  1. Will you let us know if wifi calling works? When are you going on vacation? I have a feeling it will work within any CDMA area regardless of carrier.

I'll definitely post back after my vacation to let everyone know how well it works. I'm hoping for the best.

  2. I read that in order to use wifi calling, you need to have a CDMA signal. Does anyone know if a roaming signal satisfies that requirement? I seriously wish Sprint didn't require it. It would've been just as easy to limit the use to only US IP addresses.

I'm going on vacation soon to Robbinsville, NC and Sprint has roaming there (I believe through Verizon) but the cabin I'm staying in has wifi. This is the reason I'm asking.

  3. I just went by Shentel's headquarters in Edinburg and saw a sprint truck pulling a trailer with some sort of small tower structure on it and an Alcatel-Lucent truck and van parked with it. I snapped a picture. I'll try to post it up later when I get home. Hopefully that's a good sign of activity coming.

I'm thinking it may be a COW but I've never seen one in person. Maybe someone can chime in with an answer. Also, in the first pic, there is the smallest antenna I've ever seen on top of the Shentel building. I'm guessing they didn't want a huge antenna in historic "downtown" Edinburg.

Also, the "Sprint" truck in the picture is actually a Shentel truck. That's what they use for their wireless technicians to drive around in. I referenced it in another thread a while back. I see them every day around here.

  4. Thank you very much sir. I didn't know if that was indicating that B26 or B41 was rolling out over here. There hasn't been much info on Shentel's progress on the rollout if they have even made any.

I spoke with a Shentel wireless technician not terribly long ago who said the equipment was starting to come in for the band 26 and 41 upgrades. My guess is they will start in the more populated areas first but it's hard to say. I would love to have band 26 here due to living in a rural area. Band 41 would just be a bonus.

  5. I got this text msg from Sprint today:

"SprintFreeMsg: Your Visual Voicemail account is being upgraded. After 04/02, please call in to voicemail to record your new greeting and reset your passcode."

Anybody know why this is happening? Is it due to some sort of upgrade to the voicemail system?

  6. I live in a 1x800 area and I've noticed now that when I make or receive a phone call, it seems to be random whether it uses 800 or 1900. I know with my S3, it would scan 1900 first, then switch to 800 if the signal was weak. I live a few blocks from a tower so I would expect it would just use 1900 but even here it uses either seemingly random.

Does anyone know why the S4t does this? It's obviously not a problem, I'm just curious.

  7. From what I know or what I THINK I know about this, I would doubt that Shentel is installing any band 41 at that location. They spent a whole bunch of money last year and need to take a breather for awhile.  Plus, you are not in a high usage area where band 41 is really needed yet. Next year, I would expect to see Shentel start installing band 41, but even then, they most likely would start in their bigger cities where the demand is greatest.  Maybe I am wrong and you can surprise us all, but that is doubtful.

You don't have a location listed so I'll just say that Strasburg is a decent sized town for this area. It has about 6,000 residents and it's the largest town (by population) in Shentel's home county (Shenandoah). So, with that said, those are my arguments. I know other cities would be more likely, such as Harrisburg, Harrisonburg, Winchester, Martinsburg, etc, but we'll see what happens. You are probably right but dreams sometimes do come true, right? :)

  8. I saw a crane located next to a shentel sprint site in Strasburg, VA today. It was around 6pm so nobody was around but it makes me wonder what was going up. This is a sprint site and one other provider but I'm not exactly sure who. It's also on a water tower so it's possible it has nothing to do with cell phone equipment at all. I'm hoping it may be some band 41 activity but I guess we'll see at some point later on.

  9. I am going back to school to get a masters degree and the school I'm going to uses Microsoft Exchange email. I successfully set it up on my Galaxy S3 but when I set it up on my Note 8.0, the email program crashes every time. Does anybody know if there's an issue with Exchange and the Note's email app?

  10. My wife just got the update last night and it took her a few restarts and a battery pull to get it working right. She also has a Spigen flip case with the view window and she used to be able to answer her phone either by sliding across the window or by hitting the home button. After the update, she can no longer hit the home button to answer but the slide across the window still works. Interestingly, if she has the flip case open, she can answer the phone by hitting the home button, but not with the flip case closed. Any ideas? I think I may do a factory reset on it this weekend since she's gotten 2 updates since she's had the phone but other than that, not sure what else to try.
