  1. saw this. What some should understand is that while this does give some improvement in itself it still does not go near as deep as the "official" Beats audio does. Official Beats is in the framework and also the kernel itself. If you flashed any of Chad's original kernels for the EVO3D you will understand that the amount in the kernel is a great deal in itself.

And currently if you read the thread there, there is a decent amount of skeptics to it even fully working with valid reasons...

ie freeza's post saying "...there's nothing to call upon any of those libs..."

regardless to get FULL Beats you need kernel side of it too.

I was going to post something on that. I've been reading through the thread and while the first 10 pages or so are full of positive comments and people saying that it didn't flash properly, it gets negative from there. Not sure if it is a placebo effect or what. I would imagine that if it was ACTUAL "beats audio" HTC would be all over it and it wouldn't make it 3 hours on XDA.

  2. And also I would add that we have crony capitalism. The corporate friends of whomever is in office gets their bureaucracy largely waived, getting an unfair advantage over their competitors. This is why AT&T is so indignant. AT&T (and its previous owner SBC) were huge friends of the Bush administration and received all the perks associated with that. They cannot now grasp why things are just not being handed to them.

And the Obama Administration has its friends now too who benefit. Like General Electric. The winners and losers just change with whomever is in charge. And some corporations find a way to ally themselves with all Administrations.

In a subverted capitalistic system like this, the self regulating system by consumers is indeed thwarted. And there is not an easy solution to keep wireless competitive in this type of environment,

Maybe the government will give Sprint a bailout???

  3. XDA Developer RockoDev (the same developer that ported Beats Audio to the Photon) has released a recovery flashable MOD that claims to work with all Android 2.3+ operating systems.

There were several threads with the MOD, but it seems to be consolidated to the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525226

This MOD is supposed to port Beats Audio and Xloud and give better sound performance to all devices.

Be careful if you are going to try this out. There are many comments about people soft-bricking their phones and being stuck in a boot loop, so make sure you backup prior to attempting it.

Also see XDA writeup about it http://www.xda-developers.com/android/beats-audio-now-available-on-any-gingerbread-rom/

  4. For those not familiar with the GT-i5510, this is a GSM slider phone that has a 600mHz single core Qualcomm MSM7227 processor, 512 MB of RAM and 512 MB of ROM. Not much different of a stat sheet than the Nexus One which had 1gHz single core Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon, 512 MB of RAM and 512 MB of ROM.

Owners of the first official Google phone, the Nexus One, will not be getting the upgrade [because] the hardware was simply too old to run the new operating system.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/google/8848669/Android-upgrade-for-Google-Nexus-S-in-weeks.html

There are already developers who have created unofficial ICS ports for the Nexus One, but it is surprising that a handset with less impressive hardware than the Samsung Moment can support ICS but Google leaves Nexus One owners out in the cold.

Check out the writeup about WillingMagic's CM9 port for the GT-i5510 at XDA http://www.xda-developers.com/android/ics-minimum-specs-tested-to-the-limit/

  5. I think it is a good idea. The only sticking point is that carriers usually save the best features for their bread and butter postpaid customers. They reap more profit from the postpaid customers, which is probably why they try to promote postpaid subscription over prepaid. Although prepaid is still a large part of sprint's business model, and they have given boost and virgin mobile a lot of premium services and LTE is less expensive to maintain than evdo. It's probably just a matter of time. We will see what Verizon does since they have a LTE head start

  6. Very well said, I was trying to think of an analogy with cars and all I could think of was driving a little death trap that had a top speed of 30. OK for around town but worthless on the open road.

The other thing is that unless you put a value on unlimited data, sprint is not much cheaper than the "two evils" and for some they are more expensive. They have stripped all the benefits that made them the "customer service carrier" now they are just another carrier offering sub par service to anyone who is not lucky enough to be in a wimax service area.

  7.

Not only that, they both are correct. These are not really conflicting thoughts. We cannot give too much power to ATT and Verizon or we all will suffer in a few years. And on the other hand, people have to make choices in wireless based on their needs. And Sprint is losing some good amounts of these customers in the short term.

Network Vision better be all the things its supposed to be. That's all I'm saying. It will allow us who want to continue to give a big middle finger to the duopoly a place to be.

  8. It's interesting that Google thinks that Amazon is the enemy and not Apple. I agree, a 10" Google tablet moderately cheaper than the iPad, I would be first in line, although a 7" is making me at least curious.

They both are. They don't get Android Marketplace revenue from iPad or Kindle Fire users. I guess the Kindle fire can be rooted and android marketplace added... For the most part all kindle fire revenue goes to amazon.

There is also the issue of developers jumping off the Android train and going to Kindle Fire and Windows Phone platforms to create apps. Google has to counteract that and become a player in the tablet market.
