  1. I feel your Talmadge pain.  I live there and service has gone downhill over the last few months.  This isn't a Sprint bash, just saying what I've experienced.  The tower at Colwood and ECB was upgraded and is putting out LTE, but the site that serves much of Talmadge and Talmadge proper is at Monroe and Estrella (3G NV done).  There are other cell sites in the area and Sprint has been having many problems with them, including Monroe/Estrella (I've spoken with Sprint multiple times about it, and not just the CS reps).  For a while 3G speeds got considerably better but voice went South pretty quick - it got to the point where I couldn't use my phone inside my house (North of Adams) and even outside I had one bar, maybe two at best.  I received many of the same responses you did from Sprint as well as "the problem has been fixed...wait, no, we are mistaken".  Eventually things will be good, I'm certain of that, but I jumped over to Big Red for cell service.  I rely on cell phones and things became not only unacceptable but unsusable to me in Talmadge and with too many dropped calls elsewhere.

Sprint did handle my complaints and credit requests very well and I might come back some day when NV is complete if unlimited data is still around.

If it is a 3G NV accepted site, it is most likely still going through the legacy core that is causing all the drop calls.  Sprint needs to hurry up and turn up the back-haul at that site and route the calls through the new Sprint core.

Isn't this the site where the new YMCA being built?  I know there is one that used to be on the parking structure of the dealership and was demolished. They put up a temporary site there.

  3. I have experienced speeds like that also, the thing that I was trying to get across was that even with strong signal, many of the sites in and around the loop don't seem to be working properly. Also, I have been getting my signal strength info from either the engineering screen or CDMA field test, not just looking at the bars. It's almost like some people don't seem to believe me...I'm not confusing 1x signal strength with LTE signal...you're all just going to have to trust me on that.

Oh I see. Something else is up, possibly those sites are under testing?

  4. Hi - I'm in the Talmadge (i.e. about 2 miles from I-8/I-15 intersection) area, and for the last THREE weeks I've been getting dropped calls on nearly every call.  Now for the last few days, I'm also getting problems sending standard text messages.

Calls to Sprint said "We'll fix it in 2 days," and now updated to, "There are 2 cell towers out and we don't have an ETA on the fix."

Also heard/was told that the Nextel towers were to blame for not having any 4G/LTE in San Diego yet, and were being shut off at end of June, then was told they are on IDEN vs CDMA/LTE technology and this was not a factor at all.

Lots of alphabet soup, contradictions and excuses.

Maybe I should be happy they are saying they don't know, but hell, then I shouldn't be paying for services NOT rendered, either.

Anyone else have info/data to share on this aspect?

Had encountered same experience dropping every calls.  It was during NV upgrade from a nearby tower.  What you can do is find out which tower your connected to, call Sprint and give them the site ID from the sponsors map.  3 weeks seems too long, mine lasted 1 week, after several calls to Sprint it was fixed.

Also, Sprint customer service cannot fix this issue, it has to be escalated to a trouble call to a different department that will look into this issue.

  5. The Loop still sux for LTE.  Its been over a year since LTE started in Chicago, Loop LTE is pretty bare, as are areas in Porter County, IN and Dekalb County in IL.  Im in the loop everyday.  Id say about half of the Loop has LTE.  Forget about data throughput when its on 3G its almost non-existant.  Noticeable areas without LTE are the downtown beaches, most of North Michigan Ave, McCormick Place, Fulton Market district.  The financial district seems to have decent coverage.  Progression of NV sites complete has been much slower in the Loop and other dense chicago neighborhoods.  Most attribute this to access to towers on building rooftops; permits, scheduling, etc.  I cant say for sure.  Backhaul installation also seems to be a much slower process than previously thought.  There has been discussion here about intentional delay by the backhaul installer, ATT, b/c they are a direct competitor of Sprint.

Eventually AT&T will have to deliver.  Same in San Diego, many 3G sites accepted, just waiting on the back haul.  We are getting very good speeds on 4G and 3G once the back haul is in place.

It is very true that AT&T had delayed many Sprint sites with fiber.  We had personal encounter in San Diego in a building which we ordered AT&T fiber for client, Sprint had their orders in way before us, we got our fiber before them in that same building.

  6. What were you doing? Sitting on the antenna???

Now those are the kinds of speeds I would expect with a full signal!

(thanks for the SignalCheck shot  :tu:  )

Comment to users claiming full LTE bars :D

They will now know what it looks like with full LTE bars.

  7. Are you sure investing is for you? reading your post is giving me a flash back to King of Queens when Doug almost lost his mind because his stock price fell.

I'm in for the long haul.  Just wondering what is happening in the market for the price to drop more than 1 dollar in 3 days.  Something must be up.

  8. dollar cost average.  Basically to lower your breakeven point.  You said you bought some shares at $6.49.

For example if you bought 100 shares @ $6.50 and  lets say the stock price went down to $5.00 and you buy 200 more shares @ $5.00.  Your total cost spent is now (200x$5 + 100x$6.50 = $1650).  Your break even point now is $1650/300 shares = $5.50/share.  So now you lowered your breakeven point went down by 1 dollar from $6.50/share to $5.50/share.

Sprint taking a beating today, why is the pricing dropping so much for the past 3 days?  It drop under $6 today.

  9. Chances are Sprint wont tank. It will probably have a roller coaster for the next year or so but I personally don't expect the price to go beyond +/- 2 dollars. It is entirely possible that we can see a stock price of $20 in about two -three years. My advice, don't try to short the stock. Buy it for the long haul.

I say it will be in the $50 range when Sprint is making billions in profit.  :tu:

  10. On sponsors map, all of San Diego's LTE sites are compared and does show "2 data speed upgrades" on Sprint's map.  We found new 2 data speed upgrades but is not indicated on sponsors map as 4G. We were able to confirm last night it indeed is broadcasting LTE.

Is it safe to say all "2 data speed upgrades" are confirmed LTE sites by Sprint?  Been watching both sponsors map and Sprints map, all new "2 data speed upgrades" on Sprint's map end up being confirmed on sponsors map as 4G.  Can anyone confirm?

  11. Is it me, or is San Diego at a complete halt?

Check out the sprint.com coverage maps.  If you see 2 data speed upgrades, it is most likely a site with LTE. I haven't been proven wrong yet!  All 2 data speed upgrades shows 4G LTE on sponsors map.
