  1. Really? I'll have to check that out. Now if only Clearwire would report a profit tomorrow. I fear they are closer to financial meltdown than Sprint.

Sprint stock price had been hammered in run up to financials. And results were better than analyst estimates.

  2. Positive confirmation of the prepaid access to WiMax rumors. Glad to hear.

Hesse said they would get it sometime in the current quarter. Would have an announcement at a later date. So far nothing else really new on the call.

  3. Listening to financial call now. Highlights so far:

    • 7 consecutive of quarter of Sprint brand being "net port postive". More customers porting in a number from another carrier than porting out.
    • Prepaid brands (virgin mobile and boost) will get Wimax 4G.
    • 44% of iphone customers are new to sprint. Unlimited data was big factor in their decisions.

  4. Some of my investment research sites stated that Apple sold aprox 10 M iPhones in Q1. I added known #'s from VZ and AT&T - 10M= 2.5 M for Sprint. Based on after hours S trading they should report good numbers tomorrow AM.

    Michel

We have our answers. It was 1.5 million iphones sold for the quarter.

  6. If they do that with the Sprint CDMA/LTE version, I'm in!

    Robert

Sadly, with the way CDMA activation works I don't think you'll ever see it. That would require carrier involvement. With GSM, google can avoid the carrier entirely. If carriers use LTE sim cards like GSM sims maybe theirs hope for the future. But I don't know enough about how LTE sims work. Can you pop them out and put into other lte phones?

  7. Seems like Sprint sold 2.5M iPhone's last Qtr. (ATT 4.3M and VZ 3.2M )

We will find out in the AM.

If so that would be great with the NV upgrades !

Apple will release their earnings in a couple of minutes so we might be able to backdoor it. But how did you come up with 2.5?

wow, thats quite a few. Up from what? ...1.7ish last qtr?

1.8 milllion. See paragraph one of their earnings release from last qtr.

  8. In a move not unlike the Nexus One, Google plans to sell the GSM Galaxy Nexus straight to customers from their Google Play store. The $399 pricetag should guarantee some sales, but might be seen as a slap in the face to Verizon buyers who paid $300 on contract for the LTE version of the device.

    http://www.fiercewir...-399/2012-04-24

No plans about it. It's available now.

  9. I think its going to be a small upgrade, hopefully not, but after seeing the galaxy tab 2.... i think they're gonna follow apple with small upgrades..

Samsung can move pretty fast when it wants too and scrap its original designs. Remember last year when they first introduced the galaxy tab right before the ipad 2 came out? Samsung immediately went back to the drawing board to make the tab thinner and lighter than the original they showed off. Looks like they're doing that again, although not too such an extreme. The Tab 2 and Note 10.1 are being delayed to work in the quad-core exynos processors instead of the dual core ones that were orignally showed off. It wouldn't surprise me if a higher end tablet of some kind were introduced later too which has a higher resolution display.

  10. AT&T has released it's quarterly earnings now. Here are the highlights:

    • 5.5 million smartphones sold. 30% of which were LTE capable. AT&T now has 59.3% of its wireless customers on smartphones.
    • 61% of smartphone customers are now on tiered data plans compared to 38% a year ago. 70% have chosen higher tier plans.
    • 726,000 total net wireless adds. Churn of 1.1%. Postpaid net adds were 187,00.
    • Total revenues of $31.8 billion, $16.1 billion from wireless and $6.1 in wireless data revenues.

    Here's the press release: http://finance.yahoo...-112500083.html

If i'm reading the press release right AT&T is counting just under 104 million total wireless cutomers (postpaid, prepaid, devices, etc.). VZ still hasn't filed it's 10-Q so there's no comparison amount yet.

Didn't see this in the press release but gigaom picked it up. Of the 5.5 million smartphones ATT sold, 4.3 million were iphones.

    http://gigaom.com/apple/at-att-iphone-continues-to-boom/

    Sprint is up tomorrow.

  11. 1080P would be big overkill for a phone.

I don't see anybody complaining about the resolution of the ipad being overkill. Nobody will complain on a 4.8 inch super amoled hd plus display either. :)

  12. The days of the slide out keyboard are pretty much over. You may see a model or two come out but they'll generally be mid-range models. It's become a very niche market. Everybody wants thin and light, which doesn't seem possible with a physical keyboard. I bought my Epic 4G because it had the keyboard and I must say that I rarely use it. Using the onscreen kb is just faster.

  13. Check this article out for a more interesting tale of Boost and 4G phones.

    Source: http://www.phonenews...ters-end-20203/

This article states that the Boost version of the EVO Design will be offered with ICS from day one.

Mighty nice if it's true. If you're going to extend an older tech like wimax then put out phones with the latest version of android. The Design 4g has plenty of ram for it. Waiting to see what final price on a device like that is. Would make a nice option for people that want smartphone but don't want contract.

  14. How many Sprint LTE Markets will Sprint have by the end of this year until the complete cycle in 2014? Will it be less than AT&T and VZW, or about the same?

    According to the running list:

    http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/212-network-visionlte-deployment-running-list/

Sprint should have at least 47 markets up and running or in progress by the end of this year. And I believe sprint's stated that they will have NV rolled out to most of its existing footprint by the end of 2013. That means it'll still be smaller than Verizon. I don't know how it'll compare to ATT.

  15. Yea, specs are about in line with what everyone expects.

Rumor i'm interested in are the release date ones. Would be nice if samsung plans on releasing it that soon after the announcment.

I must say seeing that it might be "only" a 720p display is disppointing. I got excited from some earlier rumors which had the phone with a 1080p display. That would be amazing. Would think Samsung would want to push hardware boundaries knowing new iphone is only a few months away.

  16. The Technobuffalo article did mention that it read rumors from Pocketnow.com about how Sprint was rebranding Wimax phones onto the Virgin Mobile line. Below is a link to the EVO 3D being rebranded to Virgin Mobile as the Evo V 4G. This helps put some credence as to Sprint's 4G plans for prepaid carriers Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile.

    http://www.gottabemo...le-as-evo-v-4g/

Not just the Evo 3D, but it looks like the EVO Design 4g will be heading to boost mobile. I do like that the prepaid side is getting some much higher quality devices.
