Both the "bars" display and the signal strength you mention on the Status screen are actually based on the 1x signal, not the LTE signal. (At least on the LG8 version of the firmware.) The strength of that signal, based upon those levels, is strong.

The only place on the GS3 to get a signal strength reading for the LTE signal (calculated as RSRP) is on the hidden LTE Engineering screen. How are the LTE data speeds?

Where is this hidden engineering screen?

You can wait for your phone to receive it on its own. However, that may take awhile longer. I still haven't received it. Or you can follow the information in this post about how to force it manually: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/1097-samsung-galaxy-s-iii/page__view__findpost__p__37970

I received the update we were speaking of early this morning there are noticeable differences...I have 6 bars on 4G rather than the three I usually get in my bedroom (know that Doesnt mean anything just saying) the keyboard looks like it has a different color background that's all I've seen for now

  4. While I was waiting for my plane. I literally walked all the way across the airport and stayed 3g the entire time. Well, I decided to check my usage today and noticed I've used 22kb of 4g! Somewhere while my phone was in my pocket, it must've downloaded an email or something on 4g. I'm so sad that I didn't see it in action. I'll just have to wait until Jacksonville has lte.
