  1. but why not today?

I find it difficult to shame the press 100% on this.

Depends where these guys are reviewing the service. What if they are in SF? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Sprint is pretty weak there. I'm in NJ. You wouldn't want to give a guy a review unit here especially if they are used to VZW. Just check out that one guy who reviews for Phonescoop. He's from North Jersey and I can't remember the last time he had something positive to say. To be fair you can't really blame him. Sprint fell behind and hasn't kept up here. It's better but that isn't enough anymore. Honestly though, some of these guys will never come around. It's part of who they are at this point.

  2. It gives them scale something Massa wants. It gives the wireless unit a fresh start with consumers. Even though sprint has been under a new owner for over a year, regular consumers assume is still the same old sprint.

Maybe they think it's the same old Sprint because things haven't changed enough to satisfy potential customers? I'm glad I'm seeing more LTE but I expect that from them. I also expect them to expand coverage but so far I don't see any of that around here. Maybe he should get Sprint straightened out before adding to his empire?

  3. Bottom line Sprint needs to buff up the network not only in the five boroughs, but the whole region, and eventually their whole footprint.

I hope Massa takes some of those Alibaba billions, get billions from the banks, and buy Vodafone. Then rename Sprint, Softbank mobile to Vodafone.

This will be Verizon ghost from the past come to hunt them. The Sprint brand is seriously damaged.

How would sinking billions in cash and debt into buying a foreign company help Sprints problems? It would just be another notch on his bedpost. And I don't think Verizon cares one bit what Sprint calls itself. Its not like the Vodafone name carries any weight here. Its unknown.

  4. the wait continues. From the forums it looks like it will be an additional 4 to 6 week wait. Looks likes the 128g space gray demand has caught Apple by surprise. Would be nice if the LTE is lit up soon here. that would be nice addition to when I get the phone.

Ugh, I was hoping they would be able to clear the backlog after a few weeks. I only ordered on 10/21 and haven't heard a peep. The chart from Sprint has changed some though with the Plus 64GB in silver and gold shipping immediately.

  5. Frankly though, I don't think Apple is in bed with wireless operators, but more like they control them, that's why there wasn't a WiMAX equipped iPhone.

Apple might not be in bed with carriers but they sure are cozy. The last thing they want is a free market in handsets so they are better off sticking close to carriers. Almost two thirds of their profit come from phones. They have a lot to lose. I remember reading the Q&A from an earnings call a few years ago and Cook was being asked about being able to compete in prepaid markets in parts of the world and he started saying how he thought the subsidy model was better for consumers and bragged about convincing some carriers to go that route.

There was no Wimax iPhone because there was really only one carrier using it at the time and it seemed obvious it wasn't going to be the standard.

  6. for example my area is surrounded by lte...but my house is in a 3g only area....so I have to wait until they deploy SMR lte

I'm not sure how much 800 will help in some areas where tower spacing seems to be the bigger issue. I still seem to drop calls in all the same areas even though the sites have been upgraded to 800 voice.

  7. hey is this thread dead lol ?

Pretty much!! There have been quite a few updates in the Central Jersey market over the last few weeks. What the market really needs though is expansion to cover new development as well as filling gaps. Unfortunately I don't see any of that so far. If I ever get my new iPhone from Sprint I'm hoping that it being tri band will help with coverage.

  8. Anyone else using the apple cases? I just picked up the leather one for my 6 and love it.

I had the leather one on my iPhone 5 for awhile. It is probably the best fitting case I ever had. The only problem is that it is not very durable at all. It was showing black wear marks after a week on one of them. I had it swapped out a couple times and eventually switched from the red one to the black. Hopefully the one for the new phones will be a little more durable.

Isn't that kind of juvenile though? And the comments on that story are beyond stupid.

I don't like the supposed data mining part of Current C but the core goal of that platform I completely understand. It's very expensive to accept credit cards for businesses both large and small. If you can cut those costs down you can become more competitive.

  10. When I ordered my iPhone last week the ship date was 4 to 6 weeks. I noticed Sprint applied the money I paid for the phone to my account so when I went to pay my bill the other day it says I owe nothing as the bill was paid from the credit. So now I'll owe a balance on the phone. Is this the way they normally do it?

  11. Still at $240 for iPhone 5? Not bad.

Yeah. I was happy with that. Apple offered $180 which wasn't too bad and Gazelle only wanted to give me $95! The only thing is the quote from Sprint says it's only good for 45 days and who knows when the phone will get here.

I ordered the 128/g space gray three weeks ago. Still no shipping notification yet. I was hoping the 4-6 weeks time frame was long quoted. Not looking that way now.

That's a little depressing. I was hoping the dates would move forward. I'm amazed the supply is still this constrained.

  12. Wow $649 off contract... :td: . Sheesh they really upped the price since the Nexus 5 at $349. I am curious to see what the device looks like in person but man is a 6 inch phone pretty big.

It's probably the size of the iPhone 6 Plus despite having a bigger display. Thicker though. I agree the prices are crazy. I think all these phones are overpriced but as long as people keep buying I don't see them dropping much.

  13. Customer Service remains Sprint's biggest issue....

Well it's certainly a hell of a lot better than when I signed up back in 2007. I had the service for a week and had to call in for something, maybe to port my number, and I was on hold for about 30 minutes before I hung up. I called back later that day and was on hold for 65 minutes before someone got to me!! I was doing work at my desk and just had it on speaker. At one point I thought about hanging up again but I just had to see how long it could go on for. And when they answered there was no apology whatsoever. To be honest it's a miracle the company made it through that period. I only had to call once since then and they answered in a matter of seconds and took care of the issue.

  14. While I like that Sprint is doing this at a fast break speed, I actually do not like the name. It makes it look like its only geared to Mexico. Why not call it America Connected and More Plan or Connected Americas & More plan since its basically quite a few countries in North, Central and South America.

    TS

I'm assuming it's because Mexico is the biggest country out of the bunch? Or maybe it's geared towards certain markets? Or maybe they couldn't think of anything better? Who knows.

Not sure how well it will work here in NJ to add subs. There are a ton of Guatemalans here but from what I can tell they already tend to use Sprint mostly through Boost.

  15. My store actually had a 6+ floor model....The phone felt unusually small, but big. I don't know how to describe it. The screen looked astounding. The iPhone 6's screen looks great, but the 6+ is noticeably better to a person like me. Unfortunately, they had 0 and I wasn't interested in a phone that big.

I thought the Plus was enormous but it's very thin. Really slippery as well. Can't imagine using that thing without a case. Almost everything is two handed on that thing.
