So with T Mobile taking over, what happens to our extended roaming? Especially uscc coverage.

As long as you're on "Sprint", it's business as usual.

But down the road when you're moved into the T-Mobile network, you'll be treated to T-Mobile's roaming partners (or lack thereof). T-Mobile does have a roaming agreement with USCC, but it's limited to VoLTE devices purchased from T-Mobile and only available in certain areas.

Overall, you should prepare yourself for less roaming. Don't expect much from T-Mobile if you're outside of their native network.

If they can avoid pursuing the cheap mfers that will burn through 20GBs/month with stupid offers they will do fine. Go after Cricket's and Tracfone customer and you will do fine.

I don't know that Dish will have any sort of infrastructure set within 10 years to get into the "unlimited" game like the Big 3. If they were to bring back extremely cheap data buckets, they could do well for themselves. Take the Google Fi model and undercut them; charge an access fee for voice and text and then sell dirt-cheap data by the GB (or by the MB).

Once the network is solid, start going after premium subscribers by bundling Sling like At&t does with their TV service.

Not necessarily - if the block of spectrum in which the MB broadcasts is used on the macro network, problems will arise.

I can't imagine these boxes (with extremely limited range) creating enough interference to become a nuisance to the 5G network. In theory, they could continue to operate them like T-Mobile operates their current Cellspots.

Whether they do is another story. I think they phase these boxes out in favor of Cellspots due to the clash in airlinks. No more network backhaul for in-home cells.

So now the question is, for those with older “5G” that gets this device offer will need to switch over to a T-Mobile plan.

Anyone know why older n41 Sprint devices have to be swapped out? Is it because they rely on LTE for upload? From reading the half-assed written articles, it seems like T-Mobile is making NR a stand-alone airlink on their network moving forward.

That's the only thing I can think of as to why older 5G Sprint phones won't work anymore.

A second question is whether T-Mobile will offer any incentives for Sprint customers to stay, rather than jump to Verizon or AT&T?  And if they do offer incentives, when can we get them?

Why would they offer any incentives to Sprint users? They're not forcing you out of your plan, so you'll be paying the same price. The only thing that is going to change is coverage.

I doubt any incentives are offered outside of new phones (probably those awful Revvl phones) for those who don't have CCA/RRPP compliant phones (basically anyone who is rocking a Galaxy S5 or older).

Interesting how they're breaking out the statistics now between Sprint and T-Mobile.

It seems like he is cherry picking stats for the PR publicity.

I hope this doesn't result in a ban, but I'm actually genuinely curious as to what their "pornography" numbers look like during the virus outbreak? How has it affected their networks? How much data has been used? One of the more popular porn sites released their numbers by country and you could tell by the spike in their chart the day that country went into curfew 😁.

Mods. Please take this post down if y'all deem it inappropriate. But I only asked because...well, for science!

I will stay up until 12 EDT and see if anything changes on my phone.

T-Mobile operates on the Pacific Time Zone.

Having said that, I would be surprised if they open up the networks immediately for all users tonight or tomorrow. We'll probably have to wait some time u til after the official announcement. Either way, it's an end of an era. Good bye Sprint.

Looks like T-Mobile doesn't care about CPUC's ruling anymore, they've withdrawn the application to merge the wireline businesses in the state, stating that Sprint is now a 100% (largely unregulated) VoIP provider in the state.  The wireline transfer was the matter in front of CPUC for approval, they simply have to notify CPUC of the wireless transfer.

So I guess this is happening in the next few days then. All that is left is Tunney Act review, which will probably wrap up any moment now.

No, it's brand new out of the box.  I suppose I could try that... now that I've set everything up.

I'll see if Mike has any ideas first.

Same issue with me. Turned the phone on from the box and set every single app up. Unfortunately, site notes were not displaying after successfully importing everything. I never got to troubleshoot the issue entirely because the Android 10 update arrived first and fixed the issue for me.

Let us know if you find the issue or solution.

    Mike,

I just updated to the LG G8X and am trying to import my SCP log, and it's telling me it's imported successfully with the number of rows, but then the notes remain blank.  Any ideas?

EDIT:  This is very strange.  I named my home site and then tried to export.  Though the label appears in the software, it's not dumping out.  Attempting to then import my database again, now my note is gone.

I had a similar issue on my OnePlus after getting a replacement unit. I never figured out the issue because the Android 10 update fixed it. Have you tried resetting the phone? I only had the issue for a week, so I never attempted a hard reset.

Interesting.. if the timestamp is updating, that means SignalCheck is getting an update from the OS, and 3-10 seconds between updates is very normal. However, the information not changing when the timestamp changes is obviously an issue. If anyone experiencing this could submit a diagnostic report from within the app, I'd appreciate it -- want to see if it's limited to certain makes/models/builds. I am not able to replicate it with a Pixel 3 on AT&T or Pixel 4 on Sprint.

    I have the same issue.

Not sure if this will help you (since I'm a moron who has no business sniffing around app development), but the app seems to work fine if the CellMapper app is also running in the background on my OnePlus 6T running Android 10. Once I close it down, the time stamp refreshes every 3-10 seconds, but the signal info doesn't.

As I read yesterday (with sadness) about the (apparently) upcoming T-Mobile purchase of Sprint, I'm reminded how much I've enjoyed this site...and how useful it has been to me and my family...two decade Sprint customers.

Between Feb 15 and Feb 22...my wife and I will be in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

    Am I understanding things right...

For two dollars a day, I can use my Sprint iPhone 6s while in Mexico?!

In San Miguel de Allende, what kind of service can we expect? Great. Middling. Poor?

    Anything I should know?

    Thanks for reading.

I've been to the state of Guanajuato several times. I realize this post is late, but IMO Telcel is #1, At&t is #2, and then Movistar is moon-moon. Telcel has the best coverage in the region and the least amount of congestion. At&t took a poor Iusacell network and expanded rapidly, making them 2nd best. Movistar is piss poor and definitely awful. I don't think they even have LTE in San Miguel yet (or at least I couldn't roam on it last time I was there...only HSPA).

Anyways, how was your experience? Cellphone connectivity is very important now that crime has exploded. There's been carjackings and kidnappings in broad daylight in San Miguel de Allende. Last time I went down there, a severed head was left in a cooler along with a public message under a bridge. I definitely don't recommend anyone go to Guanajuato for leisure at this time. Just 30 miles south of San Miguel is the wild west of Mexican Cartels.

Is there any way of determining what a phone's RF performance is short of buying it?

Every phone reviewer I've seen doesn't care to review RF performance. And every blue moon when someone attempts to review RF performance, they do it completely wrong. I have just about given up looking for info myself since there is no way to say which phone is good and which is not. Even FCC data doesn't tell us much (the Note 2 proved that).

All I do now is just keep an eye out on forums to see if there are known signal issues on new phones. I've been pretty satisfied with OnePlus. Better than the iPhone series IMO.

It looks like my LG G7 from 2018 is compatible with T-Mobile's 4G bands, so I will keep using it.

    https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_g7_thinq-9115.php

If I want a 5G phone, it looks like the Galaxy S20 variants are the only ones that are compatible right now with both Sprint and T-Mobile's current 5G bands.

I believe the T-Mobile's OnePlus 7t Pro 5G McLaren and Note 10+ 5G support both n71 and n41. Not sure what carrier aggregation configuration they come with, though.
