  1. I don't understand the need for 3 antennas per sector. Even in a high capacity situation only two antennas would be required.

2 of the antennas are for pcs and 1 for 2500. We have setups like that here in new Orleans. The 2 panel pcs setup is being called the "high capacity" project. Pretty much every other site here is going to that.

That's a Nokia build near where I live. Old stuff on the ground after the install. Snuck up and got some pics.

  2. To display and turn on AP Mode see the attached image for the section of code that you should comment out (the Green section of code).

I used Chrome's Developer Tools to do it.

The change doesn't persist outside of that page. If you navigate away from that page and return, it will load the page without the commented section and the AP Mode option won't be available.

    Any luck with bridge mode?

  3. I found these directions for installing aftermarket firmware like Merlin or TomatoUSB to a RT-AC66u:

    http://www.shadowandy.net/2013/10/upgrading-asus-rt-ac66u-tomatousb.htm

Seems you can put the router in Recovery Mode by holding the Reset pin for 30 seconds while powering up the router. Once the Power LED starts flashing, run the Asus Firmware Restoration tool on your computer connected to LAN1 over ethernet with DHCP enabled. After the flash, clear the NVRAM by holding the WPS button while powering up. Tada!

The directions are the same as installing unlicensed firmware to the T-mobile CellSpot (RT-AC68u):

    http://www.pocketables.com/2014/09/flash-firmware-t-mobile-cellspot-wifi-router.html

Who wants to try and report back?

I'm waiting on you to try ????

I flashed my T-Mobile cell spot like that but only after swapping to the ac68u firmware( I did the full firmware/software swap). I only have a Linux desktop now and a chromebook so I don't think I could even try to do it now.

  4. I doubt we'll see this in the USA. It seems mediatek is not all that interested in the USA market, they're killing it in Asia though.

  5. huh, i'm running mine in AP mode and didn't have to do any of that to get there. it asked me in the initial setup wizard which mode i wanted to run it in and i picked it from there. at the top of the screen it says what mode its in and you can click on that to get to the screen to change it.

That's in the initial wizard if you didn't do it from there its hidden. Also on your pic it shows only one mode, that because the others are hidden. There should be 3 other choices there. Media bridge, access point and repeater mode.

  6. Smart Connect didn't work well for me. It placed me on the same channel as neighbors which caused interference. I think it's the firmware, though. Some models have firmware that supports it, others don't.

I turned it off as well. I know in regular Asus firmware you can tweak the threshold levels. I turn it off and the 2.4 Band. I'm looking for performance and ac does just fine by itself.
