  1. That's a tough question to answer. With a very mature wireless market here in the U.S., and considering Comcast would likely not target the IoT side of things as they are largely a consumer brand, one has to wonder where Comcast fits in. WiFi-first is an obvious good strategic move for them, but that's not a competitive differentiator, really. It's something that gives Comcast a leg up, but something that is likely of little value to the average consumer.

Especially given their already horrible reputation for poor customer service and high fees, I struggle to see where Comcast can make effective inroads into the U.S. wireless market. Say hello to the new GE.

  2. So the issues in Britain really don't affect anything here in the US (at least not yet). The fear that has been driving the multi-day selloff we've seen post-Brexit stems from concerns about contagion...i.e., Brexit may set off a "flight to safety" chain reaction in global markets. In other words, Brexit could be the first domino to fall for another 2008-style global recession...or not. No one really knows. So, outside of Britain, much of the price action in equities and bonds at this moment is fear driven and not really based on anything rational.

My gut tells me Brexit is a non-event when it's all said and done. Britain is really the European Japan in economic terms - particularly when you look at their native demographic trends and consider that Brexit likely means far less immigration into the nation. (After all, the chief motivating factor for the Brexit vote was to stop the flow of Middle Eastern immigrants.) Largely, Britain is growing more and more irrelevant in a global market where players like China, India, and Brazil are beginning to emerge as world leaders (and where geographical peers like Germany are much more relevant on a global basis). Britain hasn't truly been a dominant global player in either military or economic terms in many years now. I doubt that they will be again.

  3. To those who understand about finance and accounting, what do you think about this strategy:  softbank repurchases all of sprint's debts, right now they are trading about 80 to 85 cents on a dollar.  So if softbank offers to buy them at 90 cents on a dollar many bondholders will jump on that deal since they can easily make 5 to 10% on their investment.  The advantage for Sprint is 2 fold: they trim their net debt on books by about 2 billions and reduce interest expense by 200 to 300 millions yearly ( softbank can lend them at 6% rather than 7 to 11% they are paying right now).

Few reasons it won't work. Most importantly, it would jeopardize SoftBank's credit rating, which would put them in default on some of their own bonds.

  4. Absolutely! At least until I am ready to try another platform again. But cannot foresee myself replacing this with another Android phone. And I've already tried the S7e.

So I lied. The G5 is fantastic. The HTC 10 is even better.

  5. I'm curious about the alleged lack of GSM and WCDMA.  I travel in Canada a lot and this would really suck if true.

I'm with you. How can we verify whether or not it's true?

  6. Ugh! Thats too bad. Time to find another case.

Spigen has a wide range of fantastic cases for the HTC 10. I've used their cases for about 2 years now on a variety of devices (including my HTC 10) and have not had any issues. I love them!

  7. A bit off-topic, but not 100% sure where to put it. Does Sprint sell ANY Android phones that are less than 5" and not ancient? I know Boost has some but apparently you can't take a Boost phone to Sprint post-paid for some reason.

My wife thinks my S5 is too big and everything I saw at the Sprint store today was the same size or larger.

IPhone is 4.7". Not sure on the Android front, though....nothing comes to mind.

  8. So you like the phone yes? You talking like you're going to keep it right?

  9. Following up on my original post now that I've had a few full days with this phone. There's really nothing to hate. It's not obviously spectacular, but I think that's what I like. It's not as jumpy and glitchy as the S7 edge and the LG UX isn't half bad - it's really quite intuitive, and I'm finding I prefer to have no app drawer on Android anyway. From an ergonomics standpoint, the phone is easy to hold and use for long periods of time. Honestly, no complaints. I really may actually hang on to this one for some time.

TL;DR: The G5 simply gets out of your way and just works on an Apple-like level, something I can't say for the S7e or any other Android phone.

  10. Anyone know who manufactures the Slate 10" for Sprint? Somewhere I believe I've seen HP, but wasn't sure. Thinking of picking one up for media consumption during an upcoming trip. Just need a basic tablet.

  11. Lol how aggressive Sprint is being with advertising. I see them on TV, the sides of busses, and YouTube. Well done Sprint!

Agreed. They are doing a superb job of introducing their message to the marketplace and building awareness gradually over time. I think the message that Sprint is a completely different service that is worth a new look is really taking hold among consumers- and not just those oriented towards value.

  12. Just picked up a G5 today. Very impressed, so far. Early yet, but I can already say the UX is one of the best I've seen and this could easily become my favorite device. Pictures, reviews, and ads are not doing this one any justice. It mops the floor with the S7 edge.

You guys still enjoying your G5s?
