  1. I wanted to start a separate thread to help track down an issue with my phone and likely others as well.  What is happening is I'm not always getting phone calls or able to make calls from my Sprint purchased Nexus 6.

Here is what I know so far in my week of having it. LTE is fine, voice works fine as long its set to 3G only, voice seems to be flaky when the phone is picking up Band 41 where no one can reach me by phone and I have to make at least three attempts for a outbound call.  The B41 is new info for me so I haven't been out to test much yet but will today.

So some of you guys that are in Spark deployed areas can you see if calls are an issue when connected? Try a few times if you can.  Also, I don't make a lot of calls or even get a lot so I may have never caught this if it wasn't for one of my persistent friends.  So what I'm saying is you may have an issue and not even know it.

  2. I'm not an expect on this matter so I'm going to ask because I have seen many of you write on the subjects of frequencies, radios, and blah blah blah.  I'm sure a bunch of us went thru the Nextel fiasco and when you look back at what some of the folks that worked there said about the failings it seemed to fall into 2 categories.  Culture and Technology.  If I am wrong please say so.  I'm hoping that the culture part can be worked out this time but from a technology stand point can someone explain what this will look like if this gets completed?  Is it just a matter of new phones with chips to take advantage of all frequencies on both networks? Is it just LTE frequencies the chips would use.  We're just speculating but this is what we do right?

  3. Ok, I know it was some time ago that Tampa International Airport showed as “in progress.”  However, the only progress I have seen on the main site, where all the other carriers are on the hotel near the old rotating restaurant, seems to have been all of the other carriers.  Then, a couple of weeks ago, after a long time of no activity, I started seeing folks on the roof working.  It has been hard to see what they have been working on as my vantage point has been lower and only seeing some movement and the door open for access to the roof.

Today however something occurred that you could not miss, that being a large crane quickly erected in the middle of the airport (hard to miss a large crane in the middle of the airport).  It went up quickly and in the end, some new cabinets were put in place on the roof, and old ones removed.  The crane was quickly taken down once they moved items from the ground up to the roof.

I didn’t see any cabinet activity when the other carriers did their upgrades and I am hoping that the cabinets that went into place are for Sprint.  I’ll keep an eye out, but folks have been commenting that they hope to see Sprint improvements at the airport and I’m hoping that what is going on right now is related to Sprint with the new cabinets installed there today.

I chuckle a little reading this post. Wild, this site is your white whale. It seems like you have been watching this site for at least 6 months. Glad to see is finally paid off

  4. Thanks guys so far I'm liking for the hardware. Still seeing the same issues with LTE performance though. I will get out with it some in some areas that were troublesome and see how it performs.

  5. So for all you former LTE users that went to the ONE what was your experience like between the two phones.  I'm thinking of picking up the ONE today but I'm a little gun shy because of the issues with the EVOs radio performance.  Can any of you reassure me that performance will be better from your experience?  Are you seeing any of the same problems carrying over like the hard hand offs, delays in connecting, or not picking up LTE at all.  I know I have a 14 day window but its my sons upgrade and I would rather not return the phone after switching numbers and then having to do that all over again.

  6. I hope this isn't the case. The coverage in St. Pete still has major holes. North east is brutal at best. Nothing down on 54 ane south. Downtown lte is still super slow. I don't want to be Mr. Negative, but sprint has to get the lte coverage a lot better.

I know what you mean I frequent all of those areas and for the most part its pretty bad.  Looks like there is still a site of 2 downtown St Pete that need to come on line and there is a giant coverage gap between 4th st and the Raymond James area.  What is it you are calling Northeast?

  7. Eh, why not? Don't know how many times I have been out for a run and a freak rainstorm spawns out of nowhere. Not that I ever plan on purposely introducing my phone to water, but I think that having a waterproof device would be pretty awesome. Just a little piece of mind.

I'll buy it if you're selling it

  8. In St. Pete, east of 275 and south of Gandy still has major holes in coverage. The lte in downtown is all but useless.

So true.. I will say that Old Southeast though has pretty good coverage now. Awhile back I had to actually tether my phone to someone to get service. Not the case now. I was gonna ask Robert about it but I believe there is an additional site that's going to be downtown St Pete

  9. So I have

    LTE

    RSRP -109dBm

    RSRQ -13dB

and my awesome LTE speeds are...

    1st try

    Ping - 173 ms

    DOWN - 347kbps

    UP - 31kbps

2nd try - Network communications issue

3rd try - Network communications issue

so it went from horrible 3G to just as bad LTE...

not only that but my battery in the Note is draining like someone pulled the plug out the bath tub.  I am currently getting 3 hrs out of a full battery and my phone is hot too touch. but only when I am in sable park.

Sounds like you are on the edge of coverage between 4G and 3G
