So do you put 8billion towards sprints debt?
Or towards the network and try to get this densifying done faster?
Or invest in 600 spectrum?
Or try to buy one of these little guys?
Will be very interesting to see what son has in mind
Sprint is on track to save 1-3 billion in cost cutting and possibly get 8 bil from Dad, that's gotta make sprint stock go up with a 11bil swing... Or is that money to start making payments due soon?
The timing is suspicious...the softbank transaction was announced at same time 600 mhz auction gets underway.

I'm only kidding of course...

So it's gonna be a 5G "demonstration." My guess is that Sprint will have a large TV with a speed test page on it showing a static image of 1 terabyte per second.

What messaging app is that?Uh oh. My two month old phone is showing purple and green spots on the screen. No drops. No water ???? ????
Edit: Nvm it's whatsapp. I knew that.

I get that Sprint has to be more efficient given their past deployments. That said, I wonder if 3 billion is enough even if Sprint is being run more efficiently.
Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
That's likely. Maybe this is part of a clever ruse saying 3 billion then at the end of fiscal 2016 actually spending 6 billion, thereby fulfilling their newly created ethos of underpromising and overdelivering.
They did give themselves leeway stating that they could spend more if opportune.

The FCC has looked into this issue:
FCC moves forward with special access reforms, marking a win for T-Mobile and Sprint
That ruling is huge for Sprint (and T-mobile) and explains why Marcelo has been in DC so much as of late. It will only help Sprint return to profits, and at the same time, upgrade to fiber without having to pay exorbitant early term. fees.

So my parents are moving to northern NH...(dont ask me why 65 year olds would want to retire there). Coverage maps show no Sprint service but they have been looking at houses and said they had good data and voice coverage.
If they kept Sprint would they breach their contract with all the roaming?
Can I recommend US Cellular? They will be doing a lot of driving around NE and probably winter in SC or maybe FL.

I excited to see Gboard make it to android. It's gonna be sweet!

Watching some HGTv and saw a Scott's commercial for their lawn app. Lots of Sprint LTE shots - free advertising! Woo Hoo

Another site soon to get 2.5. Note the plans were submitted over 1 year ago on 4/20/15. It takes a long time in San Diego to get anything done.

Wow, I glanced through the pdf. 75 pages with multiple planning boards and recreation commissions. For 1 site!
No wonder sprint anticipates being stuck in permit hell for 2016

Life seems so easy when you look backwards.

Pittsburgh has a similar program within the city limits. It seems like it would be cheaper to co-locate/share the node with Verizon than build a monopole that will need conditional use permits and take 6-9 months to get approved, let alone build. The City of Los Angeles is installing hundreds of Philips SmartPoles throughout the city.
Supposedly any carrier can use them via Crown Castle.
I know the relay system is supposed to save on backhaul but I hope sprint is considering time to completion as a valuable variable too.
-
Carrier agnostic antennas seem to be the best solution but who would pay for them? Municipalities probably couldn't and I dont think the carriers are going to get together and launch a system where there isn't a competitive advantage.
-
The nTelos execs hinted at it coming in 2017 for both networks.
Hinted at what? Picocells?
As an aside, I wonder how much $3 billion buys in small cells with installation included.
-
There are wins that sprint had in prior testing then lost. I have to wonder if this very site is the reason for that. We have so much critical info on site placement and upgrade times that is essentially open to the public.Amount of First Place Overall Wins,
AT&T: 36
Sprint: 4
T-Mobile: 22
Verizon: 62
Thoughts?
A competitor just needs to pay a small amount here and has all the info they need to overbuild and steal any performance gains sprint obtained.
Maybe we are the reason sprint is behind after 3 and 1/2 years since starting NV 1.0
-
I think its a time based situation with construction approval.
Oh, so they will be paying for the work after it's been completed? Giving the time frame of FY2017 for payments assuming that work will be completed before then?

"more of the cash outlays related to network densification are expected to be incurred in fiscal year 2017." (Apr 2017 - Mar 2018)
This makes me sad too
-
WTF, 3x next year no good. This delay is not about technical problems, but lack of $$$ for additional backhaul.
Didn't Sprint change their financial calendar so 1Q actually means Sept to Dec 2016? or am I mistaken
-
Nice post grapkoski...Shentel is well run and has strong financials, I think Sprint should give them as much as they can handle! Central PA clear through Central VA...to start

Perhaps marcelo should fire Tarek and hire you!Tmobile has to go thru those things too!

I've seen those boxes around here. I believe they are amplifiers for fios.

Old news for this forum...old news for ppl who check in on Sprint every 3 months??
-
It's often a good idea to take a step back and think before reacting to anything. Words aren't the be all end all to communication and many other factors are at play before deciding whether something someone said was an attack, an error in words used, or just plain ignorance.
Marcelo did the right thing and took it down with an apology. Nothing more really needs to be said from Sprint or Marcelo.
