  1. VZW itself controls the DROID brand (under license from Lucasfilm). That is the difference. Let us hope that Lucasfilm is charging VZW a mint for that right.

And, like it or not, do expect an eventual HTC One variant for VZW following the DROID line. In the end, in the current handset market, VZW is but Sprint probably is not a large enough carrier to command its own exclusive branding any longer.

    AJ

Your logic is sound. I'm still going to be mad though :P
  2. HTC controls it, as HTC has released EVO branded handsets for other carriers.

Honestly, I really do not understand the fascination with the EVO brand. What makes it so special? Is it just sentimentality?

    AJ

I'm sure sentimentality has something to do with it. I think as a practical matter having a "brand exclusive" was as good for Sprint as the Droid branding was for Verizon. I am fine with the EVO going away as long as HTC does not do a One series exclusive for Verizon.
  3. Highly unlikely. PhoneScoop is reporting that HTC has learned from its mistakes last year, allowing the One series to become so fragmented, and that hurt overall sales compared to Samsung and the singular Galaxy S3.

So, sorry, guys, I know that some of you were oddly attached to the EVO name, but it is going, going, gone.

    AJ

Who actually owns the EVO name? If its Sprint then I can see them approaching another manufacturer about picking it up. If it is owned by HTC then I agree that its dead as far as top tier phones are concerned.
  4. Insane, Samsung Galaxy S4 is rumored to show on March 14th. Apple has to do something....

    http://news.cnet.com...-sail-march-14/

Apple will be fine for the foreseeable future. They have a very dedicated customer base and they probably make more on each device sold than anybody else, mostly because they limit how many different devices they sell. They clearly do not have a need to be the sales leader. If I was Apple I would try to stem the inroads that Google is making into educational facilities. I would also start to bundle my products. Maybe a special sale price on a laptop and desktop combo. The beauty of Apple is its ecosystem and once you get a consumer to fork over the money they are more likely to buy other Apple products.
  5. I thought the dots were more a part of android than any specific manufactures design language. I only say that because i have them on all three generations of evos that we have had. A physical home key may be a better case but samsung and apple are far from the only ones to have used physical home keys.

  6. unification would be great software wise and it is a better way to differentiate from the iPhone. I'm personally Android and I hate to admit but Samsung did copy a lot of software stuff and the home button.

From what I saw the stuff that Apples accused samsung of copying was very generic or things that they should not have a right to. Like the symbol for a telephone. The thing is universal. If anybody has a claim to that it should be a baby bell in my opinion.
  7. Yeppers

Something is wrong with a few of their towers

    And some definite dead spots.

Take your phone up leesville to the four way stop sign at Mt Herman church.

You will have almost full bars, but will lose data.

    Every time.

Tried with my s3 and the wife's evo 3d

They really need to "fix" things instead of putting them in this crazy stage

They turned 4g on at the ray Rd tower the other day, but had nothing setup to route the data.

Expect things to be in a state of flux for a bit. Also, any LTE that we get right now is not official. Whats the cross st on the Ray road tower?
  8. Has anyone in N. Raleigh (Near Creedmoor Rd & Crabtree Mall) been having issue with data? Ever since yesterday morning and this morning on my way to work, I couldn't get data. Only the upload light would light up and not the download light, so I couldn't get anything to work. Refreshing the Profile doesn't work, neither does restarting the phone either. When I get near downtown it refreshes itself and starts working again.

I noticed that LTE was off in North Raleigh this morning and I was getting alot of 1x in the Rex area last night.
  9. Has anyone else had their mobile data connection hang when connected to 4G? I was at Dulles airport this past week and several times had my connection just hang. When I looked in the settings, the mobile data entry would read 'connecting...' I could toggle it on and off and it would not reestablish the connection. Airplane mode needed cycling to get the connection back. Thoughts?

Mine was worse. Nothing would make it work. I had to call the tech desk to get it working again. You might want to run your sprint diagnostic and see what that result is.
  10. It will be interesting to see how this will play out but apple is really leaving a hell of a lot of money on the table with their one size fits all approach.

This is why the idea is atleast plausible. They already down sized the iPad(mini) to try to cash in on the smaller than 10 tablet market. The only two things that might stop Apple from coming out with two phones in one year is the possible cross shopping of two new iPhone models and the number of iPhone models currently in production. Assuming they drop the iPhone 4 that would leave the 4s,5,5s and 6. Thats four phones with three diffrent designs. Unheard of for Apple and it may decrease their profit margin on each device sold.
  11. It is Sprint corporate footprint now, but that is a relatively recent development because it was iPCS affiliate coverage until only three years ago. And that is why many sites are only CDMA1X, which is still 3G, by the way. But iPCS dragged its heels deploying EV-DO in its markets and never did in many rural areas.

    AJ

You beat me to it AJ. The mountains and relatively thin population density also add to the problems in building out the network. As a comparison, the land line service has changed hands twice in the last few years. Guess who owns the land line service now(in most parts of NE PA). Hint: used to be a baby bell.
  12. I know you guys have been talking about it well before I found this sight and it's not like I didn't believe what you guys were saying, but when you see it side by side it's unbelievable. I'm looking at my phone and I'm like you got to be kidding me.

I don't know if its fair to compare a phablet to a phone. I have heard that the Note 2 is even significantly better than the S3 when it comes to LTE reception.
  13. You dont have to be so rude- you only have SPRINT plastered over the website. If you know the progress then what is the hold up? Seems like the other questions are being answered by the administrator. I was wrong that you are not affiliated with Sprint but apparently you are knowledgable about the NV rollout.

Download sensorley to your phone. LTE has been creeping into Garner. US 70 from raleigh down to about timber drive and 401 down to old stage. There is also LTE in the 401 ten ten road area. If you read the site rules and browse through some of the htreads then you will get a better idea on whats going on and why it is "taking" so long.
  14. I don't think so. You are operating under the assumption that each evo uses the exact same components.

My bone stock EVO 4G LTE can't run nav, it crashes. I tried a factory refresh RUU and it didn't fix. I know 4 people with evo, 2 people have problems since the update, two people don't. All are stock, non-rooted. All worked perfect prior to JB update.

My guess is that HTC uses different component vendors for some part that has a bad driver and makes nav crash - dunno though. If I run non-JB, no nav crash.

Sounds like a software issue to me :-/

Interesting theory. Maybe you should check the build dates of your friends phones and start to test that theory. Just to start you off. I have a held up at customs on release day EVO and I have had none of the issues that you detail.
  15. Even though I have no idea what this is about, the fact that you offered a public apology for this is admirable. Good job on that front.

It was more like a eureka moment. I finally saw what he was trying to tell me.
  16. A couple of months ago I got into a back and forth with another member over a android-centric website. I will leave the name of the site unpublished. I just wanted to say to that member that they were right(Sgt. Slaughter). They have exhibited some of the worse forms of pseudo journalism. :wall:
