  1. Right, it depends on where they have fiber runs.  They ran fiber and put it DSLAMs to two of the phone cabinets not far from my house (one less than 1.5 miles away) but unfortunately the cabinet our area is on runs further up the main road and then back down, and they have not run fiber to that cabinet.  One of the local retail managers mentioned they could run DSL extenders from one of the new fiber installations instead of having another fiber run to our cabinet, but they've said it's not in their budget and they won't commit to anything or give any indication they might ever actually do it.  Not to me, not to my County Commissioner and not to the folks at the NC broadband mapping office.  Time Warner is no better.

    That blows.

  2. That's what I'm hoping, the external antenna should give me enough signal near the window.

And that's one of the main reasons I'm leaving CenturyLink.  I can't get high speed internet through Time Warner or CenturyLink at home so the Sprint broadband card and my AT&T wif-fi hotspot are my only options.  And as soon as Sprint gives me 4G here and those new Tri-Band hotspots are out I'll be dropping that AT&T hotspot.

CenturyLink really lost me the last couple years because of two things.... First they called me and told me that couldn't use my "unlimited" long distance to dial my conference call numbers for work anymore or they would start to charge me some insane long distance rate.  So I've had to use the toll-free numbers, which costs my company money to dial those instead of using free long distance.  Then, more recently, we've got a farm with a small shed not far from where we live.  They told me I could get DSL there so I've been fixing up the shed to use as an office.  Now after I've spent money setting things up and was about to turn power on, I called CenturyLink back again to have them setup DSL and they're telling me it's not available.  You can't imagine how mad I was.     Still waiting for a manager to call me back but I doubt anything will come of it.  Sounds like I'm SOL.

Anyway, I'm ready to stop giving them any more of my money.

See if you can find out where your central office is. They stop installing DSL at a certain mile radius because the speed starts to drop off dramatically. I check to see if I can what the cutoff is.

  3. One more reason for sprint to switch to GSM /ducks

Sprint already switched from GSM to CDMA. It would be surprising to see them switch back especially since GSM is not the future.

  4. It would be interesting to see them port the Google Edition experience to CDMA HTC ONE. One can dream :P

Google has a thing against CDMA carriers.

    -Luis

Economy of scale. There are more GSM carriers worldwide.

  5. No, that's incorrect.

The first phone to have 1xA was in 2012.

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2402598,00.asp

Not even the iPhone 5 has 1xA

    http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/13/sprint-confirms-hd-voice-incompatible-with-iphone-5/

So, like digiblur stated, Sprint will have to keep the same number of 1x voice carriers for a long time.

Even after Sprint updates ALL of its 1x voice carriers, PCS+SMR, it's gonna be a while before the phones are upgraded to support it and the increased capacity that 1xA offers.

So, other than the EVOLTE what phones have 1xA?

  6. Blame the NIMBYs there who won't allow work to be done without committees and bribery. You think it's easy to get equipment to a cell site when local communities won't allow work to be done?

I still remember around 2000 when sprint wanted to put a tower in Syosset  They said no. Sprint said we will disguise it so it blends in. They still said no. When I left they were about five years into the process. I still don't know if they ever got the tower.

  7. T-Mobile is most definitely waiting until an entire area is nearing completion before allowing access to the network. Sprint is the only one releasing the network tower by tower.

    Sent from my HTC ONE

I love that Sprint is allowing us to use LTE before launch. However, the more I read some comments on the internet the more I start to think it was a mistake.

  8. I don't think it's just him.  I've been having issues with my ONE not getting emails or calls.  the gf on the other hand has the gs4 and hasn't had a signal issue to date.  Actualy, hers outperforms mine in almost every catagory.  I love the phone but the service issues are really becoming bothersome.  I didn't get any signal again until i got home, where i have an airave.  I've also had it resend a message to me 9+ times and hours or days later.

I would get on the line with tech support. FWIW in my experience most data issues are profile related. Maybe that extends to emails and calls also.

  9. I think the Verge article is premature at best. Sometimes when there is a changing of the guard it works out for the best. It all depends on the homegrown talent and what the new vision is. I also think that Peters decision to go ahead with the One despite the supply issues was the only right choice to make. They really needed to beat Samsung to market  in an attempt to steal sales or at least prohibit the loss of their own sales to Samsung.b The last point is that HTC does not presently need to beat Samsung. They merely need to hold their own. Focusing on being the biggest versus the best is what got General Motors into trouble. HTC should focus on being the best and let marketing do its job. The sales will come on their own.

  10. On the other hand there have been price increases for all people who get an employer discount on family plans at Sprint as they now apply the employer discount only to the first line. This did raise my monthly rate about 6%.

They did that early last year IIRC.
  11. Tbh , I don't care just saying moving on now .

Just to back up my point , I found this on the Sprint Community Forum

eugenesprintfremont Oct 5, 2012 5:13 PM (in response to GoldenStateWarrior510)

I was at Intel (Mission College Blvd) at 2pm and saw "Extended LTE" on my iPhone.

Speedtest was: 6.27Mbps download, 3.38 upload

You guys keep saying you can't get Extended LTE on Sprint thats clearly not true . But onto the next subject .

Heres more to back up my point

eugenesprintfremont Oct 5, 2012 5:29 PM (in response to mak_tech)

Thanks. My setting was on "off" for data roaming at the time and I still got "Extended LTE".

So this guy wasn't even roaming on Verizons LTE network & he still got Extended .

You really should not believe anything you read on those forums.

  12. My wife and I were just discussing this commercial... Two groups of people are fighting over how much they like their devices so instead use ours which no one is fighting over?

One of the quotes on you tube stated" two people in a room full of people have Nokias, yup pretty accurate".
