  1. Here is an update from Clearwire on their Network Recovery.

Clearwire Disaster Recovery Response to Super Storm Sandy

    October 31, 2012 4:00 p.m. EST

Clearwire is quickly responding to the massive destruction left behind by Hurricane Sandy in several states throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Additional resources and network teams from the Southeast and Midwest are actively assisting our teams on the ground throughout the region. Clearwire is working in conjunction with our network partner Ericsson to restore service for impacted customers. Affected areas include New York City, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Maryland, Bridgeport, Connecticut, Boston, New Brunswick, Cleveland and Rochester.

Our number one priority is to restore service in the impacted areas as quickly and safely as possible. We are working closely with first responders, government, telecom partners and local officials on the ground to provide critical mobile, home and office broadband 4G internet service where it is needed most. One of the obvious challenges in the area has been massive power outages and flooding. Total restoration of the impacted areas is unknown at this time. However, we have made tremendous progress restoring service for many of the tens of thousands of customers who have been impacted.

    Impacted Customers:

Due to Hurricane Sandy, customers may experience temporary or intermittent service outages, as well as lengthier Customer Care wait times. Clearwire will address and resolve service issues as quickly as we can, with personal safety (of both our customers and our workers) being our top priority. Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you are experiencing no or intermittent service in your area, customers are encouraged to call 888-888-3113, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Customers can also utilize Clearwire's social media channels on Twitter (@CLEAR) and on Facebook (CLEAR4G) for questions as well.

  2. Right. I'm pretty certain the one owned by Crown Castle is a Verizon site. It's not pictured in the photo's I posted. The US Cellular tower is actually the one on the left in my photo above. And the GTP tower is the one that I didn't know for sure what exactly it was and who all it had on it. I thought Nextel only used the longer panels? Not sure what's on the top and what that's for.

Maybe you should check out AntennaSearch yourself. It has a lot of helpful information about tower ownership.

  3. They are located about a half mile from my house.

Here's a link to there location on google maps:

    http://goo.gl/maps/YQcig

I used AntennaSearch, and there were 3 registered sites that is near that location. One of the sites belongs to Crown Castle, another site belongs to Global Tower Partners (Assignor Nextel), and the other site belongs to United States Cellular Corporation.

  4. There are a few towers by my house I'm trying to identify. The tower on the right I've found info indicating that it was once owned by Nextel then sold off.

What I'm wondering is are those Nextel panels on the lower portion? and even more curiously can anyone give me any clue as to what those panels up at the top may be for? CDMA, GSM, a particular carrier etc? Some time ago I found some kind of evidence that lead back to Denali Spectrum aka Leap/Cricket, but now I can't find that info anymore and I'm wondering If that could be in fact whose panels those are.

    Thanks

    Where are those towers located?

  5. Sprint is launching a road show this week for its fledging LTE service, bringing "brand ambassadors" to its LTE markets so they can get face-to-face with consumers and answer questions about the new offering, which is scheduled to hit various locations in San Antonio, Texas, through Sept. 16 and Dallas through Oct. 9.

Sprint said its mobile tour will feature the Samsung Galaxy S III and demonstrations showing "how easy it is to share your videos and pictures with a touch of the screen while on our 4G LTE network."

  6. Please reread what I wrote. That sale requires you to purchase a month's worth of access right then. I don't need a month's worth of access. I want a two-hour pass to test speeds in Kerrville, plus either a two-hour or a day pass to test speeds in Austin. So that's $15 worth of service, not $35 or $50 (and I'd want the $50 one because I guarantee you that speeds in both instances are going to be above 1.5/0.5 down/up)

Clear offers a 2 hour pass for $4.99, a day pass for $9.99, and a week pass for $24.99.

  7. Was in Kerrville yesterday. Since my SIII only picks up LTE 4G, I stopped by the local Sprint store to see if their E4GT could pick up WiMAX in town. It couldn't.

I'll be back there in a few weeks, and will have a Clear Spot to test things out with.

Speaking of which, does anyone have a Clear Spot they could loan (or sell cheaply to) me for a day or two surrounding 9/18? Doesn't need to be active; I'm just trying to get around paying $79 for the Voyager plus a month's access if I can (Clearwire is having a promo on their branded service right now). i'd grab a NetZero hotspot, since 200MB is more than enough to do testing, but that's $20 more than the Clear device.

There is an online sale right now for only $24.99 for the device.
