  1. Corporate customers is one of the big reasons. My company has no interest in upgrading my iPhone 4s. It meets the needs for what they give me a phone for. So until it breaks or the company decides my needs have changed, my work phone will not be LTE enabled.

There are millions of people in the same position as me.

yep the government does the same thing.  They only upgrade phones when absolutely needed.

  2. Can anyone recommend a car charger that actually charges the phones, not just holds the battery level?

My Note 3 and my wife's S5 don't seem to actually charge on any mobile chargers. Seems like either they lose power or hold the same.

There's so many out there and so many conflicting reviews.

I just use a 12 volt inverter that has plug ins on it and i plug the GS5 charger into it and it charges great!

  3. So all this talk about temporary sites.  Last year at the Washington State Fair I noticed at least 5 temporary looking towers?  They were on wheels.  They had LTE antennas on them and my signal was great.  Data...  not so much, which i can understand due to the vast amout of people congesting the cell sites there.  Do they bring in temporary antennas during things like this?  I do not know if they were sprint antennas or not, as at this time I really didnt  know very much about the subject.  Perhaps I was just seeing things.  Idk.

  4. I realize my contributions won't be about Sprint or anything in the US market...so please feel free to move to a 'foreign' section. :tu:

Before I start any new threads or post further, I thought it might be interesting if I share what I know on my local carriers. Here we go...

The Big Four in South Africa

MTN (MTN Group reported 210 million subscribers in April 2014; big push into rest of Africa)

    CBqRmjY.png

Vodacom (51.5 million subscribers reported in July 2013; owned by Vodafone UK)

Cell C (12.3 million subscribers reported in November 2013; "the underdog")

    dd9pgGX.jpg

Telkom Mobile (1.6 million subscribers reported in September 2013; "new kids on the block")

    LTE takes off

Telkom Mobile, previously "8ta", were the early adopters and conducted a very visible LTE trial during the period November 2012 - August 2013. MTN and Vodacom followed suit. From what I could see, they conducted closed trials. Cell C has yet to adopt LTE.

    SA spectrum

    - MTN operates their 3G and LTE networks in the 1800MHz band. They use FDD for LTE.

    - Vodacom also operates the 1800MHz band, also using FDD for LTE.

    - Telkom Mobile use 2100MHz for 3G and 2300MHz for LTE. They're the only carrier to use TDD.

    - Cell C operates in the 2100MHz bands offering 2G and 3G only (as at August 2014)

Personal use of each carrier for LTE

Telkom Mobile uses TDD so get very high speeds; I've hit 73Mbps but have seen demos of 100Mbps; Uploads max out at 7-9Mbps; This is my voice provider.

MTN uses FDD and the speeds are much for synchronous; I've hit up to 50Mbps but have seen other users getting 71Mbps; Uploads max out at 21Mbps. This is my home fixed broadband provider.

Vodacom uses FDD and the speeds are a mixed bag yet performance is good; I've not seen many reports on LTE speeds but have personally hit around 16Mbps down and 9Mbps up, best case; I use this carrier for my iPad 4.

Hi.  Glad to have you here.  Great to see that there are people here from other countries.  So I was wondering what the cost of these plans is in your country?  Obviously it must be different than here in the states.  Just out of curiosity.  Thanks.  Have a great day!

  5. Hey I decided to go ahead and start a TAC tracking thread. The TAC , in my findings, have been a value to me deciphering which band I am connected to. Signal check pro easily states the TAC when connected to LTE.

If you can report your Market, city, which band you are connected too(engineering screens will relay which band you are on), and of course your TAC. We will create a spreadsheet with the information in time.

Do NOT post Side ID's or any sponsor level information. Censor the info out if you use SCP notes. Thanks!

Hey guys so I am trying to figure out where a certain tac is located at.  i know its not my local area.  Well kinda.  Anyone in here from Seattle, WA?  If so anyone in here directly across from BainBridge Island?  I found an LTE tower that showed up on my phone for about 2 minutes and then disappeared soon after.  I did manage to get the TAC from it.  Signal was very weak.  I think its from Seattle though because its TAC is different from any others over here on the Kitsap side.

    The tac is 23323

    Western Washington Market.

I will be listing my TAC's that I've found here later tonight.  Thanks for the help.

  6. If they can't afford to outbid VZW or ATT will they even bid at all on many key markets? By ruling out smaller companies joining forces you remove additional bids, not add more. The Chairman knows this, but is spinning it to try to get us to believe it will raise more money. Essentially it will make sure just the Duopoly bids on the best licenses. Smaller providers will be relegated to the scraps. It will be 700MHz all over again.

If smaller companies could band together, they'd have a shot at actually bidding against the duopoly. Thus adding a third bidder and driving UP prices. The Chairman can do sleight of hand all he wants, but most of us will not be convinced.

Additionally, joining forces on one band of spectrum is not a de facto backdoor merger. It would allow two independent companies to be able to better compete with the Duopoly. Which is what the FCC says they want.

Or maybe they don't want that at all? Maybe all their moves aren't to protect consumers, but special interests? Nobody wants there not to be a merger more than the Duopoly. And if you think about it, no one loses on a Tmo/Sprint 600MHz sharing arrangement other than the Duopoly.

It would be the best for consumers. Just imagine all that Legere could do for the little people if he only had access to choice 600MHz spectrum. But joking aside, VZW and ATT already have lots of low frequency spectrum. They can easily serve all the indoor and fringe areas it wants. They need to focus on high frequency capacity now to bolster their networks.

Tmo has virtually no low frequency spectrum and Sprint only a little. They desperately need it. And the Duopoly knows that. They are trying every move they can to stop it. This is one of those moves. Their lobbyists have been able to convince the Chairman this is the right move. But I completely declare it is wrong for everyone other than the Duopoly's interests.

The FCC is corrupt and we all know it...  just saying...

  7. I am shocked that Robert just has not locked the whole WIMAX forums (even so no one can start a new topic....), its a dead technology and to be honest there not many people who care(other then who its getting decommissioned, which alls we know is 2015), don't hate me but I am just telling the truth!

didnt sprint convert the wimax antennas into clear b41 antennas?  Because I get very good speeds at a spot that was converted.  I am well aware that these will be gone in 2015 and will eventually become sprint B41 antennas, but Ill take what I can get at the moment.  So its not completely dead yet.  still have a wee bit of life left.  Like Robert explained its like a grandpa on its last life.  I dont remember his exact words, but it was something similar to that.  lol.

  8. as stated above, its the LTE models from what was previously mentioned, apparently LTE will not work on the phone, but it will register with the sprint network on 1x and 3g.

  9. I can confirm that EVDO roaming in Western Washington is still alive and I would say well, but its quite slow as you probably already guessed.  But better than nothing when I'm in a non sprint area...  Though I have seen 1x roaming in a few areas up here in washington.
