2016 Internet, Media & Telecommunications Conference in Las Vegas on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 5:00 p.m. ET.

A live audio webcast of this session may be accessed at www.sprint.com/investors. A replay will be available shortly after the actual presentation time.

  8. They almost certainly do their own internal testing during the design of the phone. I work be shocked if they didn't. But their lab likely isn't certified by the FCC and other agencies, so it's easier to use the FCC report for official numbers.

So what's the variance between and FCC certified lab and their internal testing Lab?

Sprint does similar kinds of testing as part of the certification process. Just want to understand this process better.

  9. Absolutely.  For FCC authorizations, Samsung does not do its own in house RF testing, but it contracts with FCC accepted RF testing labs.

    AJ

Interesting. Why doesn't Samsung do its own testing?

How about HTC? Does it do its testing in-house or contract out?

The HTC M9 as I recall has horrid real-world RF Performance... and they just shipped it anyway?

  10. No, the uplink ERP/EIRP figures are not "flawed."  They are what they are.  A weaker uplink will cause both uplink and downlink to drop sooner.  However, that may not play out in the real world.  Other handset or network factors may overshadow any strength/weakness in uplink ERP/EIRP.  But, bar none, some recent Samsung handsets have had relatively weak uplink.

    AJ

And Samsung is fully aware of this RF performance when the device ships?

I guess Sprint is as well per its device certification process?

  11. At this point, Sprint could offer a settlement where the users affected by the injunction can transition to plans that are optimized, prioritized "unlimited" and I would bet this ends.

I don't think the non-profits want that. They want Unlimited/Unthrottled per the terms of the original contract for WiMAX service. We'll see what happens at the end of the 90 day period...

  12. Sprint's CFO is speaking on Thursday at 5 PM ET at the Citi 2016 Internet, Media & Telecommunications Conference in Las Vegas.

    Livestream Link: www.sprint.com/investors.

We'll get more context during his address, but I thought this was an especially revealing sentence in the article for Sprint's funding plans going forward:

Robbiati, in his few months at Sprint, helped boost the company’s cash holdings by $1.1 billion through an innovative sale and lease back of cellphones its customers lease from Sprint. He expects to repeat the transaction on a regular basis this year as a source of funding for Sprint’s transformation plan.
