  1. Not necessarily. The capacity of one LTE carrier is equal to four EVDO carriers. And since there is probably only one or two EVDO carriers at the site in Alamogordo now, this will be an exponential amount of data capacity.

Additionally, I believe Alamogordo is just outside the IBEZ if memory serves and can receive a Band 26 LTE carrier too, doubling LTE capacity even further.

And if it is not enough, I believe the WiMax Protection Site is on a different tower. Sprint can convert that to NV and add even more capacity. And if Sprint adds Band 41 to this site, or both, the amount of capacity for a city the size of the Fat Cottonwood would be astronomical.

So it's not as bad as it may seem. One LTE carrier will likely provide fair to good service. And Sprint has lots of options to increase capacity further.

Thank you Robert. I knew I did not have the whole picture. I did not know sprint had the option to upgrade the WiMAX site. I hope they do. I think that they need one more site here if they want to keep good speeds in the future. We are outside the IBEZ. So I hope the 800 comes with or shortly after LTE. Will they need more hardware upgrades to do that?

  2. I just don't see it happening. I guess we can hope. What is interesting is that more and more I see towers have legacy removed.

They pulled the legacy cabinets about two weeks ago down here. Contractor told me they still need back haul and the AAV installed. Do not know what AAV stands for. I was hopeful f the back haul was close when CL marked all their lines near the tower (about 100 yards away) then remarked them about a month ago. Nothing has been done since.

  3. It may not be as bad as it sounds. Sprint has contracts for backhaul at all sites already. So there is a backhaul vendor assigned to that site. If you had access to the Sprint database, you would see that each site has an anticipated backhaul ready date. The backhaul vendors periodically update Sprint on their progress and those get updated in the master database. If the backhaul vendor has not provided a schedule date yet, it says N/A or TBD.

The "manager" you spoke to said what he said because in the schedule for that site it has no information. It says backhaul ready date as N/A or TBD. He is interpreting that to mean it is not even scheduled yet. And that may be true. But it is also possible that a date will pop in there only a week or a month before backhaul arrives. It also happens that backhaul is installed without a date ever being put in that field. It really comes down to the backhaul vendor.

N/A or TBD in the backhaul ready date field just really means that the backhaul vendor has not provided a date for the site. Not that work has not been scheduled for the site. They may be finishing up their plans or waiting for crews to become ready from another state before finishing up their schedules.

And one final thought. The one time I talked with a field crew manager and he showed me his schedule, it was almost 60 days old. Meaning he had not printed an updated schedule for along time and it was way out of date. It is possible also that the a site does have a scheduled date now, but did not the last time he received an updated printed copy for his sites.

I'm not trying to get your hopes up. I'm just trying to give you some more background info to give you a more complete picture.

You know he was talking about alarms with dates of November 2013. So I know the tech was working off old items. Not sure what the field manager was looking at. What does the AAV look like. At least when I see that I. I know they will be getting closer. Also hoping that once Albq. Gets lit up the rest of the state will fall in quick. I was figuring that Roswell and Hobbs would come online soon after Clovis since they are platou wireless also. That does not seem to be the case. Just kind of bummed that we are the land of mañana. Not blaming sprint just wish they had a bigger fire to lite under some *****.

  4. Service is really bad at the airport. I always get a full service and date, but its been at least a bar or two outside and a lot of no data connection. Also see it on coors and Eagle Rance.

It is real bad down here in Alamogordo, I was in Hobbs last week and the same thing. Very poor data connection and Constance drop in 1x signal strength. Hope they fix it soon we had reasonable data speeds before.

  5. So I'm new to the site. But while I was shopping for small Christmas presents at the Walgreens on Tramway/Indian School, I decided to do a quick speed test and got this on my iPhone. I knew upgrades were coming, because my service was interrupted, and I talked to Sprint customer service, and they said:

This outage is related Network vision which is going to complete on 12/17th. Once this get completed, you would be able to see LTE coverage there.

Obviously I know that's not going to happen, but my speeds are definitely changing. I've never seen speeds like this on 3G.

Sure wish our NV upgrade had shown improvements, off peek use to get over 1M download and peek would get around 200kb. Now can't even get a good data connection durning peek times. Hope it gets fixed soon. They guy who did the intergration said the fiber box has not been installed yet. So let's hope that is not far behind.
